Will Ruby Dhalla Survive this Political Scandal?
ironstone replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think she'll have no problem surviving this.Like I have posted before, she is a member of the Liberal Party of Canada and has friends in high places, even if she is sitting on the opposition side. There was a similar incident a few years ago involving Judy Sgro. This man who was accusing her of impropriety admittedly was a shady character who had been successfully fighting deportation for years. No doubt he should have been given the boot from Canada long before this incident. If memory serves me correctly,he was deported soon after this affair. The Liberals are the overwhelming choice for immigrants in this country(wrongly so) but the moral of the story is,DO NOT cross a member of the Liberal Party of Canada.Do so at your own risk. Judging by the photo in today's Ottawa Citizen of Ruby Dhalla with a smirk on her face sitting beside her high priced attorney, she doesn't look the least bit concerned. The one's who should now be concerned are the nannies. -
When someone is trying to kill you,you have no choice but to hit back....hard.Sadly,Israel does not seem to have this right in the eyes of much of the world. For the life of me,I can't understand how groups like Hamas or Hezbollah, who want nothing less than the complete destruction of Israel and her inhabitants, are always ahead in the arena of public opinion.

Khadr - Court rules he must be Repatriated
ironstone replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This "child" has the mindset of a monster. He and his kind hate everything about Western society, freedom, democracy, you name it.If the day comes when the world is ruled by murderous fanatics like these, who do you think will be the first one's to feel their wrath? It will be the politically correct, left wing zealots who told us to always turn the other cheek instead of standing up to these twisted bastards. They have been enabled by the very people they would love to annihilate. -
Is this the real Liberal Socialist Mindset...slavery?
ironstone replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I'll wait and see how this plays out.Ruby Dhalla should be presumed innocent until proven otherwise.Don't get me wrong,I am no Liberal and in fact,I pretty much despise that party and the one thing they stand for(themselves).Given the media bias for the left in this country,I think this story will lose it's steam pretty quickly, not to mention Ruby has powerful, sympathetic friends from the provincial Liberals. I wasn't aware that her family owned some private clinics. Can we assume those clinics are run for profit? -

Canada Leads Boycott of U.N. Racism Farce

You cannot seriously compare apartheid in South Africa to how Israel treats it's non Jewish citizens. And furthermore, these people are not merely "critics" of Israel. They want to wipe Israel off the map as well as all Jewish people outside Israel. -
Why do American Christians approve of torture?
ironstone replied to dub's topic in The Rest of the World
Some call it "enhanced interrogation" and some call it torture.Compared to the Middle East methods, perhaps it should be called "torture lite".The Americans are fighting an enemy that does not play by the rules so they have taken off the gloves.Unfortunate but neccesary.I for one will not shed any tears for the Islamist fanatics who oppose our way of life, however flawed it may be. -
Toews accuses Grits of bashing unilingual citizens
ironstone replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Vic Toews or whoever holds that position is expected to strongly promote french throughout english Canada regardless of the cost or what the situation merits. As for the protection of english rights in Quebec, forget it.Bilingualism is about pandering to Quebec's continuous whining. Two official languages, biculturalism,or are we multicultural. If politcal correctness dictates that two official languages are better than one, does the same logic not suggest that the more official languages we have the better off we are?How many official languages will this country have generations from now?English,French,Mandarin,Arabic etc? Only in Canada -
Tonight on FOX at 9pm,there is a special about the media coverage of the tea parties.I encourage you guys to check it out and post your comments. So far, everything I have seen and read indicates there is a great deal of media bias on this subject.Merely reporting the facts as they are is apparently not what the mainstream media is about these days.I suspect some tea party myths will be "punked"on this special.

Khadr should make us ashamed to be Canadian
ironstone replied to Leafless's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
The fact that so many Canadians are sympathetic to Omar Khadr makes me ashamed. The fact is,Omar and his whole family despise this country and everything about it,although they enjoyed the use of our health care system. This is political correctness gone beserk.Reuniting Khadr with his family makes no sense whatsoever. -
The deck is certainly stacked against Harper and the Conservatives. It is very difficult to get your message out when the media is decidedly left-wing.Quebec will always be a problem for the Conservatives as well.Apparently he hasn't been giving enough money and power to satisfy their insatiable demands. Harper and Iggy are both brainiacs to be sure, but Iggy usually gets portrayed in a much better light than Harper.
-
I hate to find myself agreeing with "punked" but he is right, give Obama time to prove himself. To date,I don't think he's done anything noteworthy and he appears to be leading the US sharply to the left but he did win the election.I doubt that the 180 on foreign policy and his massive spending will benefit Americans and the rest of the world in any way.As for the tea parties they are just folks concerned with excessive spending and taxation.I just heard an extremely ignorant comment from one Janeane Garofalo,a no talent, liberal "celebrity" concerning the tea parties. She claims they are all racist bigots that don't like a black man in the White House. .She can't intelligently make her point or even try to use reason so she resorts to the usual method of the left, attack, attack, attack.

