Next President: Barack Obama
Alta4ever replied to Mortui's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
No I don't think Palin will walk into the Whitehouse, it might be 8 years, it might only be 4 but it won't be Palin. Congress will return to the Gop in two years it will be a slight majority. They have two years to rebuild and find the core of the party again. -
Obama, Harper, and Afghanistan

No more troops, the other members can step up, or they can send the troops that they are withdrawing from Iraq. While we need to be there due to current Canadian military levels we have as many troops over there as is possible for our country at this time. -

No he was infavour of supporting the Americans. He said nothing about troop commitments. I'm glad we haven't gone through the same revolution that America has, we don't need a rock star who can memorize a speech, we need people who can formulate real policy. The last thing we need is another Trudeau. -

without the glow of Democratic candidate, and a bush in the whitehouse people will stat to pay attention to what is going on in the congress and they won't like what they see. The dems will be punished look at the congress approval ratings now, it won't change. In 2010 they will loose their majority, history tells the story. -

That would make him stupid, and harper is not a stupid man, he will not call an election on his own, because he knows that the conservatives would loose big, and you know this. -

No it was the economy, his polling numbers dropped at the begining of the economic crisis. Palin brought the base together had it not been for her it would have been an huge blow out not 3 to 4% of the popular vote that it was. -

It may traditional be linked to money bills but they can make anything a confidence matter. -

' He won't call the election, the fact that a confidence motion has been voted down would place the onus squarely on the opposition parties. Unless he ignored it like Paul Martin did, and continued to cgovern without confidence. I would just imagine what you would say then. Your little spin doesn't reflect how the masses think. -

If thats the case I hope virtually every bill is a confidence bill, becasue the libs would be pounished in an election before May if the were preceived to bring down the government. If they are the party with the choice after the bloc and the NDP have made their position known, the general public will blame the libs. You know it I know it, thats why you are spinning it. -

I disagree, the policies that are announced in the speech from the throne are key to the Conservatives mandate. Its time for the opposition to negociate with the governement not the other way around. The oppoosition holds no power right now, if they force an election its on the oppositions heads not the conservatives. We have seen what sending legislation to the commitees does, it guts it stalls it or completely rewrites it. Its time for the liberals to swallow their pride realise that they do not speak for all Canadians, dump this holier then thou art attitude re-build their party into a true populist party again. The attitude has got to go, or they will become nothing less then a group of sniveling whiners. -

I don't think the conservatives drew a line in sand and said they wouldn't support the bill, then only send a few token MPs to vote against it after it was determined how many could be safely sent so the bill wouldn't fail. -

We don't know what Harper would have said, but we do know that the CPC tried on numerious occasions to bring down the Liberal minority government. -

A key plank is a key plank and I hope they do ram it through parliment. The liberals have already started playing games so bring them on the conservatives have broad shoulds and can takew being called bullies, its time to stop spoon feeding Quebec and the three large urban areas. Let them choke on the fact that they don't know what is best for the rest of Canada, and that Canada doesn't revovle around Quebec, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. -

If Harper forced an election the cons would be booted from office. It must be the opposition that does it to decimate the liberals. -
