and the cuts begin....Federal workers
fellowtraveller replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They could move a few of the federal skilled workers into Canadian Revenue Agency, put them to work ona quota basis collecting unpaid taxes. A chop of about 30,000 workers would help. That would likely put PSAC into kneejerk strike mode, which could save a couple billion in the next fiscal year without further chops. Works for me. -
First Nations ban pipelines to west coast
fellowtraveller replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Now you are being silly. The First Nations can form whatever groups and alliances are permitted under Canadian law, and express their opinion, but they do not control the BC or any coast in spite of any proclamations. Canada and BC have not ceded any territory either. -
First Nations ban pipelines to west coast
fellowtraveller replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Gee might it be because many BC First Nations don't have old treaties, new treaties or any treaties and never did?Duh. And of course many bans without treaties have taken decades to arrive at no agreements. In the meantime, the millions roll in. After the treaty, not so much. Duh. It's business. -
First Nations ban pipelines to west coast
fellowtraveller replied to jacee's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Correct. They can just run it down the highway or railway right of ways to the West coast, either Kitimat or Prince Rupert , Both go all the way and require nothing in the way of First Nations agreement. It will cost about 20% more, but that money is recouped quickly by not sharing profits with First Nations. Oh well, their choice. They should consult their brothers in the NWT Mackenzie Valley who have watched their opportunity at jobs and development disappear. Oh well, their choice. -

Pipelines are horribly dangerous. Ontario has tons of them filled with filthy Western Oil and gas, and look at all the spills and cities that have burned to the ground there. Not safe. Anyway, I suspect that FNs will be able to do f**k-all about Kinder Morgan since the right of way is already established. They just expanded this line through Jasper National Park a few years ago. Of course, it means doubling, tripling, quadrupling the number of tankers at Twassassen and in the Starits of Juan de Fuca. Much better than a quiet deep water port at Kitimat or Prince Rupert....... -
and steadily shrinking. The GTA/Southern Ontario is looking increasingly crowded, expensive and workshy.Do your homework and report back. No need for you to grovel, just go to your provincial leaders and tell them plainly: Albertas oild and Alberta money is tainted, corrupt dirty and we refuse to take any more of it. Period. Otherwise, STFU and enjoy the handout while recognizing how and where it ended up funding your life.

You're living in the past, a popular pastime in historic Ontario. Check the latest immigration stats, fewer people all the time are choosing the Center of the Universe. They can see what you cannot.Didn't GM just announce that extra production of the very popular Equinox won't be done in Canada but in the southern US, at about 1/2 the labour cost? Any spidey-sense feeling of impending doom ?

Did Ovechkin get Boudreau fired?
fellowtraveller replied to olp1fan's topic in Travel, Leisure and Sports
I'll go with actual facts, not opinions. I guess you didn't see the Blackhawks Stanley Cup win a couple years ago, where Kane was a big part on both defence and offence. You simply cannot win Cups unless everybody contributes, and Kane certainly did- both ways. You can win a game of two crusing, but no way can you win four series. Perhaps you were washing your hair or having a nap during the Vancouver Olympics, where the US team cam within a whisker of winning gold, and again Kane was flying- in both ends of the ice. -

Except for the age of consent, that is already how it is today in your province of AB. Age of cosnet was raised from 14 to 16 by the fascist child and kitten hating Harperites.Another biggie is the age of contract which is 18 in Canada. -
Did Ovechkin get Boudreau fired?

OV does not see himself as being in their class of players, and he is right. he is better if he wants to be. Ovechkin has a whole dimension of meanness and physiclaity to his game that those guys only dream of. Rubbish. When he is told to check by Quenneville, he checks like a demon. Ask Vancouver how that went for them a couple years ago. -
And one by one all every one of those car factories in Ontario are going to close as production all moves back to US plants. You can then pat your unemployed neighbours on the back and repeat your little tale of quality. They'll love you for it. Maybe they can all get jobs building wind turbines at inflated prices to sell to themselves so they can be operated to produce hydro that the same unemployed can pay for at 10 times the going rate. It's a brave new world waiting for you. It's going to be magical.

Did Ovechkin get Boudreau fired?

The only conceivable way that OV gets traded is if the owner goes broke. Hunter should be showing OV clips of Crosby, Sakic, Gretzky, Lemieux and even Jagr- all great offensive talents that learned to backcheck when they had to.......it would appeal to his ego and might get him working. -
Did Ovechkin get Boudreau fired?

No, OV did not get him fired. Losing games in the regular season is what got him fired. The Caps have had a history of monster regular seasons followed by crappy playoffs. Boudreaua acted to change their style so as to to have some comprehension of defensive play prior to the playoffs. result this season: the Caps play poorly in the regular season too. Goodbye Bourgreau, the Caps cannot trade or fire their players, so Boudreau gets the chop. Last chance for George McPhee too- if Hunter does not work out McPhee will be gone. It is quite possible Hunter will successfully do exactly the same things with the team that Boudreaua did this year. Often the players know the onus is on them to perform in a way that wins, that the team has plenty of skill and now needs more will. Washington is still a Cup contender. -
Lies and more lies from the Tories
fellowtraveller replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Amateur violence..... A 6X6 is too large for human hands to wield effectively, even a 4x4 is awkwardly square and too large. 2x4 is getting a bit flimsy, especially the typical softwood spruce variety. For commonly available construction site mayhem, try a three foot length of 3/4 " rebar. hth -
Really? Can you name a Reform govt anywhere in Canada? And what would you call a 'tradition'. are you thinking of Refrom which lasted all of about a decade?Check the demographics of Alberta and I think you'll find them no different than anywhere else, other than higher average household income. Most of the people in Alberta now are from somewhere else........ Are you suggetsing redneckism is geographical, that the couple million Alberta immigrants caught some kind of redneck virus? Wow, you really are completely devoid of any friskiness of spirit. How does that feel day to day?

I am starting to agree that all Canadians outside Alberta are tainted by the countless billions in oil/energy money they have received and continue to receive. It is dirty and ugly money, all of it, stained with the blood of noble dinosaurs The corrupt support paid back to the monstwers in AB is a crime against humanity, a stain on our dignity. Let us end this fiasco for both sides, now. Let the govt of Canada send nothing at all, not a single penny, to the horror show in AB. And in turn, let not Alberta taint the nation with another penny of resource revenue in any form leaving the province. There is plenty of oil in America and the Middle East for the people of Central Canada, they don't need to put up with this nonsense any more. Everybody is happy now.

Wind Turbines are a bust!
fellowtraveller replied to Wild Bill's topic in Health, Science and Technology
This sounds like a wonderful opportunity for Ontario: take over unproductive windfarms. "Utility companies of the World: Queens Park wants your rusted, your collapsed, your becalmed.... and we will pay 10 times the market rate for every volt." -
UK secretly helping Canada (Harper) with oil sands
fellowtraveller replied to Topaz's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Of course the EU has carefully not offended any of their own suppliers like North Sea oil, Norway or any of the Arab states- all of whom produce conventional oil. I wonder if the EU will boycott all North Sea oil too, knowing that a big ofshore spill there would be devastating for numerous EU states? Fat f***king chance.
