  1. Well, it is pretty hard to define oneself by something one is completely unaware of right? Americans don't generally define themselves as global citizens either. "A nation of spectators." - some American describing his nation. Indeed slavery is still very much a part of American culture, Like Mom and Apple Pie. No denying that. Another Canadian wanna-be who defines himself in terms of Canada. tsk, tsk, tsk
  2. Parks Canada isn't credible?
  3. "leave a mark" LOFL! Trust an American to wildly exaggerate at their own expense. Kind of like mortgage affordability eh? How's that working out for you? But seeing your national culture - as stated on all your media - seems to be reporting that racism is a far more insidious issue with you guys - what with all that slavery and stuff - I am just being neighbourly for asking. No need to get testy.
  4. That is our "national culture?" Thank God we have an astute American telling us about it. BTW, how is all the racism coming along in the US? Any more million man marches lately?
  5. It would. Or we just move in and save ourselves the bill. Just get a couple thousand Inuit to move there, declare indigenous rights to the land (and ice) and then get themt o join Canada. We'll make it a province 'n stuff.
  6. I am guessing the 'WWW' stands for What's Wrong With... Toronto Transit?
  7. I did and tend to go with Joachim Jeremias interpretation as a critique of contemporary religious leaders, as Jesus often did. But it comes down to interpretation and anyone that can spin Jesus as a blonde and blue eyed dude likely has the intellectual capacity to spin the Gospels into anything they want. Blame the Protestants.
  8. The Beaver is also Canada's emblem. They have no need to deal with Roots at all. I really can't see why they would. It is not like the Ministry of Citizenship has any deal with Maple Leaf meats to produce little mini-flags for new citizens. Do you remember the 'Roots Athletics'logo that ran for years in the 80's & 90's? I had a sweatshirt that mocked it with 'Rats Pathetic' and a stylized rat in the background.
  9. I'd rather pay a few billion for Greenland.
  10. How would that work? Parks Canada pays a large slice to Roots for producing the goods? Nah, if they contract the production out themselves, they can brand it anyway they want and likely charge less for Roots quality gear without any fees going to Roots.
  11. What I am getting at is, how would you know? The rules have changed, which implies that the "strategy" has changed. You admit this yourself by saying this isn't a big-hammer type protest. Do you know what the changed rules for protesting are? Because if you don't, then I hardly think you can pronounce a "lack of strategy." You are aware of what culture jamming is, aren't you?
  12. Unless they have Canuck jerseys on.
  13. Really, are you sure? A few pages back you were perplexed with the strategy, now you purport to know it? The problem is, you are trying to analyze it historically by projecting yourself into the future and looking back.
  14. What do you mean, "what does that mean?"
  15. To the next day. What do you expect?
  16. If they have grounds. Every major protest had its element in court. But you already knew that. From you, yes. You always bail out before the plane takes a hit.
  17. Is this as specific as you can be? I see. And how long did each of those esteemed protests of yore take to achieve their objectives? 3 weeks? A month? A year?
  18. Really? Where? That can be attributed to the movement I mean. They did? Like what?
  19. No actually, it is more of a classic ((religion verus science) versus new science) kind of thing with a death at the end. You know, it is much easier to label someone a heretic and burn them at the stake than to examine all the details and have an article of faith proven wrong.
  20. OK, so let's say we do that. What "parties" are going to format the information for us to be easy to read? Do you imagine some special department created to make sure this happens or would you prefer they contract it out to Nelvana so the information can be explained in cartoon format?
  21. People have the right to peaceful assmembly and freedom of association. On what grounds can anyone argue that what they are doing is somehow wrong? That is because you are still waiting for the big-hammer protest message like in the storied days of yore. But one can easily argue that they have already achieved much in just a few weeks, national news coverage, in depth magazine articles, blogs, websites, people chatting about it on Internet forums, messages of social responsibility getting out there every day.
  22. 2,700 personal tax files downloaded on missing laptop Intresting story from the Star. Ignoring that knowledge of this incident required a ATIP request by the Canadian Press, this is what is alarming: Meanwhile, at CRA: "...currently drafting???" W. T. F? Ironic sidebar: she won $6,000 for the grievance that originally led to them discover the breach in the first place.
  23. When I say "details" I don't mean the effort at obtaining them. Here is an excellent movie illustrating the paradigm: Agora. It is a historical drama of course, but a good one. I would tell you the details, but have faith that Wikipedia is accurate enough.
