The Carbon tax, now perhaps i'm way out to lunch but i thought it was a punitive tax for those that exceeded thier limits on polution....if so would it not make more sense to try and futher develope new tech and ideas to futher reduce our emmissions...or go into national projects such as cleaning up our air, or our waterways, landfills etc.etc...or updating other forms of tech and ideas that add to our polution such as outdated sewage treatment plants, etc etc.
-
Yes he does, but i think your missing his piont what is it that your doing right now to make changes, other than whinning or complaining ? Thats a pretty big sacrifice to ask a whole nation to accomplish, for a guy who's done little for his own principles. I think you should start a little smaller don't you....considering this sacrifice is new to you....
-
OH i think you hit a soft spot there Angus....but that would mean climbing down that BC pine, leaving the safety of thier arm chairs, not to mention that large baggy of musrooms......
-
Correct me if i'm wrong but is this tax not a punitive measure, for companys ,cities, etc that exceed thier quotas....if so why not throw all these funds into research and development, ....rather than giving this money back to cities and companys which should be paying a carbon tax in the first place.....
-
Angus i agree with you, But to be fair, every person in the CF is entitled to fair process. It is this process that we must defend, not the fact that Labbe was a waste of shin. It was during this process that Hillier, thought that Labbe was eligable for promotion but it was held back because of the Solimila incident....something he has been punished for already... What we do not know is what his performance reviews were like, to have even made it to the selection board means something, someone thought his performance deemed merit....but to hold him back to past mistakes, OK huge mistakes, but when do those mistakes become Paid in full....Alot of water has passed under the bridge since somolia and thier is alot we don't know about his performance after somolia.... I don't think Hillier was the type of person to hand out cash rewards to buddies, but rather a man who was correcting a wrong.

Your opinion, is flawed, "Freely elected" has nothing to do with being able to defend ones nation...Shit Canada has a freely elected government but it could not defend this nation without serious help from other nations....Hence why we decided to join NATO, and other defense pacts.... According to your own opinion that would make us a puppet of foreign powers....along with a very long list of other nations in the same situation... Once again you showing just how little you know about this subject, if you just took a few seconds to read the Afgan constitution you'd see they already have defined these rights, and they are protecting them...As for foreign meddling goes it seems that it only applies to NATO assistance, not to other muslim nations who fund and back radical terrorist groups operating again'st the government of Afganistan. I have not decided anything, that was our government that chose to offer a newly freely elected afgan government assistance....after they requested it...thats the key here.... OK one more time, The events of 9/11 pretty much sealed the fate of the Taliban government along with Bin Ladin and his merry band of thugs. NATO removed them from power, took control of the country, set up conditions so that the people of Afganistan could freely vote in thier next government to lead them....once done, and elections were over, they asked NATO to stay and assist with thier defence and the rebuilding.... SO it was the majority of Afgans ( meaning millions) that have decided they no longer wanted anything to do with the Taliban ( meaning a few thousand), And while you have this problem understanding that the country is under control of the Afgan government, and NOT NATO, it is the Afgan governmant that controls the entire mission there, and it is them that decided who is doing what...... Unless you can prove something else, you can provide a link right..... Yes, that is exactly what it means, your going to have to get over that fact, if everything could be worked out via the round table, a few pints of beer then there would be no need for militaries would there, and since every nation has one, guess we arn't very good at discussing things are we... Stop, i've explained this dozens of times, we promised nothing, we answered the Afgan government call for assistance. NATO is not pressing anyone into anything.....The Afganistan government is running the show, it is them that makes all the decisions, and they have decided what they want and they are ready for it.... .....You seem to have this picture already set out .....that some magical fairy comes along and grants you what ever wish you want "IF your ready"....that may work out in BC after a few mushrooms but that is not how the real world works.... WHY....I'll tell you why, because when this mission was in the start up phases the Majority of Canadians believed in it, supported it, could'nt wait to send our military over to Afganistan to kick some ass....It was our military that said "gear down", we are not ready for this type or size of commitment....our reply from our mnasters was "pack your bags"....so like good soldiers thats what we did....and thats what we are still doing....But now heres the twist....the mission is unpopular, and the majority don't support it, But our soldiers don't have that opition do they....we are still slogging in 50 plus degree heat, thru mountains and valleys lugging over 120 lbs on our backs....WHY is that, because Canadians are to fuking lazy to do anything about it, sure they sent us over there without blinking an eye....but don't have the energy to get us back.... My piont is The majority of Canadians asked us to do a job, they sent us to Afganistan, they waved the flags and banners as we left, then they forgot about us, Thats right FORGOT ABOUT US, we no longer are involved in a popular mission, so getting anything done is next to impossiable, and it does not matter what it is, new equipment, that saves lives...it does not matter, if it has anything to do with Afganistan it is dragged thru all the red tape....mean while our soldiers, are fighting and dying under our nations Banner, without the support of the majority of Canadians You don't think assisting a nation who has suffered 30 plus years of war, is a worthy undertaking.... You make it sound like i run this nation, i do know this that as a nation once you commit to something you complete it and see it thru to the end...you exhaust all opitions before throwing in the towl.....Problem with Canadians is they like to whine about thier problems, they just can't find the energy to solve them, or do anything about them.....let me ask you this what are you doing about saving our little girls and boys. Because every year each base gives hundreds of thousands of dollars to united way, blind childrens fund and many more groups out of our own pockets, as well as donating time and assistance to canadian groups in need....on top of all that the dozens of charities in Afgan..... That is when we are not surpressing them with brute military force.

