  1. Busted. In his own words, from page 218 of Memoirs by Trudeau: "When Nixon's tapes later became public, it was obvious that Nixon was very angry with this decision and he had called me some nasty names. My only response was that I had been called worse things by better people."
  2. Semantics. Trudeau was much more than an economist. He felt all provinces should be on an even playing field, and took on the provincial premiers to that end. He was passionate about one Canada for all through participatory democracy. The mere act of patriating our constitution ensures his legacy.
  3. I don't think there has been a greater federalist since Trudeau.
  4. Well, this is in Harper's court now. But he doesn't have the balls to cancel the CBC.
  5. Well this Albertan thinks he was one of the greatest Prime Ministers.
  6. Isnt' that how it is now??
  7. As well they should be. Williams owes a huge apology to the very abled Canadian Cardiologists/surgeons who perform this procedure. But I won't be holding my breath.
  8. If you had actually read the article, you would have found credible sources at the end of the piece. Here is another site to mull over regarding the existence of Jesus. link
  9. Good summation here: link Uh, don't think I'd use the word "sufficient." You have gospels not written by eyewitnesses, no Roman record of Jesus' crucifixion, no other eyewitness accounts to this extremely popular person, multiple translations from one language to others, and a new testament thrown together arbitrarily, ignoring a huge amount of other gnostic material that pertain to Jesus. Granted, Jesus may have been a real person, but there is hardly a wealth of evidence to indicate he ever walked the earth.
  10. I was referring to Josephus as a credible source. This might sum it up better: The Antiquities of Josephus (37 CE - c. 100 CE), written in 93 CE contain two references to Jesus. The text comprising the first reference, the Testimonium Flavianum, states that Jesus was the founder of a sect, but the authenticity of the passage is disputed. Grammatical analysis indicates significant differences with the passages that come before and after it, while some phrases would be inconsistent with a non-Christian author like Josephus. This leads most scholars to believe the Jesus reference was either altered or added by persons other than Josephus. http://www.search.com/reference/Jesus_myth_hypothesis#Earliest_recorded_references
  11. The paragraph in Josephus pertaining to a Jesus Christ has been pretty much discredited by religious scholars. http://www.truthbeknown.com/josephus.htm
  12. Becky, the problem is you cannot use the bible to prove itself. Doesn't work, circular logic. Other problems are the contractions that are too numerous to count. The following websites give some insights into why many people do not believe in the bible: http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/ http://www.debunkingskeptics.com/Debunking_Christians/Contents.htm http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/donald_morgan/inconsistencies.html
  13. Obviously, you simply want to believe. That's your choice, but some of us agnostics have researched the history of the bible. It is a good book but not the only book. God gave us reason, not religion.
  14. In her case, 1/2 Governor would apply.
  15. And the person who said that quote (Mulroney) did the very thing he accused Turner of (patrongage), to the tune of 55 senators.
  16. Wow, a more cogent post than usual Oleg. Keep it up!
  17. Ever think of writin' for Hallmark?
  18. This guy is one sick puppy if he did this. As much as I'd love to blame the conservatives, this has nothing whatsoever to do with politics. Keep it real folks.
  19. Care to review Dubya's teleprompter record?
  20. Or Tucker Carlson ("Canada is American's retarded cousin") Or David Carney (Gov. Rick Perry's political advisor) Or even Ted Nugent (he is scheduled to play the national anthem at Sunday's Perry/Palin event. link
  21. So I guess you defend Rush Limbaugh using the "r" word four times on his show the other day? Should Palin demand an apology from him?
  22. Before you pick on Canada, best look on your own streets."Until every citizen in America experiences true equality in America; until every citizen has equal access to public buildings - America still experiences the very slavery it speaks so proudly about having abolished." link Granted we have yet to implement full blown legislation, but it's coming. In terms of numbers tho, the sheer volume of your homeless suffering from disability dwarfs anything we might have in Canada. How are you helping them?
