Latest BC Polling Results (Dec 9/04)

You forget this is Canada not the US. How Campbell ever got elected I'll never understand. Oh that's right the smeared trumpted up charges against Glen Clark that never materialised. -
Latest BC Polling Results (Dec 9/04)

If someone has the regional breakdowns please post them. -
A couple of voters my ass. The vast majority of Canadians want gun control and the gun registry. You have to have a dirver's licence to drive a car, so what is wrong with registering your weapons? I hate to break it to ya, but this is not the Roy Rogers Tom Mix, Gene Autry and Tonto era any more. I never hear any valid resons not to have these gun control and gun registry programs.

The New Democrats have no newspapers, no radio stations, and no TV stations that back them them because they are all controlled by Conservative and/or Liberal interests. Whenever New Democrats suggest looking after the less privileged they are called "commies" In spite of all the odds being stacked against them, New Democrats still manage to form governments in BC. How come? Maybe ordinary BCers can relate to them and their aspirations for our province.

Is Globe & Mail Going Way Of Do-Do Bird?
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I have heard that the National Post, for all intense and purposes, is bankrupct. It is being kept afloat by the Van Sun advertising, etc. Apart from having to fire inappropriate journalists recently there is not much of a market in Canada for what they are pitching. They would have been better off in the US, Israel or Russia. There is some talk of the Toronto Star expanding into the Vancouver area - they would do well here. -

Say what you like about them but the people of Saskatchewan and Manitoba are very happy with their current New Democratic governments, as they keep on re-electing them with majority governments. No one can say that about Ottawa, eh! By the way I heard that former Liberal Saskatchewan MLA Colin Thatcher was today, once again, denied release from prison. Do you think he is going to get back into politics when he is released in 2008? Maybe he and the Grant Devine government are a few of the reasons why the people in Saskatchewan keep their New Democratic government, eh! -
Liberals 44, up 4 NDP 41, up 3 Greens 12, down 4 After the Vancouver Sun, the Province, all the radio and TV stations pumping for the Campbell Liberals, and the BC Campbell Liberal governemnt spending millions within the past few weeks, on a BC feel good advertising campaign, the Liberals must be quite disappointed and feeling dejected with the results. Strange we never hear the business community complaining about that government waste.

People can keep on ranting about the cost but it is a done deal - the money has been spent and whining about it is not going to return it. We need to move onto issues of substance here, instead of all this right wing mumbo-jumbo, for the sake of a couple of pissed off hunters, who are probably members of the Fraser Institute. NO ONE IS TAKING AWAY YOUR FRIGGIN' GUNS!!!

The issue is dead - Galloway has seen the light and withdrawn his motion.

Just as an aside. It is important that Erik Kierans be remembered. He is an unsung hero of the Quiet Revolition in Québec, which would probably have been an economic fiasco had it not been of him. Thanks to the Irish; they helped make Québec what it is today! He was responsible for assisting Rene Levesque in departing the Liberal Party. I wonder where Eric ended up on Canada's list of 100 top Canadians.

Sex Education Under Attack In Canada
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Let's leave the teaching up to the teachers, people who are professsional educators, that have been trained in educational matters. Healthy parents support teachers, not attack them at every opportunity. Parents are happy to support professional athletes wages, yet they won't support decent wages for teachers. Parents need to clue into what their own personal value systems are teaching their children. A good teacher teaches children to think for themselves, and if they are able to impart at least that, they have done a great service to the student. What's wrong with the following picture? Parents Go on Strike, Move to Front Yard -
NDP Balance Budgets Better Than Tories Or Liberals
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In the Ottawa Citizen on Nov 12, 2003, Page A16, columnist Rusan Riley wrote an article with the headline: "News Flash: New Democrats really are fiscally responsible". Here is an excerpt: I know this comes as quite a shock to a lot of you but facts are facts. I think I'll take this Ottawa Citizen's reporter's point of view over some right winger slaging their party line. Canada sure has a lot of myths don't you think? -
Sex Education Under Attack In Canada
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is all fine and dandy to put your heads in the sand and act like HIV/AIDS and other STDs don't exist. No wonder schools have to intervene to help the children with sex education. Thank goodness for our professional educators who are living in the real world. -
Black Sea Intrigue The consequences here are much more serious than perhaps a lot of us realize.

Viktor Yushchenko was poisoned. It is no longer up for debate. This should assure him of a resounding victory in the next vote.

NDP balances budgets better than Tories or Liberals It's good to be able to put out to pasture some more Canadian political mythology with these factual statistics. The union movement really needs to get their own TV station going representing ordinary Canadians, to help offset a lot of the capitalistic nonsense being sprouted by the mainstream media.

Proportional representation
maplesyrup replied to fellowtraveller's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Like equal health care for all, the majority of Canadians if they are not there already there, will soon be demanding a solid proportional representation voting system in Canada, as proposed by Jack Layton and Ed Broadbent, in order to have a fair and real democratic voting system in Canada. -
Canada's False Security Alarms

And we worry about security in Canada - give us a break, eh! Files detailing Musharraf's security found on road; probe on : -
Article Sometimes it feels that way, especially if one spent too much time listening to the Harperites!

Proportional representation
maplesyrup replied to fellowtraveller's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
New Democrats are self interested, but what party isn't? Liberals and the Conservatives are exhibiting self interest when they oppose PR. Do you think the federal Liberals would allow a candidate like Mary Polak who ran for the BC Campbell Liberals in a supposedly safe Liberal riding, and got trounced recently by the New Democrats, would be allowed to run for the federal Liberals. I think NOT! The question is wherther one is a real democrat or NOT! -
Proportional representation
maplesyrup replied to fellowtraveller's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why are you afraid a real democracy that the Layton/Broadbent NDP promotes, instead of the FPTP pseudo-democracy that often effectively disenfranchises up to 60% of the voters in Canada? For a thorough understanding of the issues involved: fairvotecanada.org That is if you believe in fairness. Lots of people mouth the word democracy, but actually only pay lip service to it.
