  1. I guess you did not read your own link: Looks like the 'NDP staffers ' are liars, and thw writer of this article is a fool. Quelle surprise.
  2. I like my idea of just reducing MP salaries 15% across the board. I know the Opposition will support that fully.
  3. I do have to admit that a belief in 'calling' has a major personal advantage. If it turns out you were wrong and you hate what you do, or suck at what you do after committing everything to it, you can always blame God for blowing your assignment.
  4. 11 years as an MP, several as a Minister. Oh, and ypou don't ever ned to have a real job to be a political leader. Trudeau, Dion, etc etc etc never worked at much beyond lawyering, schoolteaching on occasion and speechifying. Moore already has more experience than the entire sum of the NDP Quebec caucus. Harper won't need a successor for a few years.
  5. There are plenty of white rhinos left, maybe PETA could just paint some of those. Nobody would know the difference except maybe the rhinos at sexy time. are you quite certain it was asleep? Maybe it was nailed to its perch.
  6. Tony Robbins definitely has a calling: fleecing the lost and gullible by telling them what to do,say and think. It is almost like a religion. The major difference is the taxable status of his assets vs His assets. Man created God, therefore any conceivable construct - including a calling- is entirely possible once you take that leap of faith.
  7. The answer is in the post above yours. The options are very limited without constitutional change. Assume away.
  8. I don't know what Ozone is, but I do know where it is: halfway between the N Zone and the P Zone.
  9. the OP and the article are both disingenuous at best and dishonest at worst. Representation by population is not mainly intended to address or maitain parity in provinces, it is intended to provide equal or nearly equal numbers of constituents in each riding. Realistically, Harper has two choices: either do nothing or do what he is planning. Good on him. If the Liberals want to do anything constructive financially, they should propose an across the board 15% pay cut to every MP. Problem solved.
  10. If that truck driver or hos wife had any class they would have offered that poor woman a bag of Doritos or can of Coke. She has obviously consumed a lot of cheeseburgers in her life and the blood sugar may be a bit low. Perhaps she is unaware that her Prius ruins on gas. Entirely. No gasoline, no move.
  11. I have no problem at all with CBC competing with the private sector.Of course, 'competition' implies a level playing field, so that means no subsidy at all. We could offer them a start by allowing the new corporation to have the buildings, equipment and real estate they currently have on favourable terms. They will also have to be freed from the shackles of their labour agreements, no private braodcaster could survive that anchor.
  12. Wow, where to start? Let us imagine that two TV networks are approaching the same advertiser for their business. #1 says: I'll put you on primetime for $50k per spot, even though my production costs demand that I charge $75k to break even. It is not a problem because I am backstopped to the tune of $1 billion plus annually and don't really have to account for much of it, citing 'privacy' and 'revealing proprietary business models'. #2 says I'll charge you $60k per primetime spot because my production costs are $50k per spot and I cannot afford to operate at a loss because I have no financial backstop. So of course CBC is #1, and they cost you twice: first because you have proudly backstopped that loss via taxes every year, and secondly because there is no incentive to keep costs low , reduce the $1 billion subsidy and actually do anything efficently. Even better, the country is filled with apologists for CBC, they rarely even have to defend their actions since so many others are eager to do it for them.
  13. On the other hand, CBC is an secure, lifetime tenured employment haven for thousands of substandard actors, producers, directors etc. What would they do without CBC? There are only so many positions in the private sector for talentless artists. Well, none really.
  14. where is the $8.2 billion required for this exspansion coming from?
  15. No. somebody is forcing me to pay for your entertainment. And don't call me dear, Shirley. Because security of citizens in all its forms: police, fire, military, judicial system, air traffic safety etc is the first priority of any government that adheres to the rule of law, and that definitely includes Canada. Of course, if you think that producing the Road to Avonlea fdor nobody to watch is more impportant than the RCMP or CSIS........ I doubt that is what will actually happen. Each Deputy Minsiter will be charged with a target, but in some cases we may see an expansion of staff, not a contraction. In the 90s when the Liberals laid off staff overall, they hired a whole whack of auditors and collections people at CRA. .If the purpose of the program is to increase govt revenue, I would not expect to see anything that would hinder that.