Hey what about choppers, the AH-64D has got to be mentioned, and the new chinnoks CH-47F another awesome machine
-
Hillier ordered a review, and found that col Labbe's was entitled to his promotion in 2000, and it had been undully with held....The CDS was just making it right...

Your wrong, The freely elected government of Afganistan is making those choices and decisions. Not NATO, or the US, or any other part of the coalition. They make thier own policies and directives. That being said we are there to assist them in thier implementation. I don't know where your getting your info, but it is false, and misleading. As for them the Afgan people not being ready for more advanced rights your once again wrong, painting them out to be nothing but warlords and goat herders is also wrong. so your whole argument on we are forcing them into something they don't want or are not ready for is garbage....and really needs to be back with a source, or is it just opinion, one that has already been made firm without all the facts, clearly made evident by your lack of knowledge of Taliban crimes, and what life was like under thier rule. The Taliban are not defending the Afgans way of life, nor thier traditions and morals, they are fighting so they can impose thier own radical ideals on the majority. You keep spewing this dogma like it is true, perhaps you can educate me and the opthers by giving us a source that clearly shows that NATO and coalition forces are indeed using force to install anything foreign to them, except perhaps peace... Once again you missed the nail, The entire education of women and girls idea comes from thier own government, one that does have women serving in it.... who deem it to be a noble quality, one that would benifit the entire nation, "prior to the Taliban women and girls did have acess to education", so it is not a new concept some NATO soldier convince them to try.... NATO does not bribe the Afgan people with cash, or food, so we can report progress of anything, so the only incentive the father had was to ensure his daughter had an education, and perhaps a better chance of life.... Yes, it is convient to piont the finger at NATO and say "YOU"VE FAILED" in providing this girls safety, and techically you are right, and as a soldier i'm have to live with that every time i close my eyes, our battle group patrols the area the size of PEI, with just over 700 combat troops........ but wait theres more, Soldiers have continuely reported that there is not enough combat troops in our area, that we needed to boast "our" numbers drastically, along with long lists of other problems that need to be addressed to provide security....those reports have always been made public, so the majority of Canadians know about them, but because this mission can not be completed in the time it takes to go thru the drive thru at our favorite micky dees it has become very unpopular....making getting anything additional extremily hard.... So while i learn to live with my nightmares, perhaps the Canadian people can share in them, because as with me ,you've failed this little girl as well....

Not really, been on the worlds longest roller coaster ride , the herc ride from camp mirage into kanadar, flying fast and low very low , for most of the trip....takes all i got not to puke, can't let them airforce guys tell stories about the army guys.....
-
Since we can not handle militarily more than one mission at a time, then it makes that easy, same source we are getting our funds from now.... How does that fit in with basic human rights, because they live in an unproductive part of the world we forget about them, or do we continue to read about the thousands that die daily on the 4 th page of the news and go on about our lives...

