  1. Might as well ask - did Pearl Harbor really happen? Or Hiroshima? I've only seen pictures of Hiroshima just as I have only seen pictures of the Holocaust. I've met Holocaust survivors. Imagine the planning that would have to go into this story if it were just a hoax.
  2. And there is nothing sneaky about it as some seem to suggest. Anybody with a web browser can keep track of PMBs. http://www.parl.gc.ca/common/index.asp?Language=E http://www2.parl.gc.ca/HouseBills/BillsPri...rl=39&Ses=2 http://www2.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/P...p;DocId=3282003
  3. Good points but not radical enough for the abortion debate. Middle of the roaders get pissed on by both sides.
  4. In the US there are states that by virtue of RoevWade have abortion services and also protect the fetus similar to Bill C-484. In NY for example - after the 24th week. The law makes a distinction being the woman freely having an abortion and a murderer killing a fetus she wants to take to term.
  5. The bill states that the woman has a right to an abortion. That is an addition to Benoit's original bill.
  6. It's even worse than that. margrace has not read the bill. But notwithstanding that decided to start a thread based on ignorance.
  7. We have had two abortions in our family. Both for medical reasons. The problems were discovered in the 14-16th week, the abortions took place 2-3 weeks later. I think you need to give the woman 20 weeks to make up her mind. After that there could be parameters established for access to abortion.
  8. No. There have been no legal restrictions on abortion since 1988. However, hospitals and doctors may choose not to perform late term abortions or, for that matter, any abortions at all.
  9. C-484 is a diluted version of a previous bill sponsored by Leon Benoit. That bill was ruled out of order and called unconstitutional by former Justice Minster Vic Toews. This bill, with many amendments, is its successor. Since he has been PM Harper has rung out from the CPC any vestiges of the old Reform Party. The CPC is now the old PC Party with a new name. He would have no interest in trying to sneak a bill like C-484 through.
  10. I don't see any testing of the waters. Harper stomped on the anti-abortion crowd in the policy convention of 2005 and had a farcical resolution that would have "reviewed" SSM. Stevie Wonder is not looking for socon votes. He wants to take them from Liberals.
  11. Dems are known as protectionist. So it will be a rough ride for NAFTA and other such deals if the Obama makes it to the WH. Might even be worse with Hilly there. She thinks Canada is full of terrorists waiting to jump into the US. free trade
  12. What the bill says is that the fetus is not an independent life. If the woman wants to gets rid of it (which in Canada means at any time) she can. But if she wants to keep it it becomes a crime to harm it.
  13. http://www2.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/P...1&File=24#1 Even though abortions are clearly excluded it is not expected to pass. Too touchy for many MPs this close to a possible election. Two women are walking to an abortion clinic. One goes in and has an abortion. The other is hit by a cyclist in an intersection. She falls down and miscarries. The cyclist could be charged under this bill.
  14. Remember Dawson. There was an armed police officer there on business when the shooting started. How many more would have been dead if he hadn't been there to take the gunman on? gunman
  15. Where in the constitution does it say that Parliament cannot enact legislation such as the CHRA with respect to Indian reserves. If the CHRA cannot apply to Indian reserves why was it necessary to exclude them? Indian reserves do not constitute a third level of government equal to the federal government and the provinces.
  16. Simple, by Parliament amending the CHRA. One can use all the arguments we want about aboriginal nations but they are citizens of Canada and are subordinate to Parliament. If Parliament can't impose the CHRA on them I suppose you could argue there are lots of other laws they can't impose on them either.
  17. I expect we will diddle around. The moment of course we recognize Kosovo Duceppe will claim it as a precedent and Quebecers will hear all about in the next election.
  18. What you would get is plenty of "social agenda" (ie, more government spending) but no fear of anything that might be called "conservative".
  19. Dion has already said they will vote on the budget. They already look like idiots continuing to refuse to vote - like yesterday, a bunch of lemmings traipsing over the cliff. Dion knows if he refuses to vote on the budget, the most important of all issues, he will become a laughing stock - if he isn't already. They will vote on the budget - they might even support it. Certainly the Dips and Blocs won't.
  20. I thought blacks had a much higher rate of abortion than whites to the point that it has become a big problem in the US.
  21. I don't think the Libs want to defeat the government on Afghanistan, too messy; that why, IMO, they will pull the pin on the budget.
  22. Conservative. They get in, the Libs and NDP get to dump their leaders and perhaps elect people worth voting for.
  23. I'm not on any kind of a hunt. I gave up religion a long time ago after I could see no purpose in it. Both Islam and Christianity are noted as being violent.
  24. Islam was invented 600 years after Christianity. Think of Muslims being what Christians were like in the 16th century - Reformation, Inquisition, execution of clergy (the English countryside was strewn with RC priests swinging from the gallows), torture.
