  1. You are such a hero Rue, coming into the discussion heroically like that, sticking up for all the veterans like you do. And that part about the trauma, simply fabulous. Keep up the good work Rue, we're counting on you!
  2. Do I think what's cool? What on earth has compelled the thought that by denying a group of vets from making a Rememberance Day presentation somehow the kids wouldn't be learning about, and the sacrifices made during, the wars Canada has fought in? I have never had such a presentation and I have a pretty darned good grasp of Canada's history, including the wars she has fought. Don't you?
  3. Yes, exactly. So when you get to the point where you are doing the 'final interviews' wouldn't you say that the people on that final slate are equal in one way or another by having passed the qualification requirements you had originally advertised the job for? Well, except in this case where the bilingualism qualification was dropped for some reason.
  4. No, but the upsetting-kids-from-war-torn-countries was a decent excuse, why haven't you focused on that one yet? How do you feel about that as a reason? However, I think the likely reason is that until a recent committee meeting, no one every gave it any thought and thus have never prepared for the inevitable: when some smug, over-the-top social engineering committee member told them to adhere to the letter of the law (no guns!!!) or they would seek to take the issue to an internal panel of higher ups and cause a lot of ruckus, thereby causing those who never thought about it and never prepared for it, a lot of pressure and stress. Thinking it wasn't worth it, and realizing that the social engineering type could cost maybe one or maybe two sleepless nights, they caved and just said, 'ok, whatever. any consequences will blow over soon enough anyways. before we know it, it'll be Christmas. BTW, no Christmas trees in schools this year too.' And it might not have been just one smug social engineer either, it could been, maybe two or three with one of them holding a grudge against someone on the unprepared side and wanted to rub it in their faces. One of them might have been a Muslim from a war torn country (I mean, aren't they all?) and added that at the tail end of the decision document to confuse people who really want to know why. Just guessin' And thus, the decision was made.
  5. What does "glorifying violence" have to do with it? Did you "hear" something new or are you turning PC too?
  6. What "ceremonies?"
  7. He was a contender to replace Harris too. Twice in fact. He was going to declare homelessness illegal.
  8. So you think a final slate of candidates for a given job is a waste of time then? That is, don't screen candidates just pick your favourite?
  9. Why would you "hope" that especially since it is a protected right in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms?
  10. Really? For the candidates for the job? One assumes that once people reach the level of some serious candidacy that there would be some measure of equal abilities don't you think?
  11. Then they should have went with a unilingual French AG because they would bring more, I dunno, je ne sais quoi to the job, a little more 'joi de vivre' that could be imparted on all the angry Anglos because their isn't an app for that. Well, for the all the angry Anglos, there is ex-lax...
  12. Dear smallc, Please tell us the what possible differences in the candidates for the Auditor General of Canada's job could invalidate the requirement for bilingualism as stated in the job posting, along with all the other qualifications. Thank you, Shwa
  13. No, they can't. Its a Roman Catholic school board, not the US military.
  14. Come on now Michael, there is no need for that. Besides, everyone knows that to accurately restate Shady's 'points' you would have to start with your index finger moving up and down between your lips and make a babbling noise.
  15. No, it was a serious question I was posing to you. Do you have any idea or are you just going on a hunch?
  16. Come on now, it's an Auditor General's job. At that level, what is the skill difference? Someone can operate a calculator faster?
  17. They do, although some of the girls skirts are of a scandalous length. Damned PC RC's and their mini-skirted minions!
  18. That's what I was thinking. They had run out of breathless entertainment stories to plaster their homepage with, so they went a-digging.
  19. Quebec provincial government maybe, but bilingualism in the Federal government is an asset and required in many places, but not all. Some regions still employ unilingual English staff don't you know...
  20. The problem is that the AG is a 'serving' position and the AG should be bilingual, like the qualifications that the government agreed to in the first place. The AG can work in whatever language they prefer, but to serve Parliament - with the French MP's - they should be bilingual to be able to directly answer to questions in the areas in which they report in the language preferred by the French MP's. So the disingenuous Liberals have a point. But I suppose that since there aren't any French MP's in the CPC, and those that are should speak English anyways, there is little concern iby the government. But this issue would have been more fun had their been the appointment of a unilingual French AG.
  21. Let me help you out a little bit by posting a link. No doubt you were out of breath just to post your opinion, your forgot the story. Liberals protest 'abuse of process' in AG pick One wonders if the Liberals would have walked out if the job poster hadn't specified bilingualism as a requirement for the job.
  22. You "heard" about other reasons other than the no-guns policy? Where did you hear this?? Hey, I agree with you more or less. There can be no amount of traumatizing we shouldn't subject our kids too, you know, to upset them enough not war among one another when they grow up. Especially those German kids. One day a peaceful little Uter munching on his globeschlopsicle, the next day a Nazi overlord...
  23. Is there a no knife ban at the RC school board in Ottawa? I can hazard a guess there are no tanks in the cafeteria though.
  24. Nah, chopped liver is more interesting and, in this case, more enlightening.
  25. That is a good question, so I decided to do some investigative journalism and check to see what the Ottawa Sun had to say in their version of the story. Them being closer to the action and all. Here is what I found: No guns means no guns I guess. Damned PC academics and their precise use of language! Although I did find this curious: So by not allowing such a display, we are somehow 'misrepresenting our history?' Oh-oh...
