  1. The US is not usually categorized as a dictatorship. Note yet again that oil in the pipeplines, trains, refineries etc does not belong to Canada. Or the US for that matter.
  2. Yep that tide of 'frivolous character assassination ' turned in a heartbeat for the two people suspended from caucus.
  3. RIP. He was hopeless at his last NHL coaching job, but still a great contribution to hockey overall.
  4. I think it hit $.90 at Costco today
  5. Didn't Phaneuf win the award for most overrated player in the league, as voted on by the players? I know he was loathed by his team mates in Calgary and in Red Deer as a junior.
  6. Call me crazy, but I am going to guess Alberta as the source of the money. Well, assuming we somehow figure out how to build a pipeline or two. FRance has long been touted as having the best system in the world, and they have both user fees and a way to reimburse low earners for them.
  7. And the Americans do reciprocate when they think of it. I believe it was in Pittsburgh where they played the Canadian national anthem before a recent hockey game, soon after the killings/Parliamentary dustup in Ottawa. It was notable because it was two American teams playing.
  8. Except ..... in Vancouver, when their utterly classless fans booed the US national anthem because they did not like the US junior team. And was it in Quebec where the fans threatened some US bantam (13-14 year old) kids on their bus?
  9. Harper has not revoked same sex marriage or changed abortion laws or cancelled universal health care. It is still the secret part of His Secret Agenda. He'd better hurry up, he'll run out of time soon.
  10. So when will there be charges laid? You're angry that despite a long and thorough investigation, and due process in an impartial system, the people you hate have not been implicated. Now you're angry and shooting blanks to vent. Enjoy. I imagine that if the Crown had serious concerns there were others involved, they would offer Sona a plea bargain instead of making him the first person ever imprisoned on this charge. Instead, he chose a 9 month jail sentence. Or, there was no evidence of a massive criminal conspiracy and he got a sentence halfway between what the Crown and defence wanted.... You pick 'em, and knock your boots off building a conspiracy theory.
  11. very good point.
  12. The US has most of the very best universities in the world, China has pretty much none of them. It is a lot easier to steal technology than invent it.
  13. Change the methods of indoctrination of children to remove the destructive and lifetime motive of guilt. Help the poor with their vast resources. Stop raping children. And so on. I look for motive, and it is is not founded in faith or fact- but in pragmatism. Understanding that is not the same as conceding anything, just an acknowledgement. There seems to be a belief- faith if you will- that the Catholic and other churches are benign entities. I don't see it that way. Their history is filled with unspeakable acts intended to gain and maintain control of peoples hearts, minds and resources. The New World was conquered, raped and slaughtered by Spanish warriors on a mission with Gods consent, a mission of control and subjugation. Everybody got their cut. I don't see that the mission has changed, though the tactics certainly have. It is no Inquisition today, but only because it would not be effective.
  14. And lately I hear that the whole subprime lending regime is back in force, banks are again issuing mortgages that CMHC or Genworth would laugh at here. There is still no national requirement to actually qualify for a mortgage. Here we go again. As for Obama, I get the impression that he is tired, dispirited and has lost interest. It's a miserable job and miserable life with it.
  15. UBS should also hold referendums on condemning Israel and serving only vegan food in the cafeteria.
  16. well, we didn't get the welfare mutts. They;d go hungry here. And those are the numbers related to jobs, so draw your own conclusions.
  17. Purolator also use Fed Ex and vice versa, and not just for international deliveries.. It is not uncommon for courier companies to carry each others parcels for some of the trip. Purolator union is the Teamsters. Canada Post has a few of their own, mostly CUPW and PSAC public sector unions. Canada Post has to be pretty careful with how they handle Purolator for a specific reason : NAFTA. Companies like FedEx and UPS and DHS watch the operations of both like hawks. If there is anything beyond an arms length relationship between CP and Purolator, there will be trouble.
  18. You're about 5 years early there. Afghanistan was a backward, dull, misogynist and extremely poor backwater until the Soviets got way too deep into their business in 1978 and it got much nastier starting in 1979.
  19. Yeah, it was The Rogue Bureaucrat, Chuck Guite that planned and executed the entire sinister plot. The luckiest thing that ever happened to Chretien was the absolute loyalty of his bagmen. It cost his party 10 years in the political wilderness, but kept him out of jail.
  20. too bad about Navarro. He would have been a good backup to Martin, good clutch hitter/pinch hitter/DH. And he would play 50 or 60 games at catcher. He's not that good defensively, but a great backup overall. I just don't see Melky playing in Toronto. He turned down $15 million in a qualifying offer and will get monster money, a set-for-life contract, offered by playoff contenders elsewhere. It was fun while it lasted. I don't see Jose Bautista staying past 2015, unless the Jays extend his contract. At $14 million in 2014 plus a club option at $14 million for 2016, he is a bargain in todays salary insanity. If they don't extend before this season starts or very soon after, they'll have to trade him as his value will drop. Given hsi age, 3 years at big bucks, maybe $18m or $20m would be fair. Bautista has said he'll stay to the end of his contract, but he won't. He can't. By the end of 2016 he'll be getting old and less valuable.
  21. 95.9 /liter here. 93.9 last week
  22. I don't know. It was still a bit creepy. She used to live with him in TO and went to all the games.
  23. I am not willing just yet to accept your assumption that 'she happened to be there at the same time'. And of course, we don't know who reported what .... so if you assume it was pure chance, I'm assuming that it was sexual harassment given the genders involved and the very strong and immiediate response by Trudeau. Is that fair?
  24. according to this poll, teachers are not reviled but do make the top five 'most trusted professions in Canada'. http://www.canada.com/news/Trust+greatest+pharmacists+doctors+soldiers+poll+says/5941671/story.html Teachers are the source of much of their own politicization. In my province, the Teachers Association tries to be both a union and an advocate for public education/professional standards/discipline. They really need to separate those two, for their own credibility. And teachers are paid a premium, or at the very least are well compenstaed for the whole package. Salaries here for an experienced primary school teacher with a Masters degree will hit $100k(plus excelent benefits) soon. Many of them work very hard, but is that unusual for a $100k income?
