When i was writting, i tought about putting (ressource)or(trade value) but i tought it was clear enough, well i was wrong Its simple, democracy mean power to the people. if the power concentrate into the hands of an elite, then we dont have a democracy, we just have a failed system. i dont think the state is naturally good and i dont think inviduals are naturally good. The state is controled by a government wich is composed of individuals anyway. Just take the time and inform yourself about who are controlling usa right now and you will see, "conflit d'intérêt" in big letter.

I disagree, the economy is really complex and sometime we have to act to make it work better. Since a few century, we build democracy in occident by giving more power to the people. Here is my theory: "Power = Money" We have to be very carefull because whatever we may think, a free market is not neccesary a democratic market. Its great if a company is sucessfull and makes lots of money. Its great but more money = more power and too much power can easily be a threat to democracy. How ? when you have more power, you can easyer corrupt the politician , you can crush the business enemy with illegal act and etc.. I think its very dangerous when a country get take over by weapon industry, oil industry and etc... why ? they manipulate the people for business purpose. So, if we don't act, we are going back to what we had before... unelected people controlling us. Thats why we have to be carefull. Having a minimum salary cap is a security patch to keep the unqualified job to become more monopolistic. Its alot easyer for company to compete if their employe have a similar salary. The minimum salary cap does not make a society poorer or richer, the only thing it affect is the distribution of that money. A good salary cap force the the market to give more to the poorer, and i rather give more money to someone poor even if he doesnt deserve it if it can help to divide the power. But there is another question, how much should the salary cap be ? its hard to say, not too low and not too high. Because if its too low it wont be effective and if its too high, the market will adapt by changing the value of money to lower the cap.

Thats not the point, they make billions even with low price, 600 millions less wouldn't make it unprofitable. And i don't understand, if you want to make electricity, it cost something, its not less profitable because its in the labrador. There still have to pay employes and the equipment. Maybe they have a good deal but their is no way they make more profit than with the baie james. They brings lots of good quality jobs. They pay well, the price can be controled, they give billions to the government. Its not a perfect system but its far better than any private enteprise could do.
-
Don't exagerate, HQ is highly profitable even without churchill falls. They manage to sell electricity under the market place and give billions to the government and they still make profit. Im sure a private entreprise could make more money but it would be less profitable for the government (wich gets extra money) and the population(wich get lower price, lots of quality jobs and higher quality service). I think it should be nationalize because i think all the newfie have the right to benefit from that.
-
NFLD should nationalize oil and use it to stimulate its economy. If the central government doesnt help them then they have to help themselve and im happy to learn that they have the guts to do it.

Who Was Canada's Biggest Monster?
Bakunin replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
totally agree... -
and Eureka, if someone decide to immigrate to quebec, i think he need to learn french, its a sign of respect for the community that receive them. If they don't agree then they just have to go to ontario ! isn't it simple ? We are not stupid enough to assimilate our own culture for your pleasure.....

what im saying is giving more power to province will make it easyer to make win-win deal. but some close minded people don't want more power to the province because they like it when the anglo-saxon federal government don't give a shit about what the province may think about their program.
-
stop complaining like if the english province didn't do what quebec did..... there are more english in quebec than any other province have a minority group, why ? because they have right and they choosed to stay. The people who quitted is problably has big as the people who left other province when they saw that the only billingual province was quebec. That other province where not french friendly. the only people that are touch by the law 101 are immigrant and when you look where they come from: 1. Haïti 10 000 7% 2. Liban 9600 7% 3. France 7500 6% 4. Chine 6600 5% 5. Roumanie 5200 4% 6. Sri Lanka 4700 3% 7. Philippines 4600 3% 8. Inde 4400 3% 9. Pays de l'ancienne URSS 4300 3% 10. Vietnam 4100 3% Do you see an english country ???? they are mostly part of the french community........ So stop whining......
-
there are tone of culture but im talking about the 2 biggest culture. Specially because 1 of these culture is as big as a province. eureka, english quebecers are quebecers and they still participate in the society. why is it so hard for you to accept that it would be better off on a win-win basis.
-
I think the point is evry deal must be made on a win-win basis, when we can get along and make a good program for the whole country then its great but if their is something in the deal that one province doesnt like then he can decide not to participate and this way we can coexist without fighting all the time. fighting is not productive... it wouldn't be a special status to quebec, it would be a province-federal way to deal.
-
My question is how should we deal to make it works and make it a win-win deal for both culture ? I think the main problem is in the federal system. I mean this is where the 2 culture gets in conflict. The best way is probably to make a system that avoid conflict. This mean we have to change the way federal program work and the way money is managed. First, i think its clear we should make a trully transparent system where we know where evry dollars was spent. To do that, the budget must be organise by an independant organism and when the government ask money she has to say why he need it and where he put it. Second, evry government program should have a predefined budget where he have to ask again for money if the prediction went wrong. It should be think in a way where any province for some reason can decide to opt out if he has a good reason. Third, political party system should be rethink. I think it would be easyer if evry party would make a ghost cabinet where we would see who will be minister so it would force evry party to make more national and well represented party. This way, minister would not have to be elected to be minister, they would not be deputy. The deputy system would be independant of political party. It would erase strategic vote and party line. This way it would be pointless to make regional party.

