  1. Gasp! You think that when debt goes up so do asset values and other economic values? Shocking!
  2. 1) Germany, with 80 million people, fits into Alberta, which has about 4 million. So spare us the BS of urban sprawl is bad nonsense. 2) When the US may become 450 million by 2100 it is ridiculous for Canada to remain at 36 million. We should probably aim for 100 million which means net pop growth of, gasp, 1.02% per year.
  3. Agreed smallc. While I'd prefer that churches/mosques/synagogues marry gays and treat women equally we have a constitution that says that in their house they can do that shit. In return, I'd prefer that they not get property tax exemptions, housing allowances for clergy, and income tax breaks but, meh, whatevs. As long as we make it clear that their shit is not acceptable in the real world (I.e. outside their temples) then I can live with this awful compromise.
  4. Agreed. However, I'm going to assume by your name you are too busy preparing for a meteorite strike and have not heard the news: Trump is no statesman.
  5. I appreciate the fact that Trump only used the word "god" (lowercase) once in his victory speech. Yes, I know he is a terrible atheist who worships himself, but not thanking god for his victory is good, in my books. 6. Still working on the second book of the Kushiel Legacy series but the first one is very good. Currently, noticed I still had $89.44 on a gift card from Amazon so, for an extra 26 cents, bought these books: Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman Overture." It is the prelude to his Sandman series he created back in the 80's: Also bought his latest "Troll Bridge." And the complete "ElfQuest" volume one: And, finally, "The Behavior Gap" by Carl Richards: That book also has cartoons in it that look like this: https://www.behaviorgap.com/blog/ All are a nice change of pace from my usual fare of Audible and Kindle books.
  7. People die; governments live forever.
  8. Not relevant. Private sector debt is $2 trillion if we want to throw out big irrelevant numbers. Context is everything. Federal net debt level is 31%. Not 80% like Germany. Not 100% like the US. Not 140% like Italy. Not 230% like Japan. It is manageable and it is exceedingly stupid to allow our infrastructure deficit to grow while interest rates are so low and the economy has slack.
  9. Trump: I hate illegal immigrants.

    Melania: I hate cyber bullies.

    * look at each other longingly *

    As seen on Twitter.

Trump: She needs Jay-Z to get a crowd at her rally! Listen to that crude disgusting language!

*enjoys Ted Nugent performance at his own rally.*

Yeah, but if you stop bullying, like they have done in Europe, America will become New Jersey.

  10. Just a reminder to those who continue to make the (false) claim: no one is saying to eliminate all currency so to make such claims is partaking in strawman arguments.
  11. She made a statement already: "In recent days, my mother told me for the first time that my sisters and I were in fact born in Mashhad, Iran, approximately 200 kilometres from the Afghan border...." So she has already spoken the truth and that quote is reported from September 22, 2016. Why do people like you lie about stuff like this?
  12. But but but a new born/child/kid should know their birthplace. They should just feel it! Like a Jedi or something. My gawd these forums are growing tiresome with all the stupidity.
  13. Um, Mr "Truddeau" [sic] was not dressed up as TE Lawrence. You can claim all the historical knowledge you want but if you can't grasp the fact that he was dressed as a character from a children's book written in 1943 then, well, .... cue Mr. Sam L. Jackson....
  14. Yes, this is stupid. The Little Prince is only the 4th most translated book ever: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Prince About a pilot who's plane goes down in the Sahara Desert hence the outfit. And other stuff to do with drawing (hat/snake eating an elephant) blah blah blah. IOW: meh, stupid illiterate people and their stupid illiterate threads on this stupid illiterate forum..... [spoken with Samuel L. Jackson's "snakes on a plane" voice]
  15. I suppose people are also lamenting the fewer job opportunities for kids now a days since it ain't easy to get a paper route in this digital age.
  16. Do kids seriously run lemonade stands that earn enough dough to warrant visa's and debit cards? Really? Pretty sure kids will be kids and people will spend their coins on lemonade if only for the sympathy.
  17. Pretty sure the banks have no fee starter accounts to get the kids hooked on 0.0001% interest rates.
  18. If a conservative was a liberal who was mugged then, logically, these women are examples of conservatives who have been sexually harassed so maybe they are liberal?
  19. Well, interesting poll results in this article seem to indicate that maybe we will get some pipelines built under the compromise of carbon taxes. Fine with me: http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/john-ivison-liberals-strategy-of-pipeline-approval-with-carbon-pricing-a-winner-with-voters-poll-suggests
  20. Federal government approves $1.3 B pipeline expansion in AB. Of course, Trudeau is anti-pipeline so this has not happened.

So did the federal government not approve it?

No they approved it. My  is aimed at people like overthere who like to tell us that Trudeau and the Liberals won't allow pipelines when all evidence shows they will.

In fact, with the introduction of a carbon tax we will have a useful compromise that 75% of Canadians are willing to accept: you get some of your pipelines and we get to tax the crap out of fossil fuels to discourage them and encourage renewables.

The CPC/Harper ideologically could not implement this which is why it is useful to have the Liberals do it.

Oh I know that.  You'd swear it weren't the case from the reply above mine.

  21. I should specify that last part about 5 to 8 years is a little joke about shadow stats inflation.
  22. Why wouldn't a kid have a bank account? I had one around 6 or 7 as a means to learn about saving money etc etc. -------------------- There is still going to be cash around. We probably will even still have $50 and $100 bills since inflation should make these the equivalent of tens/twenties within the next five to eight years.
  23. Of course they are not available. Why? Because we need to wait a couple more years to see what actually happens and then another year to gather the stats so we know what happened. I'll wait for that information while you guys speculate endlessly about headlines and what this politician says versus what that politician says.
  24. Doesn't exactly give firm numbers, does it? So it means, what? 15,000 more family class/refugee as compared to previous? If you can tease out the figures then go ahead but I don't think they are available in that terrible article and I know better than to trust a headline. So, again, any stats from a reliable source that is not filtered through by a journalist who likely has doubtful numeracy skills?
  25. Can we get a cite on the stats for the claim that Trudeau has increased family class proportionately more as compared to skill?
