As I said ; it is a choice for many reasons; but it is a choice; it is not a sacrifice like people joining up in war time.

Good one hehehehe LMAO

No LOGIC?????????? come on now Gun registration does not prevent anyone with a legitimate reason from owning a gun .

Not everyone is compromising; only English Canada; that is the problem. Quebec doe not return the respect.
-
Yeah sure; and having our soldiers die in Iraq. Or what other price would we pay???? Do you mean that we should negotiate with blackmailers which is what Bush and his government are if these trade deals are being bogged down because we didn't join in an illegal invasion of a disarmed country.
-
It takes two to tango and two to negotiate. Many of us look and see Quebec who refuses to cooperate and negotiate. The refusal to give the English language equal rights in the province while expecting other provinces with minimal French speaking population to accomodate French speaking visitors or citizens equal access to services. (expecting any federal employee to be able to converse in Franch) has really ticked off many of us and less willing to accomodate Quebec. It appears that Quebec wants us to bend over backwards to accomodate them without giving back any respect or consideration.

Our primeminister does NOT legally have to be bilingual; it is just advisable if he wants to get the votes from both. We do have a military; we don't need a large military as we are not an aggressive nation; nor do we go around angering other nations. Our close proximity to the USA is the reason why we must now beef up our military to protect ourselves from enemies of the USA.

Where can you get a custom made shirt for 12 dollars. Order me 100. A cheap custom made regular cotton shirt is $80. Most executives, lawyers, bankers that I know wear shirts costing about $200.

The mother made similar allegation before; against her husband and another incident. Why do these mothers or fathers allow their children to stay with a 45 year old male especially after the previous allegations against him. I do feel for the kids caught up in this; but have no respect for the parents at all.

Now a days it could be male or female. Men wear a basic shirt style year after year; women do not. These machines are expensive and take up space. How do you design an effective pressing machine that allows the always changing womens styles. Women would have to decide to wear a uniform style clothing to make this financially viable. Clothing is charged by different materials and colours. Dark colours where the colours may run in laundry (male or female) are charged more. Changing materials and clothing styles can get complicated; to have a expert at the counter that can discriminate effectively would be expensive and staff hard to find so some cleaners take the easy route and charge more for ladies. Shell buttons and other fancy buttons are a concern, Myself, I do have a knowledge of drycleaning, spotting, pressing and laundry beyond the average cleaner or counter personnel.

That is a cheap shot. We have been paying more than our share for years. We have only been technically a have not province for a short period which is coming to an end. As for BC ... "bring cash" whatever that is supposed to mean?? Of course, you can bring cash but we accept debit or credit cards, too. Did you think you should holiday here for free. If I am heading to Alberta; I would bring my cash and cards. We don't free load. As for just letting Quebec go and companies there just go under; don't forget that the majority of Quebecers, so far, want to remain in Canada. Even if Quebec got the vote to separate; do we just abandon all those people and companies that did not want to separate. Actually, I have no problems with Alberta, other than your weather. Just this forum seems to be full of Albertan separatists; not likely the mindset of the majority of Albertans. We all get irritated by the federal government and its disregard for the west; however, I believe we need to demand more equality and respect but we are still better off being part of that larger entity. Heaven help us if BC were to separate with our yo yo politics here.

Trudeau did but since then it has been mainly bribes and vote buying that I have seen.

I think that is due more to the concessions made to Newfoundland over the oil revenues,

Wrong; most women wash and iron their own "shirts" Women's shirts do not press flat; we generally have darts. Females do not wear the same style year after year to make such a press viable. For every thousand men shirts; we may take in 5 ladies. Many these days contain lycra that requires a cold wash or drycleaning. The majority of drycleaning is still predominantly males. Most ladies tend to wear the same blouse for many wearings; while most men wear the shirts only one time. I suppose it is partly due to them more willing to touch up the press and because of the cost. Oh, and it is not a "press board" it is generally a 3 piece shirt press. Collars and cuffs / body press/ and sleeves. ladies cuffs often do not open up and lay flat. Fragile buttons such as expensive shell buttons break easily even when individually wrapped and must be replaced. As far as suits go; where I have worked; we charge the same price for ladies or men's suits of the same material and style. This of course means pant suits with a regular crease in the slacks. Skirt suits or slacks with no center crease are too varied to have a suitable press that would allow quicker processing.

