  1. If Canada were a family, it would put "fun" into dysfunctional. But Canada is not a family. Canada is a federal state.
  2. Unlike Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Ukraine/Russia, Europeans far too often, Americans in the 1860s, we Canadians never kill each other in our disagreements. We Canadians fight constantly, often hate each other, but we manage to get along.
  3. Canada's government debt-to-GDP ratio is low (well below 100%) and falling. Overall, the world is not in debt -when you add up the numbers, it must be zero. (We cannot borrow from Martians!) Higher debt? It means more lenders. More people who trust each other.
  4. Is a country defined by its airline? Why? France has Air France. Germany has Lufthansa. Dutch? KLM. Britain once had BEA/BOAC - now British Airways. Soviet Union? Aeroflot. We have Air Canada - once known as TCA. I generally admire Lutheran Scandinavians -SAS- but the Finns have Finnair. ===== America has no national state airline. Pan Am? It went broke.
  5. Canada? Politics? Business? Airlines? Where to begin..... ====== WestJet recently bought Sunwing. I reckon that WestJet is about to destroy a wonderful airline, name brand. And in the process, WestJet may destroy itself. You know, as Eaton's and Hudson's Bay no longer exist. At least Simon's still exists.
  6. In Canada, the tax on corporate earnings is 15%, I think. My dentist is incorporated, and that's what he pays - after paying his high income tax.
  7. In Iceland, I suspect the tax people know everything. Norway? Any Norwegians on the forum?
  8. Carney as Liberal PM? This is a huge mistake for English-Canada. Canadian banks have never chosen sides.
  9. Churchill referred to the wars of religions, nations.
  10. Audit? The US federal IRS system seems to be random. Like the CRA. Revenu-Quebec seems to know about me.
  11. Disagree. This forum is remarkable. It has survived.
  12. It is not a petty issue. In France, I buy food that clearly states its origin. ==== When I buy milk or cheese in Canada, I want to know its origin. Heck, let me decide whether it is good.
  13. I saved money, at great expense; I first travelled abroad because of the 747. British Airways. I flew home on a Air Canada DC-8. ===== Ernest Hemingway got to Europe in 1917. How? I suspect that he was white, male, tall, rich.
  14. Thousands, millions, billions, trillions - at some point in the future, we will measure in quadrillions. Nationalist, you miss the point
  15. Disagree. We Canadians often hate each other. Indeed, we often hate each to the point of violence. But then we get along. ===== Check out the FLQ.
  16. I don't like this guy, Scheer. I met him once. He's no Chretien. But he shows the same logic: https://x.com/AndrewScheer/status/1941244552003846436?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet
  17. Why are urban educated women so opposed to Trump? Yet many young skilled men -handy men- favour him?
  18. I admire you Americans and your Constitution. Heck, you Americans -divided- fought a horrific civil war a century ago to maintain your Constitution. You seem divided now.
  19. WTF? 1. How does the federal IRS (CRA) calculate how much state sales tax a person paid? 2. Huh? 200K - why, God wish. In Canada, this would mean that if the provincial government taxes me, and if I earn more than 200,000, I could reduce my federal tax by the amount I paid to provincial tax. Heck, Quebec already does this.
  20. Kennedy created the Peace Corps. Trudeau Snr did the same with OFY. They both wanted to duplicate their Trust Fund life.
  21. Note to people who fly economy to Cuba: Your CO2 emissions are about the same as if you drove the same distance in a car alone. Many people have no car, but they fly.
  22. Note to Quebecers: Norway produces neither cars, nor jets. And it's not part of the EU. Norway, as Parizeau wished, has its own currency. ===== In Norway, a kwh is about 4X the price in Quebec. Norwegians do not waste their resource at home - they sell it abroad,
  23. Quebec produces Bombardier Challenger Jets that rich people use to travel. Ontario produces ICE (internal combustion engines - based on gasoline) cars.