Our values ? Socially progressive in general econnomically diversified depending on each provinces culturally, 2 different culture, the canadian one and the quebec one, and both linked with the american one. and both enrich by multiple culture. politically fucked up...
-
Im from quebec, well my point of view is quite radical but here it is: First, well its the federal system that we should change, and the senator would take the deputy's job. Here is what it could looks like. people vote for a party team first than vote for a senator, so people vote for an individual person torepresent them and a party team to govern the country. There are senator that get elected proportionally to the province pop, with maybe some sort of system to give more power to less populate provinces. And when the government take a decision, then the senator vote... since they are not part of any party, their is no party's line and less strategic vote. Then this mean if the government want to do something he have to convince the senate first. And something would be great too is that the country, money, and budget should be regulate by the senate so if the party want to spend money on something then he need to ask the senate so this mean no hidden money for sponsorship and etc.. and this mean no more hidden surplus like the liberal always do.... we would know our finance budget from a balanced and impartial organisation. I think we should do this to reduce the federal abusif power, for transparency and because the population doesn't trust the government anymore...

NDP Gains the Most in Latest Poll (Nov 10/04)
Bakunin replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
im sorry maple but first there are only 2 poll that can be acurate in quebec, the leger marketing poll and "crop lapresse" poll because they learned with time how poll had to be made in quebec to be accurate. often they where showing the bloc at 55% while it never passed the 45-50%. and they where showing the liberal with a lot less % than they should. it must be the way they share the undecided voters (undecided tend to be liberal that don't want to say it) and how they choose the voters. and in reality it look is more like that: Quebec Libs: 27 --> 33-35% Cons: 10 --> 7-12% NDP: 13 -->5-10% Bloc: 44 -->35-45% Grn: 3 -->0-1% and the voting day, ndp and conservative goes even more down. -
I had read it in the newspapers and yes, this was an interesting article.

The best way is problably to apply a childcare program but not to fix an universal price. the states must let decide the parent how they want to be helped.

Good grief, Charlie Brown!
Bakunin replied to Big Blue Machine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
maybe they need a leader from quebec hehe... it worked well for the liberal... -
That is what ticks me off; why should I pay for your day care; I would prefer that we enable one parent to stay home and raise their own children. I don't mind helping single parent get back on their feet but if you are going to have children; raise them yourselves. They will be much nicer better people and will have better bonding with their parents. you are not paying for quebec childcare program, the quebecers are....
-
hehe, how is it reliate ? My sister works in a childcare center and she told me sad stories, there are children that are not educate or badly educate by there parent, even very basic stuff..., there are also children in childcare center from parent that have no jobs and that could take care of there children... But what can we do when children are not well raised... If thei can access to high quality childcare service and the people who work there will have no problem with the child but if the children makes trouble, then its clear the people will make what they can to try to educate him better, i don't think that we can call that "the state's is raising our children", its just the people who work there try to prepare children for the future and thats a good thing. We can say it deresponsabilize the parent but don't see it this way, i guess there about the same amount of bad parent in quebec than other society, if they get access to better childcare system then its just better for the child. Yeah thats another very big problem.
-
This is clear that quebec will never accept rules from the federal about childcare program... its just unthinkable...
