  1. Hmmm as for Carole James; perhaps it is time we elected a female leader. Perhaps then we can have one premier that doesn't end up facing criminal prosecution.
  2. NO???????? How about the gas taxes, health premiums, etc and cuts to our health services???? How come they drove up our deficit despite the sell off of all our assets??? I repeat; Compared to Campbell and the scandals of this government; Glen Clark looks like a boy scout.
  3. Wrong; we do not see the government as a solution. There is too much money wasted in government; particularly in Canada with a decentalized government. We are paying enough money now to take care of health care if these governments would quit playing games and work together. Like many others; I like to see what aI am paying for an item; not having to factor in all the extra taxes. The gst makes more money for the government because every step along the way is taxed. By the time it reaches the consumer; a good portion of the price is already paid taxes.
  4. Canada is much safer not allying herself with American military programs. We are not a thrat to other nations; we dea; fairly with other nations; why would any country wish to attack Canada unless we join the USA programs that no longer show respect for international law. From Celluci's remarks they would not honour Canada's air space soverneighty. I would prefer to take our chances on our own and keep our self respect and ideals.
  5. Of course, they do. The American government is a conservative one; only concerned with big business and let the consumers pay the price. That is the same type of government that many on this forum support. Well, I am a middle income consumer and I am tired of making the rich richer. If the government is going to grab my money, anyhow, I would prefer that money be spent on health care that all require and to assist those who are handicapped or have health problems( be they mental or physical) that prevent them from making their own way in life. However, I would not want to go so far as to support those who do not take the initiative to work; particularly those who believe they are too good to take a minimum wage job and work their way up. If that is all that is available to them; they should take the position until something better comes along.
  6. Wrong again; Martin did NOT have a mandate; Chretien did; Paul Martin was not elected by the voters to lead our country. Legally, he did have the rights; morally, he did the right thing by avoiding any serious decisions until after the election. Democracy is not as many believe' supposed to be just once every 4 years or so on voting day. Democracy should seriously consider the wishes of the people.. His decision, which may not be his own personal choice; does follow the known wishes of the majority of Canadians. That is the path he should follow and with a minority government must follow to avoid another espensive, undecisive election. I am not a fan of Martin's but shudder to think of any of the other leaders (Harper in particular) making these decisions.
  7. I know how and why he got elected; I won't understand if he gets re elected. We all pay taxes and government is supposed to represent us all; not just big business nor all the nepotism going on in government. His cuts to health care, children's ministries, womens rights and raises to all sorts of fees and licenses that paid for the tax cuts to his wealthy friends. The blown up media attention to Geln Clark's patio do not come close to the scandals facing this government. Campbell who previously demanded anyone with the possibility of a scandal to resign; did not take theat road when he himself was arrested for DUI in a foreign country. His forgiveness to fish farms for fines and rents owing is particularly alarming when we now discover that he has shares in fish farming, himself. The raid on the legislature; as yet not fully disclosed; has already led to charges of influence peddling and a grow operation against 2 ministerial aides; plus another drug addicted ministerial aid (Not positive but high rank government employee) arrested time and time again for drug possession. Then there is the cousin of Nancy Campbell; millions were forgiven to him illegally; he was under investigation for cheque kiting when hired. After his failure with thw software sold to our government ; hje is appointed to a children's aid job by the government. I could go on and on but I must walk my dogs.
  8. Road building and maintainance is a A Provincial jurisdiction. Car drivers pay too much now. Their gas taxes go to pay for transit systems that are not available or usable for everyone equally. We all have to subsidize the transit systems that do not accomodate all areas.
  9. yeah right. BS. Rav should have gone down Arbutus; that would have been much cheaper. The rail could have been obtained in the deal (giveaway) 0f BC Rail.
  10. Great post Eureka. These young punks think they have all the answers. Thanks to their seniors and the boomers; they are now very easily able to work towards a good education. Everything on a silver platter and still they whine. Spoilt and lazy. One doesn't appreciate anything they don't have to make an effort for themselves. We fought for the rights they enjoy; they whine.
  11. You got that right; the change we need is to rid ourselves of this present provincial government!!!!!
  12. That my dear is nonsense; like everything this government does; nothing is ON the table; all is under the table.
  13. Obviously, you are not a small business owner on Cambie street that have now discovered that Cambie street will be torn up and their businesses will probably go bankrupt for RAV. No compensation or pity for them. Particularly, unfair as everyone was being lead to believe that the street would be tunnelled underneath; it deprived them of lobbying against Rav during the three votes. If at first you don't get the vote you like; vote vote vote again. eh. Good luck, you and your small business could fall under their steam roller next. Campbell and his cronies are only concerned with big business.