Oh wow!!!!!! big deal; I could find more dissident Canadians willing to spread bs.

Where did you get THIS information? Canada did not allow "nazis" to enter our country legally; although they are allowed in the USA. We allow communists but the USA does not.

If you are talking about a regular men's shirt; you should change drycleaners. What size? many shirts under a size 15 collar would not fit on the press same as boys shirts; and need to be hand finished. Perhaps your shirt has a fair amount of makeup on that requires special pretreatment. To suggest that a drycleaning establishment would go by smell is ridiculous. Plus, mens shirts are laundered not drycleaned. If you ask for it to be drycleaned you make well pay extra. It is a completely different process cleaning and finishing. Mens laundered shirts are pressed while they are wet. Men really get a shock when they purchase rayon or silk shirts that require drycleaning and costs the same as ladies. They usually opt to only wear these shirts for special occasions after paying the higher prices..

Well, I think there was an article stating that a majority of our money spent on the military does go to pay for "civillian" employees.
-
Basically, yes. It is a job that one takes knowing the problems that come with it. I really don't believe most people join the army at a time of peace for Canada with serving one's country as their prime reason. They join because they have no education; the military will pay for training. Perhaps they joined thinking that it attracts the ladies or they like playing with guns. Why did you join Army Guy???

Why would we want Quebec to leave Canada. We need all our provinces and territories to make a strong Canada (Even whining Albertans) I think it is time that the federal government started negotiating agreements with Quebed, in good faith; rather than the recent method of attempting to bribe Quebec to stay. Quebec needs to give the English language the same rights and respect that it expects from other jurisdictions.

This is a federal contract; not a hand out. It is about time BC got a few federal contracts. As for the federal government subsidizing some industries; it paid out quite a bit to the beef industry; the fishing industry is subsidized and the fisherment get to work part time and collect EI. Another form of subsidy. Sometimes it is necessary to prop up industries rather than have large segments of the population unemployed and getting handouts. Other industries are subsidized that need to spend large sums of R&D; Canada needs to have companies that can produce high tech equipment and other industries including pharmaceuticals.

Oh yeah; real good reliable source you have. They are a poor nation; thanks to US sanctions as the Cubans threw out the US backed regime that makes Castro look like a saint. Their hospitals may not be fancy but at least they are trying and caring.

US Alaska oil drilling plan "big mistake" - Canada
caesar replied to anticlimates's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I do believe that the USA imports most of its oil from Canada; probably, mainly Alberta. World supply, however, is what dictates prices. Probably one of the main reasons so many Albertans are pro American and anti Kyota. -
I think this type of bill goes too far. There is usually a legitimate reason for the pricing difference. I worked in drycleaning and can tell you that there is a big difference in pressing women"s shirts and men's shirts. Men have traditionally for years worn the same basic style of shirt; most wear a shirt one day. Men's shirts can be processed in an assembly line style with a expensive shirt press that will adjust for most mens regular cotton shirts. Ladies and boys will not fit on the press. They must be pressed by hand which takes much more time. They often have more fragile buttons such as thin shell buttons which break easily. There are not enough ladies wearing straight fit shirts to make a ladies shirt press viable. Ladies shirts tend to have darts and more shape that do not press flat. The prices will not really change; they will need to justify them by sizes, buttons. straight bottom, too short for press. Hand finish or whatever; women generally would not accept the finish on most men's shirts. I am sure the hair dresser / barber industry has similar justifications. Why would we prevent free enterprise. If there is a company that can provide services for ladies garments at the same price as men's ; those who did not follow suit would lose business. Nobody is forced to use any particular drycleaner or hair dressing salon.
