So would you like the state to take away your home its within their right. If you study British History you would find that the monarch could take land from its citizens this is the History of British Common and this all started with the Magna Carta. What is it that scares you about having the right to own property and the government not having the right to take it away from an act of parliment. In this country we are one house of commons vote and one senate vote on a bill that nationalizes all property. In other words everything you have worked for can be taken away from you in a instant, and be left with nothing but want the state determines it will provide you with. To me this is a very scary prospect. I think you should go and read a little on the founding documents of this country and the history of British common law, you would come away very surprised at what you will find.

They are still Canadian and should be considered Canadian first they should have pride for immigrating and become part of our rich history, but this is just not the case because understanding what it is to be Canadian is not part of the immigration process, so what happens is they bring their entire set of traditions from their country and relate that to being Canadian. This just isn't the case, some of that should be left behind, and the good parts of the tradition be absorbed into Canadian culture. Without the ability to do this we just import the problems. What are we if we don't know where our country and culter comes from and how do we know where we are going. The multiculter platitues are just an empty shell. Why do you this immigrants are always something eles first and Canadian second? Chinese Canadian, Dutch Canadian, ect. not Canadian - Chinese, Canadian-Dutch, ect? We have really lost something and if you look around Canadian cities you will find that these groups segrate themselves in areas of the cities. This is not multi-culteralism, it is self imposed segragation.

Harpers policies are dictated by the polcies of the CPC which are dictated by the grassroots of the party, all policy comes from the members, is voted on by the members, and approved by the members. The CPC is the only party in Canada that has this bottom up approach. The rest all dictate policy from the top down. So while you may not like the policy comming from the CPC, it is infact comming directly from the citizens of the country, not the elites.

Trudeau was against private ownership, he thought the state should own your land, that is why there are not any property rights in the constitution. There is no such thing as a new Canadian Identity, our historty is part of who we are with out that all we have is I"M NOT AMERICAN I HATE AMERICANS. To me thats not much of an identity. I like knowing that our countries historical roots lay in a virtually ignored French Colony, that really had no value until the English took interest. From there the country built itself on the principals of English common law, and did amazing things, like the building of the longest railroad to cement its territory, defending itself from the American threat to the South to the emergence on the global seen with the taking of Vimy Ridge. At one point we had the third largest Navy in the world. No matter what these are a part of our identity and with out recognising these we deny ourselves, our country, and our traditions. No matter where you go in the world you will find that they can never escape their history, their identity. These things cannot just be manufactured.

Socialism is an ideology where private ownership is discouraged or outlawed. Government or society is in ownership of all resources and industry operates under a form of public ownership or nationalization. In the teaching of Marx it was a short period between the transformation from Capitalism to communism. Or in the case of progressives and older liberals(Woodrow Wilson, and Mussolini) the stepping stone to facism. What socialism has become around the world is a set of feel good interventionist policies, from people who think that little give in their freedoms will protect society from itself. Socialism has become a kind of charity for causes that could not get broad public support. Socialism is the government tring to creat fairness and equality (trying to end class struggle) , but in the end is far from equitable for all invovled, it drags us all down to lowest common denominator.

It sure can effect the economy, look at the great depression the New Deal spending and intervetion turn a bad recession into a horrible depression. The key is to find what policies where the major contributors to a specific down turn. For instance the current US recesson can be traced all the way back to the Clinton adminstration, when the laws regarding lending in the US changed, and then you also have to look at the failed legislation from the Republican party that would have placed more regulation on the lenders and stopped the problem before it had started if not for Barney Frank and the House Democracts blocking the legislation. Usually down economic down turns can be traced accross more then one government or administration, but the general public neither has the time nor the want to do this they look for the easy victim to pin this on.

I undstand what you are saying but the main problem is some of the social programs are destructive, others are unnessary as there are publicly funded charities that do a better job, and then their are the ones that are abused and of no use. Then we have the social programs that benefit us, and our country. This is what we need to address, we also must respect provincial jursidiction for these. Why should those in BC, Alberta, and Ont fund the social policies of the other provinces through wealth transfers? That is taxation with out representation. We also have to able to fund these programs, and there is only so much money that can be spent, and that comes at the detriment of other government spending or tax increases. These are the balances that a government must walk and right know what I understand about most LIBERALS is that they are more interested in buying votes with programs that do very little for anybody. In otherwords they are bribing us with our own tax money money, without regard to the economy, or the regional implications of such policies.