  14. It is comments like Celluci's claiming that Canada is giving up its sopverneity to our airspace but not joining the missile defense shield. That sounds like a threat of invading our air space; those types of threats are not appreciated. Canadians do not want to be dictated to. Democracy rules; don't dictate. And do not violate our air space without permission and prior notice.!!!!!
  15. Bush financially acoountable?????? I bet your kids and grandchildren won't think so after they start paying off all the money he has wasted and the huge deficit he has left behind for them to pay. If the USA doesn't go down the tubes. How many billions have been spent and will be spent on invading a country without just cause and with little positive results for the USA. You go ahead spending your tax money on killing; we will spend ours on saving lives. These people needing help are not just the "down trodden" They are people injured in serious accidents; those with serious health problems that cannot work. They are middle income earners who cannot afford astronomical medical bills.
  16. No, we don't but we do look at politicians lying to us and endangering the world for revenge or oil. There were no WMD in Iraq, there was no viable threat to the USA from Iraq. There was no need to risk soldiers and Iraqi citizens lives based on fraudulent documentation, forgeries, and irrelevant 10 year old student's papers. Do you really believe Bush's action in invading Iraq while they were still substantially cooperating with the UN weapons inspectors has made the USA a safer place to live? Many experts agree that this is not the case. That illegal action has only served to anger Muslim nations and allowed the "terrorists" to recruit more volunteers. Do you believe that allowing and approving of the torture of prisoners against the Geneva conventions will make the usa A SAFER PLACE??? Do you think that will lead to a more peaceful world. Do you not realize that threats aimed at "rogue" nations with unstable dictators will not make the world safer??? What it has done; is made them declare that the too have nuclear weapons: producing nuclear arms; and building up military preparedness in order to defend themselves from a possible attack by the USA. Bush backs away from confrontation with N Korea probably because he does believe that they do have this nuclear power and would have no hesitation using it.
  17. I think this is basically provincial jurisdiction but I do not like the use of long term tolls to pay for highways. People in certain areas get hit paying tolls and paying the other taxes (fuel +) that are supposed to pay for road works. A temporary toll (10 years or less) on bridges or highways that reduce travelling time significantly may be acceptable. This is especially important in more remote areas. The citizens there are helping to pay for transit systems that only are used it the cities; especially this super expensive RAV line we are building in BC
  18. Just get with the program. A little extra work won't hurt you. This is not the kind of decision that will be cancelled unless it has been shown to be detrimental. I don't know much about it but sounds good to me.
  19. True enough; most of the people on the left prefer our more humane and sympathetic approach to people down on their luck and/or suffering health problems. The right (Conservatives) biggest interest is money and to h with the others less fortunate. I tend to prefer a more central balanced position. I would like to see us help the unfortunate people who are unable to fend for themselves that have good reasons why they cannot fend for themselves; I think healthcare is something we all need at one time or another and would not want to see people suffer just because they don't have the cash to pay for expensive health care. We have to help where it is deserved and still balance the books. Too much help and there is diminished incentive to pull ones own weight
  20. You young-uns sure like to whine and blame your elders. We older ones and our ancestors built this country; you ingrates have it easy. All you do is whine.
  21. Of course we can co exist with Muslims, Buddhists, Jews and all the other religions; just keep them out of politics. We all live and get along quite well here in Vancouver. Of course, there has been fighting between the two religions in some parts of the world. More disgusting has been the fighting between Christians such as what has been going on in Ireland between Protestants and Catholics.
  22. I am sure if the opposition is strong enough against a bill' it could be changed or revoked.
  23. Now you seem to think that universities are completely psychic when offering new courses and should know when some course is going to become popular. These things must be planned ahead and a suitable trained teacher available. Women in history would be more logically more popular, IMO; 50% of the world are women and our contributions to history largely ignored. As for more teaching being done concerning the slavery issue in the USA; that, too, makes sense. There is lots of stories about George Washington and his contributions already told and learned in grade school. It is time to tell the stories and history that the white man has neglected and ignored. Hopefully, this history discusses the genocide of the American natives, too.
  24. Trudeau was a much stronger thinker and intellect than that. He never worried about the votes. He did what was best and fair for Canada. Albertans are peppered with former Americans who are attempting to Americanize Canada. We like our own version of a country. The majority of Canadians do not wish our country to be a carbon copy of the USA with alls its warts and lack of compassion.
  25. Today's Sun newspaper; We are not allowed an annual check up anymore. We must foot the bill ourselves; however we can get a free sex change. There are many disease without symptoms that a doctor can detect. High blood pressure being a particularly deadly one "the silent killer" as there are usually no symptoms. Guess they need to pay for all that free heroin for the drug addicts and safe area for shooting up that is costing taxpayers millions. What a stupid move.