I'm curious to know what you consider the legitamate justice process ?. and do you think they were followed in Afganistan ? As far as i know we are still in the process of making the bad guys stop.... You can't have it both ways , one minute you are telling me that we already have methods and laws with dealing with those that break inter national laws and basic human rights, and we have already discussed that........ Bullshit....there is a line in the sand....be it scrib in inter-national law, or basic human rights, or conventions....what ever everyone must meet these minimum laws, codes, what or face punsihment, be it sanction or what ever deemed by the world court or UN...In this case the UN auth the use of force to enforce those and many other mandates.....it's got nothing to do with you different from us, transform him.... Next minute your telling me we have to accept thier behavior , because it is ok to be different....That shooting a women in a soccer staduim is OK in Afganistan for going to school...., and i should be ok with that...except them for who they are....again bullshit...all your doing here is protecting those that commit the crimes....who is going to stand up for the victims....oh right according to you it has to be them....they have to decide enough is enough and stand up for themselfs.....them and only them....the problem with that train of thought, is i wonder if the germans would still be killing Jews if germany had'nt pissed the rest of the world off.....like i said before Fear is a powerful wpn, and in the wrong hands it can and will paralyze an entire population....to the piont it can not defend itself, without outside help.... Advanced enough to know the basic, knowing what is right and wrong such as playing polo with your enemies head is a bad thing....., cutting off little girls hands and killing her father before her for the crime of going to school....advanced enough to bring them into our century....advanced enough to give them alittle bit of what we have, no we don't have to make them like us, but there has to be change in order to move forward...

Jumping is a rush, but all i've down is army jumps out of a herc and a few helos not the same, all were static line....army jumping is different it's free at first it's later you pay, smashed knees and back....but i'd love to try free fall... As for the jet ride, not a chance of letting some airforce guy torture me until i puked....i don't care how fast they go....but i'll bet ejecting gives a whole new meaning to jumping....
-
here is one it's a model kit, just a quick find, there are other sites but most get the P-51 and P-52 mixed up. Notice how the cockpit is set way back....a quick search did not find any others. I'll keep looking... p-52

In a perfect world, some kung fu monk traveling the world could spread goodness, and enlightenment. But the Taliban understand one thing only it is brute force and violence, they have tied it all together with education and religion, they know nothing else...and will not change because they believe it is how god wants them to live... No i do get it, you chose to do nothing, and hope that it goes away, because it is not our bussiness nor do we have the right to step in and interfer....it does not effect us and therefore should be forgotten.... but not all of us are like you....we can not simply watch a crime again'st humanity go on, any more than we could watch a rape or murder happen in our niebourhood.... I bet you would change your mind in a heart beat if you seen for your own eyes the suffering these people face everyday. Hey don't like that link try the other one Wiki, or better yet just goggle it, taliban crimes, there are thousands of links from all sides pick one , just read it...go to the UN web site it also lists taliban crimes....what shocks me is you've made up your mind without seeing both sides of the story.... Your right it adds nothing, but i can not explain it to you, and do the topic justice....that and you've made up your mind already....i'd post pictures but most of them are to graphic, but you do need to do some research and some reading.... Let me ask you this question, in world war II in the polish ghetto's do you think the jews did not have enough, that they needed to be subjected to more inhuman treatment before they stood up on thier own and fought back....what about those thousands held in the concentration camps did they not get enough, according to you they did not, because they never had the courage or guts to stand up and fight for themselfs.... Or could it be that fear can be a powerful wpn, and when used ruthlessly it can and will be enough to surpress any will to fight back.... Now if this was Mother russia , i'd say you may have a piont, but come on we are Canadians, we are the good guys, and we don't send in our military forces any where without careful consideration. Bullshit.... and while the killing of bystanders is tragic, it is not the same act, is it....a police officer who kills a multi murder and rapist in the line of duty is not the same type of person nor is it the same type of act....to you killing is bad very bad and those that carry it out are bad. But let me tell you this every Canadian has the same blood on thier hands as our soldiers....no more , but no less....
-
And what did she say ? You do know that for a small fee, and a russian Visa, the Russian airforce will take you for a spin, in a bunch of thier aircraft...i believe they still have a web site up and running.... I'am not a big fan of the airforce, but before all the restrictions were put on our F-18's they used to put on a good show as well, seen a F-18 pilot fly the length of the runway at 50 km's an hour at full power, i know it's pretty slow but for a fighter it's a feat... nose up at about 60 degrees of angle impressive for a jet fighter,

I remember, it's the liberals that tend to forget...As far making things up as we go perhaps your right i'm sure the "how to rebuild a nation after 30 years of war" manual had yet to be written. and i'am sure it will be re written serveral times more...nobody said it qwas going to be quick and fast and easy....
-
Your right there is many countries that need help, or aid, and why we don't do more is beyond me, however left unchecked these countries will remain a breeding ground for those that have the might to force thier will on the defenceless. sticking our heads in the sand will accomplish nothing, just look at Africa, it has little to nothing to offer the world and most of it is in conflict, only because someone has not done anything... eventually it will reach our shores or effect our lives and we will have to react....to a much larger problem.

