  1. and... yet another quote completely devoid of facts of any sort related to the allegations
  2. Are you talking about Tory or Trudeau now?
  3. You missed the point entirely.
  4. I can just imagine Waldo interviewing candidates for a senior management job at WaldoCorp. "any experience at running a gigantic business. the 15th largest economy in the world?" "No, but my Dad failed at it once and I am committed to sending blankets to war zones, " "You're hired"
  5. That is pretty funny. Maybe I should open a John Deere ball cap franchise in Khartoum, I'll make a fortune disguising Dinkas a goold old boys from Estevan. But you have hit on the nub of a difference between Canada and the US. The American melting pot requires that everybody more or less leave it behind and become true blue Americans. I don't think many in Canada feel that way. We don't require anything of immigrants other than: get a job, pay taxes, obey the law. It's what we require from all citizens in the end, not just those who happen to have been born here.
  6. Ford should demand a recount.
  7. Agreed, and that screening for 'pluses' is already in place happens for the most immigrants, the majority who come here as economic migrants with verified education, language and skills. I don't see what an immigrant wear or does not wear as relevant in any way, before they arrive or after, as long as it complies with Canadian law. It does not matter for citizens, why should it matter for future citizens. This is what is required of immigrants: work, pay taxes, obey the law. That's it. Beyond that, it is simply bigoted arrogance to insist they look like you.
  8. So the long running sitcom that is Toronto civic politics has been renewed for four more years? Most excellent.
  9. If Gomeshi did something illegal, maybe you could link to the charges laid or convictions found or.... . CBC may have to use some hoickey revenue to pay off Gomeshi for wrongful dismissal. Oh wait there isn't any hockey revenue. No problem, taxpayers won't mind coughing up. The boxing match I'd like to see is Billy Bob Thornton vs Gomeshi, winner takes on Doug Ford in a cage match. World Class Entertainment , all the time, in Toronto.
  10. Then provide an example of how Terry David Mulligan has made us safer. Link Road to Avonlea to the Supreme Court. Assigning national policy and financial priorities in a coherent and logical manner is not cherry picking. Do you really put your entertainment ahead of public safety?
  11. Totally agree about lives getting destroyed, and you can count on that right now no matter what shakes out with Gomeshi. He is done. But yes, that is what happens every time in criminal proceedings in Canada. The victim does not prove the crime. The Crown does. And that is not the least bit insignificant, the difference is what makes us all safe and accountable, it too lies at the heart of rule of law. It means a poor person can feel safe in giving evidence against a rich person, knowing that the Crown takes the side of the law, not the side of gossip and money.
  12. There would certainly be no shortage of companies willing to deliver first class mail for much less in urban centers, or places normally accessible by couriers. In remote places, Canada Post does that though not everywhere. The least expensive solution might be for Canada Post to charge a reasonable levy for companies to licence their first class monopoly to the private sector wherever possible. then use those funds to subsidize deliveries to remote places. Keep in mind that the volume of mail to remote locations is very small compared to urban. 35k people in Yukon, 45k in NWT, 35 in Nunavut. Small change, the volume is relatively nothing. Note too that all three territories have preyty strong Internet connections, the volume of lettermail is decreasing there as it has in the South. Perhaps more so, the Internet has replaced the Sears catalogue.
  13. Ah, a wordsmith in the Trudeau CF-18 dickwagging mold. IMO, security of citizens is the very first priority of our government. Military, police, courts all serve to guarantee the rule of law that is the very foundation of our country. Without it, we have nothing. I see you equate that with having a few be served their entertainment by the many. RCMP funding vs. Rick Mercer. Gotcha.
  14. Again, there is no onus on the victim to prove anything in a criminal proceeding. The Crown proves it. If they feel there is insufficent evidence, they won't try to prove it. They do not consider gossip admissible in court. To date there is no criminal proceeding. There is a civil matter, but that is between Gomeshi and the CBC.
  15. I don't hate the CBC. I just do not want to pay for that form of entertainment for a few Canadians.
  16. Absolutely. Every neighbourhood has kids more than happy to take a maalbox key and walk a few feet to the community box for a few bucks. We don't need somebody from Canada Post involved beyond getting it to the community box.
  17. Nope. Nope, I place equal value on the rumours of their statements and that of Gomeshi. I see no facts yet. Oh, do you have a link to the womens statements? You clearly value them, where did you read their accounts?
  18. No evidence of criminal wrongdoing has been provided to or by anybody. I see we are in the usual rush to judgement.
  19. No, but common sense requires that there be criminal charges and a trial to establish that anybody has committed a crime.
  20. Ah no, our justice sytem does nothing of the sort. The way it works it that the Crown(not the victim) has to provide evidence to the court sufficiently convincing to get a verdict of guilty. At that point the accused becomes a rapist. Not before. The victim doesn't have to prove anything, though their testimony and physical evidence from their body may be important. An ex-girlfriend that was dumped claiming anything is in itself not evidence of anything. Would you prefer that it were?
  21. I'll wait until the criminal charges against him are dealt with. Oh wait, there aren't any. The hits just keep coming at CBC.
  22. Suzuki is deeply concerned about increasing our population, which puts pressure on land and resources and environment. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Mr Suzuki has produced 5(five) children. Forgive me while I laugh.
  23. I don't care if it's religious or not. I don't care because it is none of my business what people believe in, or what they do, as long as they obey the laws of Canada. There is absolutely no need for anybody to 'adopt my cultural practices'. It would be equally worthy for them to insist that I adopt theirs, since we are all EQUAL in Canada, and there are no degrees of equality. But they are not so arrogant to insist that..... Our culture is composed of many different elements, and they change with every face we welcome, every day. Equality is not something that is determined by where you're from or when you got here. End of.
  24. Yes, it can. But you singled out the US media, and I don't watch much US TV so it does not affect me. I'm sure I'm not alone in that. I do follow US print/Internet media more, and don't see much difference other than what you'd expect- each country presents from their national perspective.
  25. Thank you for your valuable contribution.
