Japan notably surrendered after the Soviet Union declared war on them, rather than after they were bombed. The Americans lost the Vietnam war, and managed a stalemate in Korea. American is still (by far) the largest military in the world and that status has probably been cemented by the revelation that Russia's is a hollow, ineffective force. The benefits of western capitalism and free market liberalism are many, but they come with a short-sightedness that can end up costing us a lot. I imagine you can agree that making yourself reliant on bad actors for strategic resources is not wise.

It was a loaded question, but not a dishonest one. My point stands, in that the arguments you make against handgun legislation can usually be used to similar effect on weapons that even a die-hard gun nut would balk at. In a battle for the hearts and minds of Ukraine, the west beat Putin. It's easy to understand why. In the West there was change and hope, and examples of prosperity that the average Russian could only dream of.
