it's status quo only for you, your posts would indicate you're terrified of anything that you do not understand or threaten your parties cling to power...I mention actual results and it's "anecdotal" and you offer nothing but rhetoric and opinion and consider that sufficient and relevant?

oh BS accountability is not unique to FPTP...in the netherlands recent election the fanatic right wing was held accountable for their lunacy and punished in the polls...

from what I read the swedes have a choice when voting, they can vote for the party or individual candidates...the 4% threshold is subjective, I'm not advocating following any countries exact method we can find our own...

so you lean toward less democracy ( one party rule because it's more efficient) as your democratic ideal, whereas I prefer to lean toward the Direct Democracy ideal...PR works in many countries without any apparent adverse effects which you imply... a system of government that requires 50%+ of the elected members of the elected body to come together would seem to me to have more power and legitimacy to enact changes than one that does not...

Well someone finally did it! Someone took Muslims to a HRC

they each have two locations whether they have more in other cities I don't know, they may be family owned but their size makes it impossible to be run by family alone....my in-laws ran a small mom and pop restaurant and with numerous kids it was still impossible to run without non family help, even though they objected to a white boy(me) in the family they still hired white help... -

actually they are both Japanese...now you could say they hire japanese kids to serve as they can communicate with the japanese sushi chefs but my daughter tells me she had a chinese/canadian friend hired as a severer and she certainly can't speak Japanese...and after working in canada for a few years the excuse that the chefs don't understand english would be difficult to believe and the staff is young which makes it even more unlikely they don't speak english...there is a third Japanese restaurant nearby which may be a family operated and I recall seeing a lone white kid being trained helping the chefs... -
interesting, that might work...I've been trying to understand Sweden's system it has it's appeal as well , though the french method is appealing for it's simplicity...

bambino asserted that Italy was unstable because of PR and it isn't,looking at other countries with PR they are no more unstable than our FPTP,...contrary to urban myth Italy's record of general elections show it's clearly more stable where compromise/negotiation becomes part of the process which is essential to a democracy... what is apparent from other people's pov is they have never given this much thought and status quo if as long it benefits their political party want no part of change....for others it appears the PR is too complex to understand or they're just to lazy to try...

the senate actually does something other than suck on the public tit it does bugger all...they represent no one but themselves...MPs also represent their regions so the senate is useless duplication as well...you're probably the only person in the country other than the senators that actually believes they're relevant... and I don't think the senators actually believe it themselves they just play along with the game and collect their patronage cheques...

ya there's the typical response, let's not use a more stable PR country as an example let's find the worst case possible...okay let's do that let's look at Italy.... so how many general elections has this PR instability triggered in Italy since WW2, 17....and how many general elections has our oh so much more stable canadian FPTP system resulted in since WW2 ? ...21 .....oopsie! that can't possibly be right... and three more, none of whom have had as many general elections as canada Germany PR/FPTP-17 Netherlands PR-20 Sweden PR-20

oh please, the cpc/harper makes and breaks promises to the electorate whenever it suits them...compromise "before" elections is bogus as agreements are unenforceable ... which is exactly what we have now....a government elected by 39.5% of the electorate having the majority of the representation, a phoney majority, in fact a government of the minority ... not democratic and far removed from the Direct democracy ideal and further than away than PR would be..,

actually the populace does vote for the leaders, everyone can join the party and become part of the process...the populace has as much say in who the leader is as we do...which like is zero if you don't belong to a political party, we do not pick our leaders the parties do...it's essentially the same procedure...on the surface one party rule may seem less democratic then multi-party democracies but with in that one party there are still left, center and right factions... ya I do, Direct democracy being the ultimate democracy and working back from that position is a lessening of democratic ...PR is more democratic than fptp because it's more inclusive and closer to the direct democracy ideal ...

the threshold is whatever we desire and we can change it if we desire more or less representatives...5 or 10% would be my initial choices and why is israel your go to model? you could have chosen an example from numerous countries that have few issues ....does our fptp system work flawlessly? prorogation would suggest otherwise...democracy is difficult at the best of times but it's better than no democracy...

what if I want a one party system where the bus driver gets a possible 2 terms of 5 years each and they don't cater to any minorities-chinaif I wanted stability that's a better system than what you want...but I want a better democracy where all votes count, everyone is represented and the government reflects a true majority, it may be a little messy but it's a better democracy

the clientele in the instances I mentioned are mostly white and reflect the demographics of the area....in small mom and pop restaurants where English isn't the first language I can understand it but in large "westernized" established restaurants it's very suspicious, especially when the restaurants immediately next door in both cases have employes that reflect the community demographics... -
and who leads the coalition in Britain the larger or the smaller of the the two parties? I've never heard of a coalition where the larger party didn't become the dominant power...parties need to reach a consensus/agreement that's what democracy is all about...a PR system would likely see more parties the cpc could split back into reform and PC, NDP could split into ndp and waffle(if they're still around) liberals could combine with conservatives forming a new party, there are members in each party who are not comfortable with who they team up and not all that different from members in another party, it's why MPs cross the floor...greens would become viable adding a voice that needs to be heard even if they never form part of any coalition... coalition guarantees the more moderate center will always have a voice even if we have a center-left or center-right coalition..the center and a majority are always in control... it's been mentioned that we will lose regional representation but I doubt it... party control will weaken over individual members and members of the same party coming from different regions have different interests, a liberal or ndp mp from Alberta will still be looking after Alberta interests...

Britain doesn't have provincial politics, electoral boundaries that don't cross provincial boundaries, it's a significant difference that influences voting..."firewall alberta" "let the eastern bastards freeze in the dark" it creates an us against them attitude, it becomes divisive...

no the McDonalds happens to be right door to one of the asian restaurants...it's quite a contrast McDonald's looks like a UN assembly of teenagers every color of the rainbow, the restaurant next door(whites, blacks, browns need not apply) ...and the asian restaurant next door to where my daughter works is exactly the same, no whites... but her employer a national chain hires everyone (majority white)... -

family owned sure but these are large restaurants with large turnovers of staff and a white kid is never hired ever...would a McDonalds that never has a ethnic kid working for it in an ethnically diverse community not raise questions? -
how does PR ignore where you live? if vote in a super riding how do I not get a representative who does not represent where I live? In a super riding I could have several representatives to choose from..we don't need to choose one existing system or another, we can devise one of our own design that works for us....

something I've noticed on Kijij classifieds...job postings where the employers insist applicants be a particular ethnicity, wtf! I've seen a lot of them, if I posted an ad requiring whites only all sorts of hell would come down on my head, it wouldn't be tolerated and shouldn't... and how many Asian resturants hire non Asians? one of my kids pointed it out to me, she works as a server while in school and asked why she never applied to a nearby eatery "they don't hire white kids dad" and she's right I've never seen any white kids working there ever...what if McDonalds only hired white kids would happen then?
