Your making some heavy assumptions that Combat soldiers are being prescribed mind altering narcotics....you are painting the picture that any of these drugs prescribed are leaving soldiers in a mindless drug induced stuper....These drugs come in many forms and strengths....And doctors are legally responsiable for these prescriptions if a soldier dies while in combat because hes whacked on some narcotic the chain of command is held responsiable....your making a mountain out of mole hill.... Your also making the assumption that all will be in combat of some sort or another....some never get to see the outside of the camp.... everyone shows thier support in different ways, i would'nt go as far as calling it mindless, i know i for one was impressed.....

I think we should be careful on what we call drugs ie taking a few asprins or taking a heavy anti depressent....i Don't think the military is going to send anyone on heavy medication into a Combat zone....where that individual's senses / skills will be impaired .... The above statement you clearly paint the picture that these people are incapable of coming to the conclusion by themselfs on who or what is forcing them from thier homes.....they already know....it is the Taliban...There are no western forces involved.....Had the Taliban not moved into the area, the Pakistan army would not been forced to eject them.... Read the history of the area....Most of the Swat valley, is in Taliban hands, under taliban rule, and the people will think what ever they are told....most of this area along other Pakistan border areas are heavily populated with Taliban and the control these areas with an iron fist....so much so that the Pakistan army signed a truce agreement with them.... Actually they are made up of 3 or more backgrounds or cultures, and it is controled by the Taliban which is a religious group, a way of life..... And for the average Pushtun all they want is peace....except those in the Pakistan border towns all they want is to fight and to brutally rule over Afghan...and perhaps Pakistan.... CBC CBC? vidio The video should be somewhere in the first link, the actual vid is over 10 mins long...what it shows you is Omar handling a Russian anti tank mines ( a self contained wpn) what that means is it comes complete ready to kill no wiring or assemble required just plant it and remove the safety....these are normally stacked, serveral mines place on top of each other to increase the blast and killing power of the mine..... Omar and his buddies where wiring them so they could be remote Detonated by cell phone or radio, so you don't have to run over them to make them work........hence all the wiring seen on the video... Also on the video you'll see omar and his merry band planting them at night....the same ones found by American EOD teams the next day.... Planting any explosives in afghan is a death sentence, deadly force with out warning is authorized under ISAF ROE....it is a very serious offense... I've been involved in serveral IED strikes, and seen up close the results, most ending up in comrads getting a trip home in a closed casket...i know it is all part of war, but bombers are are not shown much mercy.... I want to make something clear....i don't hate Omar, what i do hate his what him and his buddies stands for, thier ideals and the sorrow and pain they have brought Afghanis.... As for no power over his actions thats another cop out....he and his buddies could have left Afghan or at least the combat zone at any time....lets all wake up here he was 15 at the time....in Afghan he is considered an adult and all that comes with that....NO pwer over what he does....is bullshit does your 15 year old have any power over what he or she does.....do they know what is right and wrong.... He's a terrorist plain and simple, and nothing is going to change that....I do think he should have his day in court...and i do think he should answer for his crimes.....just like any other minor here in Canada charged with serious adult crimes.....there should be no freebees....and we should not be setting a presidence to give out freebees to anyone commiting a serious offence....