Explosives Found in World Trade Center Dust
ironstone replied to tango's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Hey Tango, were you one of those three guys on "The Lone Gunmen"? -
You have clearly never watched anything on the FOX news channel. As for shouting everybody down being the Republican way,you have no idea what you are talking about.Politics is probably the dirtiest game around and there are nasty things done by all sides. The worst offenses come from the left, witness the dirty campaign against Sarah Palin and her FAMILY.Compare the treatment given to Sarah Palin's daughter to the recent non-coverage of Joe Biden's daughter. There is a reason for that, the media has an overwhelming left wing bias.Merely reporting the facts just won't do,they have to put their own spin into the story. It's the same old story from the left. They overreact when their ideology is challenged in any way.It reaches all the way from censorship on campuses to almost complete domination of the mass media. This does not come from the "right" but from the left.

Alberta Employment Rate in Freefall
ironstone replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I think Albertans have a more legitimate beef than say,Quebec.Quebecers complain a lot more than Albertans, typically about not getting their "fair share" of revenue or not having enough power. -
Alberta Employment Rate in Freefall
ironstone replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Wow!Are you saying that you have no idea that Canada has been divided along "have"and "have-not" provinces?Let me explain it to you. Some provinces ,mainly Alberta,Ontario and sometimes British Columbia have typically had stronger economies than the rest of the country.By a system of this thing called "transfer payments" money goes from the "haves" to the "have-nots".And how is my previous post in any way, shape or form racist? How would you feel if most of your hard earned money went to someone that will likely never carry their own weight?Quebec got something like 7-8 billion dollars in transfer payments last year. Typical. You don't like my opinion so you start with the names. The left has such a difficult time with honest debate. [edit] Equalization payments in Canada – 2007-08 ($ millions) NL PE NS NB QC MB SK BC Total Equalization 477 294 1,465 1,477 7,160 1,826 226 - 12,925 Per capita $938 $2,118 $1,564 $1,968 $931 $1,543 $230 $0 - [edit] Criticisms Equalization payments have mostly been criticized by leaders and residents of the wealthy provinces. The premiers of oil-rich Alberta and of Ontario, with its large manufacturing and service sectors, have criticized a perceived drain on local finances. However, money is collected for equalization payments by federal taxation and is collected regardless of whether or not the province is a 'have' or 'have not' province. The difference is whether the provincial government receives money from the federal treasury. Residents of Alberta and Ontario are not necessarily taxed more by the federal government. However, since those provincial governments receive less total dollars per capita from the federal government than 'have not' provinces, they are required to collect more taxes from their residents than otherwise would be required if the equalization program did not exist. Normally, under the equalization scheme, equalization payments go down a dollar for every dollar increase in a province's treasury. Under the current formula, a have-not province loses a dollar in equalization for every dollar it makes from royalties off the sale of its natural resources, therefore creating a disincentive for developing those resources. An exception is the deal struck by Danny Williams, the premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, for their natural resource exploration and revenues. Typically a 'have-not' province, they are exempt for a period of time from the traditional calculations. A March 2007 paper published by the Fraser Institute questioned the constitutionality of the equalization payment system.[3] -
And the CNN reporter didn't show enormous bias?
-
I agree with you about MSNBC but FOX is the best.I used to watch CNN all the time. Then for a while,my satellite provider offered FOX free for a while.I found they were much better than CNN and the rest. And they are pretty balanced too.

Just so you know, proportionally, the rich pay far more taxes than those who are not rich. And Obama is greatly adding to the Uniteds States debt load.

Okay,Robin Hood should have met the same fate as the pirates that got theirs from the snipers.

Alberta Employment Rate in Freefall
ironstone replied to madmax's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
No one should gloat about Alberta's problems.Try and remember how all of those billions upon billions of right-wing petro dollars have been flowing out of Alberta and propping up much of the rest of the country.Think of socialist Quebec for one.How about the Atlantic provinces?Modern Canada has always had an enormous, bloated federal public service.A lot of the funds to keep this juggernaut going come from.......Alberta.How about all the money wasted on politically correct initiatives like bilingualism and multiculturalism?Yup,Alberta again. -
Letting the Auto Makers fall.
ironstone replied to HistoryBuff44's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This has been a long time in the making, spanning decades. They never took the imports seriously in the beginning.Quality control has been an issue,a big problem for them over many years.I don't think the management has been making the best decisions, and they seemed to be afraid to make tough decisions. The CAW and UAW have been milking the car companies for all they are worth and then some.True, the unions have made some concessions, but not nearly enough to alleviate the situation. It seems to me there is too much capacity for the size of the market as well. And if governments(we the taxpayers) bail out the North American car companies, surely we must bail out EVERYONE.I say bite the bullet and let them fail if they can't get their act together. We'll survive. -
Mentioning the pirates and Robin Hood in the same sentence is a stretch.Robin Hood stole from the rich and gave to the poor according to the story. These pirates rake in millions of dollars in ransom and keep some of it while investing the rest in more weapons to expand their operations. I don't know if there is a perfect solution, but right now the best one looks like military force, preferably by all nations affected by the piracy. The reaction of the Somalians after the Americans did the right thing shows just how dangerous this situation has become.Apparenly a sense of entitlement is a big part of Somali culture(especially males, according to a Somali man in Ottawa that ran some kind of drop-in centre for Somalis)and their threats seem to prove this.It is sad that the ship owners are refusing to arm ships sailing in this dangerous region. Some heavy machine guns mounted strategically on the ships would no doubt deter at least some of the pirates.
