  1. And the crown has acquiesced. Ahenakew has disgraced and destroyed himself far better than by anything the State can bring to bear. But pressure from Jewish groups has resulted in a re-trial for a case whose penalty the first time round was a $1000 fine.
  2. Good political position. You will find many MPs who agree that the complaint against Steyn is ridiculous but who will not want to throw out a provision that catches neo-Nazis:- ergo, amend 13(1) to tighten it up.
  3. The real issue here, of course, is not the CTV headline writer's feelings about the motion getting Stormfront's support, but whether or not Section 13(1) of the CHRA should be repealed due to its alleged misuse by Richard Warman and others to advance their own political ends.
  4. Section 13(1) of the Canadian Human Rights Act is the section being used by a Muslim group in filing a complaint against Mark Steyn for an article in Macleans. It has also been used by lawyer Richard Warman in pursuing numerous "hate message" complaints. MP Keith Martin has introduced a private member's motion into the House of Commons to rescind the section of the CHRA.
  5. The nicest thing about this is that Canada has had the gonies to recognize the conference for what it is - an opportunity for the Islamist extremists to denounce Israel. We would never have taken this position if the Liberals were still governing.
  6. The UN is a sewer. You would expect better from Louise Arbour a former Justice of the SCOC. But even she was seduced into the "Zionism is a form of racism" rhetoric. The only reason she backed down is because of the hue and cry about it.
  7. We attended the 2001 conference that degenerated into anti-Semitic ranting. At that one we tried to inject common-sense into the process. It didn't work. Why will the next conference be any different?
  8. Comment from a friend of mine, a mid-school teacher in rural Georgia, USA. Her class is 1/3 black, most of whom get free school lunches.
  9. What will happen is this: the curriculum will be too narrowly focused, they won't get the best teachers and there will be pressure to move students to a higher grade for "social reasons". This latter happens all the time in the US. And employers will be suspicious of those who come from black-focused schools. Better would have been to keep the kids in the regular school and make a "black studies" program optional for students, just like "religion" was optional for my daughter in school.
  10. Phone calls from banks telling me they want to manage my money - hell, I wouldn't open a checking account at CIBC, let alone invest in their GICs.
  11. Views of one group. (more) http://canadiancoalition.com/forum/messages/27979.shtml
  12. I think we all remember the fiasco in Durban. It turned into a anti-Israel rant with the US pulling out. Since then the UN has supposed to have cleaned up its "human rights" act but with Libya and Cuba running the show it will just be déjà vu all over again.
  13. As they say, there is no free lunch. Ethanol as a fuel comes at a very high price.
  14. Look what our attraction to alcohol as an alternative fuel is doing to alcohol prices. Windshield washer fluid (last year less than two bucks) is now five dollars or more at most gas stations.
  15. Different circumstances of course. As revolting as the decision about bibles is I don't think it will result in a boycott. More likely it will cause a fuss and PRC will back down.
  16. What is he suggesting? Legislation prohibiting the athletes from attending?
  17. So CBC stands for the Chinese Broadcasting Corporation. But cheez it's already been on the CBC - in both English and French. Bit late for them to start dropping their drawers.
  18. Here's an opportunity for the new President of the CBC to do a big time clean-up and rid the network of people who would kow-tow like this.
  19. We will never have constitutional reform - which is needed because of the geographic imbalance of Senators. However, if Harper can convince some provinces to at least elect Senators it will help with the Senate's credibility.
  20. In the US the UAW has made concessions to the auto companies to cut costs - eg, two-tier wages. Buzz has said he won't along. Uh-huh?
  21. Buzz has already done his thing for the working man. He made a deal with Magna where they lose the right to strike.
  22. Okay. I would rather live in Italy to Pakistan, or Saudi Arabia.
  23. I lived in the UK for many years. Soccer riots represent their "values" about as much as fighting in hockey represents Canadian values.
  24. I think it is the ones that are NOT demonstrating Christian virtues that are rioting. But given my choice of living in Christian Italy with its occasional soccer riots and Muslim Iraq with its daily terrorist attacks I will take the former.
  25. Somehow I doubt that the people who riot at soccer matches are "Christians".
