Just what the Jays need: another guy who cannot hit lefty pitching. Lind is an astonishing .069 this season against lefties.

Beer and Wine in the corner store? Yes or No
overthere replied to John Charlton's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Yes, huge win for consumers over the previous regime of nothing on the shelves, a few stores open whenever the collective agreement permitted it and a crew of vastly overpaid cashiers racking up big public pension liabilities. Like Ontario today. Most stores in AB carry similar selections of beer wine and spirits- whatever they sell the most of. But there are also stores that specialize in certain things- fine wine, good Scotch pr other fine spirits and my favorite- one nearby that carries around 600 kinds of beer. -

I already posted the hours for AB liquor stores: anywhere between 10 AM and 2 AM, 7 days a week in licensed retail stores. Now, back up your four silly claims and stop waffling. -
Beer and Wine in the corner store? Yes or No
overthere replied to John Charlton's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
That is certainly not true in the Alberta experience, the number of stocked items has gone from around 2500 in the public sector to nearly 20,000 in the private model. Big win for consumers. Of course, not everybody stocks everything. Like anything else, buyers learn where to buy what if they have special needs, or your neighbourhood shop will bring in something special if you like. Same as any other business really. -

Privatization has unquestionably worked extremely well in Alberta for consumers and taxpayers. Not so well for the coffers of The Alberta Union of Public Employees. -

You've made four claims regarding sale of booze. Back 'em up with anything other than your uninformed opinions. -
It's ridiculous to give away money to people that don't even speak English when there are dozens of ad agencies in Montreal that are starving for government cash. This would ever have happened when Chretien was in office.

all of that is invented and none of the governments business anyway. -
Well that was a statement game for both teams, with the Orioles supplying a spankfest on all levels. Hope the Jays can recover and at least be in the game.

Alberta liquor stores can be open anytime between 10 AM and 2 AM, 7 days a week. It pisses me off that they have those restrictions. edited to correct the time range -

There are already far more liquor stores than supermarkets, so your analogy does not fit. Like I said, nobody here would care either way. -
BC Indian chief paid over $900,000.
overthere replied to kimmy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They always reveal themselves. I wonder if any of these chiefs gave away $200 million secretly to needy Montreal ad agencies? Probably several of them, eh? -

Shrug. It doesn't matter in Alberta. There are already so many private liquor stores it would be hard for convenience stores to compete, but if they want to... who cares in the end? -
Was that quoted from the original Persian, or did you quote the Arabic translation?

Stroman was crushed early, so I don't know what you mean. The Jays would have had to score many runs just to get back into the game. Dickey had his usual mediocre outing. He does not fool many people any more.
-
I'd like to point out that hitting or lack of it does not matter when your pitchers: Dickey and Stroman both got bombed. The Jays would have needed 7 and 9 runs to win those games. which is an unreasonable expectation They deserved to lose all three that they did, and barely squeaked out a win in the first game. Reality check for sure.

BC Teachers Getting Screwed...Again
overthere replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
It is completely false premise that teachers negotiate as others do. Private sector unions and management base negotiations with two primary factors in mind: supply and demand of labour, and profitability of the business. The BCTF doesn't give a rats ass about either, nor do any public service unions. I don't blame them for that, despite the sham of pretending that they have some other motive than the exclusive benefit of their members in any negotiation. The public sector union buntosses have gotten a bit bitter in recent years because the govt occasionally shows a thin slice of spine, and the unions are shocked to this novel behaviour. -
"Houston, we have a problem..." A reality check for the Jays....

I say again, unless you are buying and selling the house as a principal residence the owner(foreign or not) will have to pay capital gains, income tax and GST on the transaction. In addition, if you are a non resident the sellers lawyer will be required to retain in trust 30% of the sale price until CRA approves the tax situation on the property. The LTT is paid by the buyer to the govt, not to the realtor or the seller. Any extra costs such as provincial or federal land taxes, CMHC fees, inspections appraisals etc are cash expenses borne by the buyer and all of them serve to limit the affordability of a home and the possibility of qualifying for a mortgage. Your entire post is mainly gibberish, BTW..

BC Indian chief paid over $900,000.
overthere replied to kimmy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let's not overreact to outliers like this guy getting big money. Most chiefs make modest, average salaries. -
It's a new rule intended to prevent those bonecrunching collisions at the plate. Catchers have their careers ended by getting blindside hits, they want to stop that.

BC Teachers Getting Screwed...Again
overthere replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Being paid slightly less than somebody with better negotiating skills than you is simply no justificiation whatsoever for a raise. Period. It does not mean you are underpaid. It just means other unions have beat you to the punch in using this bizarre metric. It's a shell game in which everybody takes a turn blubbering about being underpaid because somebody else gets more than you. How about assessing the work itself and determining if they are paid fairly? How about considering supply and demand for the skillset? Danger? Environmental factors? Consequnces of error? You know, all the real metrics in determining pay that are applied elsewhere.... None of this made up "I'm lower than somebody else " baloney. -
When you spend $132 million per year on players I don't think it is unreasonable to expect success.I have no patience left for losing, so I am glad to see them winning . Poor trading, bad drafting and dreadful player development got them in this predicament.
