  1. No, it isn't there. Had it been there, I would have no need to ask.
  2. Is there libertarian reading, math, science, history, art, and music?
  3. There is nothing for me to discuss with you; you obviously chose to ignore my request for specifics. I will try again, what are they teaching that is so appaling?
  4. Why do you assume I am an atheist?
  5. It depends upon whose morals we chose to model our lives after. I think we would have a better world if people did not judge another person’s values or morals by their own; Jesus says this is how we will be judged ….."Come, enter the Kingdom. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was sick and you visited me." Then Jesus will turn to those on His left hand and say, "Depart from me because I was hungry and you did not feed me, I was thirsty and you did not give me to drink, I was sick and you did not visit me." These will ask Him, "When did we see You hungry, or thirsty or sick and did not come to Your help?" And Jesus will answer them, "Whatever you neglected to do unto one of these least of these, you neglected to do unto Me!"
  6. It this complaint was only the second one every lodged by a government communication director against CBC, I think that speaks of remarkable fair and ethical journalism by CBC.
  7. The examples given are not Joe the Plumbers but our congressional and religious leaders... the 'do as I say' moralists.
  8. Suicide bombings weren’t asked to be explained away, only mass beheadings.
  9. Mass beheadings are not mutually exclusive to a religion or a country as seemed to be indicated by you…sorry you can’t see that point.
  10. Do not forget our most outspoken anti-gay Christian ministers who only contracted for massages or the other who just needed someone to handle his luggage.
  11. Since you have children in school perhaps you could be more specfic rather than using generalities. Thanks, I would be interested to see what is being taught in Canadian schools.
  12. Google mass beheadings and guess what country pops up...Mexico
  13. Doesn’t seem to be any Mozart aficionados here; his piano concerto #21 always soothes me. Definitely coconut cream
  14. Sarah Palin instantly comes to mind She has mastered victimhood for political purposes.
  15. Any Fox News watchers viewing this topic should be aware of a “mistake” made by FOX news regarding the situation in Wisconsin. The correct poll numbers show that 61% of the public would oppose a law removing collective bargaining compared with 33% who would favor such a law. Fox reversed those numbers gotta watch the news you get from Fox. http://mediamatters.org/research/201102230006
  16. And this is the paragraph that preceded the quote. It is very clear that he was opposed to public unions striking but not to public unions organizing.
  17. I completely agree with FDR. The quote was out of context; here is the letter, read it for yourself. http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=15445
  18. Not all Americans, I can introduce you to many who recognize why our country is criticized and, in many cases, we are likely to concur. Not all Americans are of the mind-set that America can do no wrong or the old adage American, love it or leave it or the Bushism, you are either with us or against us.
  19. I have to be amused when people criticize those who occasionally resort to name-calling and using words like moron, dimbulb, halfwit; at least they are not hiding behind clichés or innuendos. Some posters cloak their insults through what they think is subtly but most people see through that approach. The advantages are numerous though, it is not against the rules, the moderators cannot warn or ban for this cleverly disguised method of insulting a poster. Some moderators do wise up to this method especially when these posters are always the one crying wolf.
  20. Some here say the people of Wisconsin were aware of Walker’s plan to address the unions; that he campaigned on it and had the support of the public. The problem I have with that argument is that I can find nothing in his platform that addressed that issue. Here are 50 of his promises judged to be the basis of his campaign and ultimate election. http://politifact.com/wisconsin/article/2011/jan/01/look-scott-walkers-campaign-promises/
  21. I believe if you read further on FDR, Shady, you would see that he was not opposed to public sector unions but he did not think they should have the right to strike.
  22. Thank you for a bit of history that cofirms what I was told; I agree about the status update.
  23. I read something in this forum, I believe it was from Shady but not certain, speaking of the 6 figure income of the public union employees in Wisconsin. There was no link to support that figure but this indicates that the 6 figure income achieved by public sector employees pales when compared to private sector employees with the same level of education. For the record, the EPI is a pro labor group. http://www.epi.org/economic_snapshots/entry/wisconsin_public_servants_already_face_a_compensation_penalty/
  24. This is a point that I have not heard mentioned, but possibly I missed in all of these pages of back and forths breaking little new ground. The quality of Wisconsins K-12 educations is highly rated; if we blame the teachers for our schools failures we should also reward them for their successes. Gov. Walkers desired goal is to break the teachers union by taking away their right of collective bargaining. There are five states that do not allow collective bargaining and their ranking on SAT scores is as follows; the second number is their high school graduation rate. South Carolina, 49th 66% Georgia, 48th 56% Texas, 45th 65% North Carolina, 38th 63% Virginia, 34th 69th Wisconsin, with its collective bargaining for teachers, ranks 3rd in nation in SAT scores and graduates 82% of its students. http://www.commonwealthfoundation.org/policyblog/detail/2010-sat-scores-by-state http://www.all4ed.org/publication_material/understanding_HSgradrates
  25. MLF came very highly recommended to me and one of the points in its favor was the variety of views and the quality of the administration and their willingness to allow a topic to be fully explored without over moderating, even when the discussion becomes a bit heated…that’s politics. I have seen nothing here that contradicts the recommendation. From my brief time here, it seems that the conservatives on this forum are a bit thin skinned but possibly that is because of the topics that I am involved with.
