  1. Like what bio diesel? yep we saw what happened with ethanol and what happened to the cost of food, and the publics reponse to that. Not to mention every acre of Canada switched over to production of canola, still wouldn't be enough to replace half of our fuel consumption. Its never going to happen. We can even look at the effects of wind turbines on people www.ctv.caThe GP policy is nothing more than feel good policy for people, that will do nothing but cost Canadians huge dollars.
  2. When talking about socialism there is no varying degree as per Karl Marx, its nothing more than a transition between capitalism, and communisim.
  3. So.....now that you'vr solved torontos problem, whay about the western world where mass trasit isn't viable, and walking to work would take 12 hours, not to mention the loss of farm production, which would send the world into a major famine. Yep well thought out green policy. I'll tell you why caol and oil have not been phased, its the amount of energy concentrated per unit, there is nothing else that has that much concentrated energy that the general public is able to consume.
  4. That is the beauty of speaking in absolutes as Churchill did in this instance. Its about simplicity of communication. In one sentence we are able to see both the positive and negative of both isms. This sentence brings the debate to a simple choice. Which would you prefer the security of knowing that you will be just the same as everybody else and brought down to the same common denominator, or take the risk? A risk that could provide you with great reward in your life, what ever you deem that to be. This statement does indeed to justice to the debate, it frames it.
  5. And what do you know of the tar sands? Have you ever seen Northern Alberta, have you been to Ft. Mac? What health cost I would bet the air quality is better at the tar sands then it is in downtown toronto. What enviornemental cost? You are you refering to returning soil that will actual grow and sustain plant life, which it wouldn't before the tar was taken out. Before we started removing the tar, it was naturally flowing down the river. So please do lecture me on my own back yard.
  6. NO I don't think that Alberta can continue on its path. I just think that its funny having the rest of the country tell Alberta what to do when a few other provinces are begging for transfer payments instead of controlling their spending, it just bugs me, that I am expected to fund their social programs but can't vote in their provincial elections, it amounts to taxation without representation.
  7. There is an easy fix let the economy correct itself, that's what a recession is. But please do spend us into another depression with excesssive unneeded social spending.
  8. "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." Winston S. Churchill
  9. How much union interference was invovled surely the government, markets and CEO's are all that can be blamed. GM, Ford, and Chrysler suffer at the hands of a far to powerful union, that will even dictate to the companies which vehicles will be manufactured in which plants.
  10. I would think that you would understand something about the hord. If you are that out numbered it doesn't matter what weapon you have you will lose. The link that you posted about where and when bombs fell, showed a lot of collateral damage but the civilian wasn't the target. Most of the targets where comand, control and communication. Some targets were probably miss identified. That being said NATO and the UN did nothing to help the situtation in serbia, there was a lot of back ground politics, and very little peace to keep, but hindsight is 20-20.
  11. Language please...... In Rawanda, was hardly any troops, they did not have the numbers to stop it, they barely had enough to man the post.
  12. Recessions are part of the economic cycle, they will always happen, as the market does need to correct and renew itself ever so often. No government can do anything to prevent a recession, if you believe otherwise....
  13. Change to give more power to a minority and condemn governments to the minority coalitions like Germany were fringe element hold the balance of power and push their will on the majority of the nation, no thanks. I have no desire to live under that tyranny. You have yet to provide a single good argument for why the system needs to be changed except to favour the cause of you fringe ideas. Change for the sake of change is never a good reason. Take the advise laid out throughout this thread pick a couple of ridings you can possibly win and focus all of your effort their, or better yet ignore good advise and stay on the fringe. I would love to see the greens stay there anyway.
  14. No what I'm saying is that system we have is the best possible and fringe parties that do the hard work organize and focus, on whats winnable build themselves. Those that don't will forever languish on the side lines, because they do not how to get teir message to resonate with the majority.
  15. So how do you cut taxes by levying a new one? This doesn't make sense.
  16. I don't know if you are aware of this or not but the length and severity of the depression can be contributed in part back to the New Deal policies of FDR. As these policies did not allow for a quick market correction, his policies dragged that correction out over many years.
  17. I don't pay taxes for a government to tinker in the economy, I pay taxes for infrastructure, policing, national defence, and some social policy. The government has no business handling the economic system, the should only have some regulatory oversite. I think I know why and what type you are tring to elect and I;m sorry, I don't need their intustion into my business life or economic portflio. I am capable of educating myself and making my own decsisions. How about you do you need the nanny state?
  18. There is no secret agenda. Why do types harp on and on about, it is very tiresome. I think I'm going start ending every post with the secret left wing conspiracy.
  19. So did martin and the liberals infact the liberals even raided the EI surpluses.
  20. Why does everything in this country require government interference? I tired of this attitude what is the government going to do. All this centralized planning must be stopped.
  21. Why bwould oue provincial government have to cut more than others? We are not in deficit spending.
  22. Where did that change come from, it wasn't the liberals
  23. The current system is very democratic. Fringe parties stay on the fringe. Those that are willing to do the hard work get seat like the NDP and the reform party did.
  24. The election wasn't illegal, if you recall I posted the fixed election date bill in the thread about this. It proved that it was still within the PM's right to ask the gg to disolve parliment.
