To me the most important thing about religion is that people keep their views to themselves and don't try to proselytize others. The last thing the NDP wants is to have reserves covered by the CHRA. That way they would find that discrimination exists there as it does everywhere else. I read a story recently where an employee of a reserve tried to file a complaint against the new chief. He has fired all the old staff and replace them with his family members. The CHRC had to decline the complaint - no jurisdiction.

It was for supplemental health care insurance - not for drugs like many people have but to provide coverage in the US when there are delays in getting treatment in Canada - like the nine months I had to wait for eye surgery. And more and more in Canada we are forced to send patients to the US since our own system has broken down. We clearly need to debate health care delivery but the NDP with its simplistic approach that more government intervention can cure anything (no pun intended) is not helpful. We need to carve out the public/private balance that works best for us as they have done in Europe. Many socialists talk about France as the nirvana for health care or get misty eyed when speaking of the British National Health Service. In both these countries private health care operates alongside the public system. I used to work in the US for a Canadian company. The biggest problem in getting Americans to come to Canada to work in the head office was the fear of getting sick and getting inferior health care.

A comment on the music. It's so bizarre you really have to wonder if it's a legitimate party commercial at all. Not only Russian - but an opera to boot. Because the NDP approaches health care from a purely ideological point of view the blended systems found in Europe cannot even be examined as options for Canada. So the only thing they can do is promise more spending.

The Canadian Senate is not democratic. Unfortunately, there is no consensus as to whether to democratize it or scrap it. My preference is the latter. It's not quite life - until they are 75. In the US politicians can be impeached, perhaps the equivalent in a crude way of "no-confidence".

In the Parliamentary system the government is responsible to Parliament and if the government loses the confidence of the House then the GG either appoints another party to form a government or there is an election. I think it works well. We have a minority House but it is over two years since an election and I don't see the Dionites anxious to force one at this time. In the US there are Congressional elections every two years which are more frequent than is the case in Canada.

Just a lot of promises as you get from other parties. In fact it has so little content to it that when you add that creepy music you wonder if it is not a spoof.

I can't answer that question. There were Jews in my classes in Jr High, High School and College. I hung around with them. And I work with Jews. In fact the business associate right now I am closest too - we are confidants - is Jewish

I work with them, have a drink with them, do some socializing. I don't regard that as "breaking ice". I do the same with people of other religions too.

I understand that every effort is being made to prevent Canadain authorities from having any access to info about Canadian posters. Censorship is alive and well in Canada as we see from the efforts made to silence Macleans and Ezra Levant. I agree. My comment was that Jews tend to socialize with one another. That does not mean that they are isolationists. All through my life I have associated with Jews. In my classes, in the workplace. I have hoisted pints with Jewish guys, screwed Jewish girls, had dinner with Jews in their homes. (Even once asked for milk with a meat dish. ) As I also said: And that is one of Judaism's great strengths.

I have lived most of my adult life in Jewish neighborhoods and I have noticed that Jews tend to socialize with one another. I have noticed that the same is true of Greeks, Italians and Portuguese. I have also noticed that Jews adapt well to the majority community while retaining their own religious and cultural traditions. Jews, when their religion is attacked, work within the social framework to seek redress. I'm not aware of anti-Jewish cartoons resulting in burning and looting and killing.
