  1. Melky has slugging and OPS numbers nearly as high as the year he was on the juice with the Giants. He is going to want and will get a longterm contract for very big money, I would guess in the range of $14m per season. Do the Jays want to pay that kind of dough , or is the spectre of Vernon Wells still lingering?
  2. You seem to have a focus on next year, next year , next year. I'n done with that with the Jays. They have spent the money and need to produce results. Now.
  3. Post Of The Day. Thank you.
  4. Tampa wouldn';t trade Price to anybody in their division anyway.
  5. Actually I probably would trade Melky for Lester, since Melky is about to be both a free agent and headed for a massive raise from the current $8 million per.
  6. You can build or if you think you are close enough: you can go for it. Tigers made a move today too. With the Tigers getting Price, Oakland , Detroit and the Angels are the class of the AL. I would give up Cabrera if it gave me a legit shot at the playoffs, but the Jays need more than one great pitcher to win.
  7. If municipalities are offered a choice, I can guarantee that 100% of them will be milking this teat, and tout suite. The appeal to the province is that they can take the opportunity of new tax revenue at the municipal level to slash provincial kickbacks to those towns and cities. It will also mute the whine level briefly. But for citizens in general it is a punitive and pointless piece of shit.
  8. If you are interested in a discussion of both accidental and deliberate gene manipulation several thousand years ago, check out the book Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond. It's an excellent and informative read about how some human societies moved from hunting/gathering to agrarian, and the profound impact it had on the planet then and now.
  9. ahem. Note that- like I said- if you wanna be a contender you have to load up on pitching. Billy Beane knows.... The one game playoff for wildcard teams sucks.
  10. I find your latent fascism abhorrent. Your implication that Harper should do something : ditto. Not in my country.
  11. Gose had a great play last night that the commentators missed. I bet the coaches did not miss it. Sox player Bogaerts smashes the pitch off the center field wall. Rasmus misses the catch(no way he could have made it) and the ball bounces hard back into center field. Gose had hustled over and threw to second, and he kept the play to a double when it would normally be a triple. A small thing, but games often hinge on those plays. Cabrera also hustled over but he cannot match the footspeed of Gose. Good play all around.
  12. Holocaust, Schmolocaust!
  13. Yep, and the Russian people love him for it. He is doing pretty well so far.
  14. It's a ripoff money drug that politicians are addicted to, and apparently they have some citizens discussing the irrelevant details instead of discussing the substance of the tax itself. What proportion of BC sales are to Asian non-residents? Note of course that any future resale of that property by a non resident is subject to a 30% withholding tax while the persons file is reviewed by CRA. If it is simply Canadian residents buying the property, that opportunity is available to anybody and does not deserve to be taxed in any case as long as it is a prinicipal residence.
  15. I get a little puke in my mouth when I read this nasty crap. The right to speak your views freely and publicly is at the very heart of our lives and freedoms in this country. There have been plenty of Palestinian supporters doing that every day in many Canadian cities lately, and not a fucking peep from you on their absolute right to do that? Of course the JDL has every right to set up branches here, and do anything they please within the laws of Canada. If they, or anybody who disagrees with them, breaks the law then they have to answer for that. My expectation from the Harper govt is exactly the same as what they should be doing when Palestinians march and shout: nothing.
  16. IAnd in the meantime you delight in screwing the many multiples more Canadians who wish to relocate to BC, or anybody who sells to a family member, or in fact anybody at all who wants to purchase a home. Utterly stupid and regressive. I'm going out on a limb and guessing one of your several NDP govts thought that one through. I believe it's known as The Welcome To BC tax. It might be the first time you get screwed for nothing in BC, but it won't be the last.
  17. I count a total of TWENTY NINE national flags with crosses on them. Would you consider all of them to be Christian theocracies? Take your time in a review. Canada does not have a cross, but they do mention God in their anthem. Another theocracy? The UK has both a cross in the flag AND mentions God in the very title of their anthem. Do you fell they are on a par with Iran?
  18. Yeah the main reason anybody hits 9th is because they aren't very good at it. If Gose gets better, they could move him to leadoff, Reyes 2, Cabrera 3, JB 4th and EE 5th. Awesome.
  19. No, it is a democracy and by a huge margin the highest functioning one in the region. At least a couple of 'arab states' recognize Israel, namely Egypt and Jordan, both of them neighbours. There are also many Asian and African countries with mainly Muslim populations that recognize Israel. I think it is unlikely that the Israelis will put down there weapons and meekly die on command. Negotiations can start from that reality.
  20. The whole notion of land transfer taxes is utterly stupid. If municipalities and provinces need money, just raise municipal property or provincial income tax levels and deal with their fiscal issues honestly instead of stifling people from moving and distorting the value of homes. They add absolutely nothing to the transaction. By contrast, Alberta has no municipal taxation on sales of houses because they have nothing to do with the deal. The province charges a $65 minimum fee on a sale, which can run all the way up to a couple hundred bucks if it has multiple instruments to be registered. The only purpose of the fees is to operate the land titles system which is a provincial responsibility.
  21. The hypocrisy of shipping billions of dollars of coal out of BC to other countries while trumpeting a carbon tax locally is thrilling to watch.
  22. Gose does not need to hit for power or average, what he needs is a big OBP. Speed on the bases and a manager willing to use that speed will win close games on many nights. The best play last night was the hit and run with Reyes at the plate. Perfect. More of that!!!!
  23. Does that mean that all workers should be paid equally ? Are we not all humans who deserve the same degree of respect from the state?
  24. Your comments illustrate the inherent weakness of the bench. Gose is a marginal player, a speedster who does not really help the offence often. Not trying to be rude, but I wonder at his brainpower, he makes a lot of dumb mistakes in the field and on base. He might develop into a good player, but the Jays have an opportunity now, not 'next year'. Lind is a huge asset against righties, not good against lefties. The window to get anything for him in a trade has passed. Rasmus won't be here in a couple months, the Jays won't sign him and shouldn't. Strikes out way too much, average defensively.
  25. I thinkIIsrael reallizes it may come to that, and given their experience since about 1935 they are prudent in preparing. Armageddon is just around the corner for them every day.
