Smallc, I have no problem with human anatomy. It's the parts about explicit sex acts that bother me. Also, sex-ed trends in the USA eventually make their way to Canada. There is some nasty sex-ed happening in the USA if you do your research.

Actually, I will take the responsibility as a parent and teach my own kids about sex at an age when they can comprehend the subject. I will not let some teacher who has completed a 5-hour course teach my kids about the ins and outs of sex. If that's what you want for your kids, then so be it. I don't think kids need to learn about oral sex when they are 12, or that anal sex is safe if a condom is used. Believe it or not, there are many teens out there with the self control to abstain. And if you want to do some research on the success of explicit sex-ed, look no further than the U.K. They have sex-ed at a very young age and their teen pregnancy rate and STD infection rate are amongst the world's highest. That goes against what the media wants us to know. Toadbrother, you should be old enough to realize that there are 2 sides to every coin.

What happened in Manitoba last year? I (also being in school) didn't come upon any kids grade 1-3 who talked about sex. They talked about hockey and other kid related things that normal kids talk about. Saying that kids grades 1-3 already know ALL about things may be the most idiotic statement I've read on this forum. LET KIDS BE KIDS for the few years they can enjoy it without greaseball politicians and other various degenerates warping their minds to promote their own sick agendas. I laugh at the intellectuals on here who claim that this is better to be taught by a trained teacher than parents. Being a former teacher, becoming an expert in anything education related means listening to some so-called expert speak for 5 hours. Listen to that and your an expert. For the past several weeks we have been bombarded with many anti-Conservative stories with regards to the Afghan detainee issue. However, it didn't take very long for it to be removed from the front page. Last night on the "At Issue" panel on The National, there wasn't a mention of this story, as the Rahim Jaffer story was much too "important" to not discuss in great detail. One of the main reasons I am not a member of the Liberal Party anymore is because I woke up and realized how biased the Canadian media is towards the Conservatives. I find it quite sickening. If anyone thinks that the Canadian media gives the CPC fair coverage, I would have to call that person extremely blind with limited capacity to think rationally.

Much research has proven that too much time spent on computers is re-wiring children's brains in a negative way. I understand your point Wild Bill. However, I do agree with Oleg. Kids only need to be taught basic computer skills. Knowing how to do a power point in Grade 3 is unnecessary as it takes away from the basic skills that are needed. A teacher friend of mine who has been teaching for many years tells me that kids can't do nearly as much academically nowadays as they could 20 years ago. She said textbooks, such as math, have become severely watered down. There is too much "How do you feel" instead of "What do you think?" in today's education. I think public education is doing a a great disservice to today's youth. I tend to put the blame at the shoulders of provincial departments of education. Parents need to wake up and start demanding more and better.

I would just like to know what everyone thinks of the quality of education being delivered in our public schools these days. Please share your opinions whether you live in a city or a small town, with reference to all grades starting at kindergarten. I don't want this to become a teacher bashing discussion. We all know there are good teachers and not-so-good teachers, much like any profession. A problem that I have is that it seems that some school divisions are being run like companies, without having the best interests of students in mind.
