SALT: Trump, Big Beautiful Tax
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in State Politics in the United States
In Canada, we can't do that. ==== I pay Montreal property taxes. I pay these in person. I also pay income taxes to the province, Quebec. Finally, I pay taxes to the federal government, the CRA. -

To clarify, "local" means state or municipal/property. -
SALT: Trump, Big Beautiful Tax
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in State Politics in the United States
In Canada, we can't do that. In Canada, we cannot reduce our federal taxes with provincial government taxes paid - except in Quebec. ==== IMHO, Trump made the US tax system more "fair" - more accurate. -
Disagree. In this day and age, wars are still fought by naive young males.

US Republicans are proud of Reagan. He supposedly defeated the Soviet Union. I disagree. I frankly think that the Soviet Union could have survived for many years after Brezhnev. If Andropov had lived, the Soviet Union could have existed for many more years. ===== For better or worse, Gorbachev foolishly chose to do things differently. Like Trump.

Wars are fought by young foolish naive men, aged 16-19 or so. Ukraine has no such men. Russia does.

Europeans often kill each other. Americans once killed each other. We Canadians get along. -
3. Civil War: Get Along
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
So incensed, Napoleon went back and defeated the Austrians at Austerlitz - close to Hubertusburg. Hitler did the same at Compiegne. -
3. Civil War: Get Along
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
The Treaty of Hubertusburg, signed in February 1763. It ended the Seven Years War between Prussia and Austria. Nowadays, the Palace of Hubertusburg is in once was East Germany. It is under renovation. Stanley Kubrick made a good movie. -
SALT: Trump, Big Beautiful Tax
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in State Politics in the United States
Let me come back to this. If I understand properly, in the US, if I make gross 200k - I only have to pay federal tax on 150k. -
3. Civil War: Get Along
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Mighty rebellion? 1837? Gimme a break. ===== Curious, I looked further at the context of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham. I discovered that the Seven Years War had two treaties. The far more significant treaty was signed in a hunting lodge in Saxony - between Prussia and Austria. === Napoleon, like Hitler, once made a point of winning in the same place. -
While walking a dog, I thought of your point. -Squirrels. -Canada is cold. Let's see what happens in December

WestJet & Sunwing -Airlines in Canada

Precisely. I'm with Trudeau Snr. An airline is not a measure of a country. -
Is America Sustainable: Urban vs Rural
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Disagree strongly. Robosmith, your answer seems like an AI based on Wikipedia. -
Will Trump divide "British" Columbia?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Disagree. Strongly. Ordinary people -around the world- generally waste less than we Canadians. But they need hydrocarbons. ==== I am amazed that we rich Canadians would stop foreigners from our wealth. -
2. Protestant vs Catholic
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Huh? Nowadays, some Americans hate Trump. In the 1860s, some people were Catholic and others Protestant. In Canada, we got along. -
2. Protestant vs Catholic
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
No, in Canada at large. Ontario's first premier was Catholic. Google it. -
WestJet & Sunwing -Airlines in Canada
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Vacation airlines are always difficult. Butts in seats. Since Westjet bought Sunwing, it is an utter disaster Before, Sunwing knew its customers, pilots, staff: Sunwing knew its market, business. Westjet doesn't ==== You Albertans don't understand Canada, Quebec.
