  1. Make fun of this idea all you want but before too much longer we will have knife control in Canada. We are a little behind the times. There is no reason for most people to walk around with a knife.
  2. Each knife blade could have a serial number engraved into it, so it would be easy to register the knives. The incidents of knife attacks are high enough to warrant knife control.
  3. A lot of violent crime is done with knives as well as guns, and we need to get them off the streets too. Knives should have serial numbers on them, and the purchaser or owner of a knife should have to register them. Now that we have basically addressed the gun issue, it is time for some government legislation on the knife issue.
  4. Well he is still in the media business I see. So much for the US anti-terrorism forces in dealing with this guy as he is still running around making videos, tapes, etc. Alleged Bin Laden Tape Criticizes Saudi
  5. Charge laid against cop linked to investigation that led to legislature raid I wonder where this is all leading to.
  6. Tory Article It was only a matter of time before this situation was going to occur. Are all three of these contenders for the throne from the PC side of the merger? I wonder if Belinda, now having had some exposure to the House of Commons, will be able to wrestle control of the party leadership away from Harper.
  7. - from Mustel Group Party / Sep '04 / Oct '04 / Dec '04 / Change NDP: 37%, 39%, 43% up 6% Liberals: 43%, 45%, 40%, down 3% Greens: 10%, 12%, 8%, down 2% Reform B.C.: 4%, 2%, 2%, down 2% Other: 6%, 3%, 7% This is a change of 9% between the New Democrats and the Liberals in the New Democrats favour since both Sep 04 and Oct. 04.
  8. I am trying to remember now as sometimes it is hard to keep up. Was it 2 years ago that Campbell got busted for a DUI offence? Was it last year that the RCMP raided the BC Legislature which could implicate both federal and provincial Liberals? Yesterday the No 2 person in the BC Campbell Liberals government, Finance Minister Gary Collins quit following the recent resignation of previous No 2 person, former Deputy Premier Christy Clark. Today there are rumours out that a new BC opinion poll is about to be released showing that the Carole James' New Democrats are now in the lead. And there are more rumours floating around that additional charges are going to be laid next week, in connection to the police raids on the BC legislature, which involved Basi getting dumped. What kind of a mess do we have going here in BC? Are these police raids and the aftermath of what is yet to come, the real reasons that both Clark and Collins have bolted from the Liberal party? And what are the implications for the federal Liberals as well, as Basi was a key Paul Martin organizer? Shades of the Devine Conservatives anyone?
  9. The NHL players have now been shut out for 90 days, with 414 games not played so far. Is it now time for Ottawa to intervene and help to resolve the deadlock between the players and the owners? After all, Canadians love their hockey!
  10. But we have a multi-party system, and have had one for a long time. We have four and maybe we will have five parties soon. FPTP is not working for Canadians.
  11. Taxation is probably the most contentious issue. Whether or not Canada is, or is in danger of becoming a plutocracy is a good subject to explore.
  12. Police when they are called to deal with a domestic dispute can now get details if there are any firearms located at the residence. If there are registered guns there the police will decide upon their course of action accordingly. And no the system is not perfect, but what system is. Police use the system regardless of what the gun fanatics say.
  13. Another Gun Mythology Myth bites the dust. WHO ARE THE RESPONSIBLE SHOOTERS? Kinda shoots to crap the nonsense about all these law-abiding gun owners, eh!
  14. Let's put it this way: Liberals in 2000 got 41% of the vote and 173 seats out of 301 seats. Liberals in 1997 got 38% of the vote and 155 seats out of 301 seats. Liberals in 1993 got 41% of the vote and 177 seats out of 295 seats. All majority governments.
  15. Conservatives will probably give Harper one more kick at the can, before they ask him to move on.
  16. Karzai rejects claims that Bin Laden trail has gone cold All sorts of rumours have been flying around but none of them seem to have any substance. Why can't this fellow be found or do you think he is already dead? Osama bin Laden not caught in Pakistan: official US is forced to abandon hunt for bin Laden Islamabad Denies CIA Has Set Up Bases to Hunt for Bin Laden Mr. Bush, where's Osama bin Laden?
  17. SES Research 1,000 Canadians, +/- 3.1%, 19/20 Party Liberals: 41% Conservatives: 26% New Democrats: 17% Bloc: 11% Green: 6% Best choice for PM PM Martin: 35% Harper: 17% Layton: 14% Duceppe: 9% This is a standard size poll, and it is interesting to note that all the leaders are less popular than their parties, Harper particularly so, and if one takes into consideration the poll's margin of error, Layton is tied with Harper amongst Canadians for their choice of leader.
  18. Apparently Kerik's problems were a little more extensive. There will be some details in the press Monday morning. How they could have recommended this guy in the first place, is a bit unusual, unless he wasn't upfront about his background.
  19. You are missing the point of the gun registry. The goal is to have zero deaths of course although we will never prevent them all. Part of that process is to have a good check on the people before they get a gun. We need to find out where the gun came from, whether it was registered to the shooter, and what were the details of his screening process. They couple recently had split up and there is a spousal notification aspect to the licensing process.
  20. Good thing we have the gun registry, or something real bad could have happend. Common MS, you keep giving us tragic events but never telling us what the gun registry did, except well FAIL. The public as far as I know has no details about the incident. Was it an illegal gun - do you know?
  21. Who do you think is doing the screening? Do you have any idea what the screening costs are? You have to thoroughly check out an individual, whereas to register a firearm you record a few details. The screening process involves brain work, the firmarm registration is basically data entry. It is obvious that screening costs substantially more.
  22. That is not true - It is all one and the same system. The gun registry is gun control and includes the screening process. The current screening process has been changed from what the process was before.
  23. Will he be the new Joe Who? PM Martin is going to have to pull up his socks if he wants to get more support. He is going to have to start keeping his campaign promises for one thing.
  24. Tzeporah has actually tried to protect the environment and BC forests for future generations by taking a long term approach to forestry management. These are issues that are extremely important to BCers. Nothing is black and white like you try to paint it, as employment is essential as well. Working together is the key. Tzeporah has a huge following in the Green party as she really walks the talk. I would presume she is a lot more popular than the Green leader, so this is going to get interesting. I believe we will see more and more of these defections from Green party supporters as we approach the BC election next May. The Greens have a lot of good ideas but they cannot defeat Gordon Campbell in the next election. Is there still time for the BC Liberals to dump Campbell? I hear Christy Clark is just itching to get in there and take over! Wouldn't it be nice to have some form of PR so the Greens supporters could support their party? I will be supporting the STV proposal from the Citizen's Assembly in the May referendum.