In a perfect world, some kung fu monk traveling the world could spread goodness, and enlightenment. But the Taliban understand one thing only it is brute force and violence, they have tied it all together with education and religion, they know nothing else...and will not change because they believe it is how god wants them to live... The UN and NGO's have tried the peaceful approach, and thier mission was closed downed by the taliban. NGO Relations with the United Nations and aid agencies Are you serious, you've cemented your opinion over this entire Afganistan issue and you have not seen any proof of any wrong doing by the taliban...you need to take your blinders off.... Read the link above under the section,Ethnic massacres and persecution, or try the ones below. taliban crimes. Your statement leaves me speachless, you've made it perfectly clear that you have lived a sheltered life, as most Canadians have, you have not experianced war or the effects of war(which is a good thing) except when it comes down to understanding "why" myself and other soldiers feel the way we do about this mission... Try to understand this, that like many others on this board i'am a military person, that has seen what a few bad people can do to an entire population. Couple this with Canadian values and morals and i can not stand by and watch as a few make life a nightmare for the many... And while i'm aware that the world is a diverse place to live, and not everyone has to share my values and morals there is a very clear line that man or women are not allow to cross, and in this case the Taliban and thier merry band of comrads have past that mark by a country mile.... Our country has decided that not only were our military forces to engage and destroy these few , but we were to assist the freely elected government in rebuilding what 30 years of war has taken away... And while i respect your chioce to stand by and watch, i don't think it gives you a right cast doubt on our actions unless they are unlawful, or go agains't Canadian values or morals. But you've yet to prove that it is one sided, we've had this discusion many times before, i've given you tones of links and examples that the majority of afgans do want us there...but you have failed to provide one link or example proving that NATO is in Afganistan again'st the peoples will. Maybe that is part of the problem, you have not experianced it, but rather content on the side lines...Help involving the military should set off alarm bells, and the people of Canada should have thought that thru before our military boarded aircraft....instead the majority of people decided to wave and cheer as we left..... As for dictators doing what they do just to be evil, perhaps not, but they did do it for power, and power and the quest for more does corupt...
-
And if we where over in Afgan planting our nations flag on top of thier highest peak, and beating our chest ,yelling to all those below i claim this country in the name of Canada ....i'd say you had a piont,..... but since we are not, but rather over assisting another nation in thier hour of need....you don't have a piont, other than the fact you don't like spending money on afganistan.
-
Can you imgine going to battle in a plane made of mostly canvass, or plywood....balls of steel.... of course you can't let the airforce guys know i said that....
-
I was watching that seris Dog fights, it seemed the P-51 excelled in rate of climb and dive, compared to the 109 and pilots used this to thier advantage. as for the the lack of guns,x 6 .50 cal was at the time alot of fire power, the cal actually does have alot of knock down power, considering each round is the size of your thumb, and can pentrate 1/2 steel plate with ease.... I think they did however regun the P-52 to carry some 20mm guns....
-
Disrespectful, come on, are you telling me that everything our government spends our tax dollars on has to be approved by all tax payers....I've yet to phone the police or fire depts for anything, does that mean i should be able to get those taxes back.....My health care is provided by the military , i pay into EI but can not collect it, do i get a rebate no, no, and no, we all pay taxes for the greater good of the majority it's how our nation works.... But as a nation with soooo much to offer, your saying we can not afford to spend a few dollars on assistance to a nation in need....thats not disrespectful, it's just selfish....I mean your government has not asked you for anything, other than the few dollars of your taxes owed to fund this mission....everything else is being paided for with the blood, sweat, and tears of other Canadians, those that do want to help.....And still you have your thong in a bunch, because some of your tax dollars are going to develope another country, and keeping with tradition, Canadians need something to whine about, and helping and assisting another nation is not in fashion this year.....
-
Those that have or are doing something to help... Actually i do, eyeball, soldiers pay taxes just like you....