  16. To make vinyl portable, obviously. The same thing happened 30 years ago, when cassettes were popular.
  17. Agreed. The private sector can handle 99% of addressed mail at far less cost, and the other 1% we can subsidize, also at far less cost.
  18. Then post your receipt for the money you paid for your entertainment bill at CBC..I can only laugh at the doofus above who equates the police he never calls with the forced entertainment he places as a higher priority. Rick Mercer vs RCMP. Duh.
  19. and what benefit is provided every single one of us that pays the $1 billion per annum? Specifically and without any of the usual 'cultural bonding/national institution' bullshit.. I can tell you what I get for the $120 per annum I send to CKUA. Why would they do that? Their funding model works just fine, and has been amply demonstrated. Why wouldn't it work nationally. All it takes is all the mouths that claim to support CBC to step up and prove it. Nothing complicated there. They did have a rough patch in the transition from wholly govt support to where they are now, in large part to a corrupt board. But they are doing just fine now thank you, and will soon move into new digs. Thanks for asking. Very weak, worse than usual for you. National Parks have a legimate cultural and natural heritage to preserve, contained in a clear and concise mission statement. Not only that, unlike CBC they have significant user fees that apply only to those that enjoy their premises/services. Try again. No, I have to pay my taxes or go to jail. I have no choice in having to pay for your entertainment, and complete choice in paying or not paying for my entertianment CKUA. I hope you will be as supportive of the democratic process when the elected members of your elected government vote to leave you with a big hissing sound on the radio dial and an eternal ant race on Channel whatever on your TV. That would be much more fair, wouldn't you agree?
  20. tell it to Mexico, which by the way is losing all that Ontario production to China now. You can still emigrate from Onatario to AB to get work though, we have not closed the borders yet.
  21. That is not the point. What is the point is the funding model for CKUA, which by the way is the oldest public broadcaster in Canada. There is no reason CBC could not survive and thrive using that model. Well, no reason other than the utter selfishness of the supporters who insist that others pay for their entertainment. With CKUA, listeners fund their entertainment through donations. Yes, they often go on fundraising drives to fund their operations. The city or any other potential donor is under no obligation to fund any of it, unlike my obligation to fund CBC whether I like their brand of song and dance or not. Once again, you demonstrate your utter ignorance of the place where you reside.CKUA is an odd duck for lefties like you........It is funded directly by the same community that does not pay directly for the CBC. CKUA is a kick in the groin philosophically for CBC lovers.....because it is a healthy, interesting object lesson in how to successfully run public radio. At the same time, it caters heavily to the arts community that also would nominally support CBC..... Note that BBM no longer publishes stats on CKUA, I wonder why.
  22. That is a much broader subject than that at hand. I also challege the implcation that the manufacturing sector was somehow sacrificed as some sort of plan to bring resource extraction to the fore. Ontario lost its factories because they were not competitive with a few other sources. The US decision Keystone decision will affect the fortunes of the whole country, not just Alberta. That is not all bad, as the federal govt will now be obliged to review export priorities. It is puzzling why Obama went this route, it will mean the loss of thousands of US jobs and ongoing dependence on suppliers like Venezuela, Saudi, Iran Iraq, Libya. Oh well, let us move on then.
  23. Only 30,000 at the Esks-Stamps game on Sunday. It was a windy, miserable day but still...... that is low for a stadium that seats nearly 60K, the first home playeoff game in several years too. I expect BC to crush the Esks next weekend, Ricky Ray is not mobile and the O line is weak weak weak.
  24. That is a lot of money. Who is paying for improved tranist in Toronto?
  25. ?? I'm saying that when the oil does not move, Alberta suffers. When Alberta suffers, you suffer. Of course, you had not considered that. Perhaps you should assume less money in equalization gravy round about 2015-2016.
