Hmmm, so those aren't automotive parts? Must be used in the manufacture of Microwave Ovens I guess. -
Thats an easy one. "With your hands on your head Or on the trigger of a gun" I'm not saying which way I'd choose to go.

When used in skilled hands it was always known to be an effective weapon, one of the best. It was developed and based on a phylosophy of brutal efficiency in close quaters. Thats why enemy troops would be demoralised and even run. They didn't want to face the Kukri. Its not an urban myth or something, these guys were quiet and stealthy enough to sneak right up to enemy lines in the dark of night and kill their foes silentely. They'd get within a foot or two and feel for the boot laces. Allied troops used a straight lacing patern on their boots, the Axis used a criss cross patern. If you were using the wrong boots you got to die quickly and silently. -

Well you just lost that bet. I do believe that I've said many times that I have good friends who are Native. I believe I've said many times that I try to convince Native people to come work for us. I believe that I've mentioned going to roundups that were on the reserve, invited by Native people. I believe that as I'm typing this I have friends with me and two of them are Blackfoot, and laughing their asses off at what you assume. So I bet you are just pissed off at me for challenging your opinion/facts. These guys aren't too happy with the way you make them look either. For the record, one is a Bigbull and the other is a Daychief. I cant give you their first names but check out Southern Alberta and you'll see that they are legitimate and large famiiles in these parts, lots of Blackfoot here. You should talk to some of them and ask about how much land they inhabited, it doesnt match your version. -

They didn't want to face the Kukri (I dont blame them), it was well known that the Ghurka tradition was to never draw the Kukri unless it tasted blood. Thats why they would cut themselves when they cleaned it. The blade demanded blood each time it was drawn. I always wanted a real Kukri, still do. -
You just made me think of Schmaels Place. It was a Coffeehouse in London On back in the mid seventies. He used to get some very good acts in, mostly folk though. There was another great place I used to go but I've just had a major brain fart and for the life of me I cant remember the name, its right on the tip of my tongue, piss me off. I saw Peter Gabriel do a set there once and they also got guys like FM & Nash The Slash, Asia , Saga (when they first started). It was a great place, what the hell was it called? Arghhhh... Your promoting explains how you know of the Butt Hole Surfers, most people I talk to have never even heard of them.

I'm not sure what taunts you're reffering to. Do you mean when he called you Buttercup? I've never really thought of that as a homosexual taunt. When I was a little boy growing up in Liverpool adults would call a cute baby or toddler girl or boy Buttercup. When I saw that I thought he was actually implying childishness, not homosexuality. I wonder if I'm the only one who thought that?

Even after all these years I still enjoy the Clash, some of their songs were timeless, Police And Thieves, London Calling et al. Right now I'm listening to a mixed playlist, Fat Bottomed Girls, Crew Slut, Godzilla, and so on. Thats one reason I love computers so much, the music options are pretty much endless. I even found a legal site where you can download almost the full catalogue of an obscure artist called Happy Rhoades. Her style is a mixture of Kate Bush and Annie Lennox, she's astounding. The first time I heard her I thought I was listening to some lost recording of the two aforementioned singers, the song was When the Rain came Down, its a very good song. Combine a good sound card like an SB X-FI with speakers like the Klipsch Pro Media Ultras and you get good sound (not Audiophile, but very good nonetheless), or you could just run out to your stereo's inputs. I like to keep my stereo and computer systems seperate though.

So what you are saying is that Gorbachev actually did not start Russia on the road to Capitalism, that the people just stopped supporting Communism? How long does it take you to make this stuff up? Do a little research, then if you feel like talking let me know. Or perhaps you want to tell every historian and analyst that they're wrong when they state the fall of Communist Russia was due to economic reasons, and gorbachev initiated the practise of Capatilistic ways in Russia. You should try Daniels, he's considered the leading authority on this period of history for the Soviet states. If you do you will see that the reason was economic. they had to change, under the old way pretty much everything was subject to shortages, the only way to solve this was to adopt capitalism. Ergo, the fall was actually caused by economic factors, not because people just stopped supporting it. So, would you like to e-mail Mr. Daniels and tell him just how wrong he is? -
If you listen to the guitar at the beginning of MIA, Paper Planes it's identical to the guitar at the beginning of The Clash, Straight To Hell. The real difference is that Straight To Hell is a much better song. Too bad that contemporary artists keep lifting the work of others who preceded them.

Strange isn't it. They must be operating on a basis of ignorance, obnoxiousness, or very strong dislike to dispute something so well documented and known. -

Yes, you do that a lot, then try to pass it off as fact. Pretty much everything you post is based on that razor sharp methodology. -

Yes, they were hellishly good troops. Ferocious in battle and unshakably loyal. Stories about them abound and some of them are pretty amazing. -
Al Quaeda No 2. We Don't Kill Innocents
AngusThermopyle replied to AngusThermopyle's topic in The Rest of the World
You stated that Communism in Eastern Europe fell because the people rose up. It did not, spin it any way you want but the fact is that Communism fell because of economic factors. If the Soviets had not become bankrupt the status quo would have continued. Can you say Glasnost and Perastoika? If you don't like it I suggest you start a campaign to revise well recorded events to suit your version. -

I remember it well, it was a pretty exciting time. Don't seem to recall the common folk overthrowing communism though. Must have been sleeping when they showed that one on the news. -

Al Quaeda No 2. We Don't Kill Innocents
AngusThermopyle replied to AngusThermopyle's topic in The Rest of the World
Nonsense. Communism did not collapse because the people rose up against it. Communism collapsed because they engaged in a war they could not win. That was called the cold war, I guess you don't know about that one. Former President Ronald Reagan kept upping the ante on the Soviets. While America with its Capitalist system could maintain and even increase the allocation of resources to this cold war the Soviets could not under their Communist system. The effort to do so basically bankrupted the Soviets and forced them to adopt gradually increasing Capitalistic methods. This is the reason for the gradual failure of Communism in Eastern Europe, not some fanciful revolt by the oppressed. In fact, if you do some research you'll see that it was the Communist government that spearheaded these changes as they were well aware of the fact that they were bankrupt and realized they had to do something about it. -

Actually you really don't understand. Danger Mouse laid out a challenge. He said show one case where people have lied when presenting oral history, or whatever you choose to call it. I did so, simple, nothing to do with jurisdiction or any other fancy dance. In effect he said Natives don't lie under oath, the same farcical premise you have advanced yourself many times. So, tell me, what is so difficult to understand about that? Or are you now merely attempting to divert from the topic of his original challenge. What is really interesting is the fact that I never mentioned whether it was a provincial Supreme Court or federal that passed on this decision. He desperately grasped at any straw he could, much as you do when you attempt to divert and obfuscate in support of your agenda. So, simple really. He challenged and lost. He then refused to acknowledge his error and went on with meaningless insults. Is that clear enough for you? -

Good to see you again DM. I hope this means you're going to continue our discusion. So...where were we? Oh yes, I remember now. We were talking about how Oral history has never been and could never be subverted to acomplish a specific goal. As i recall you challenged myself and anyone else to provide an instance when that had ever happened. So I did. Now, as I remember it. That was the point where you gave up all pretences of an intelligent discusion and reverted to the most basic of attempts at insults. Still you provided no answer ( as in keeping with your blatant modus operandi). So. Got anything semi intelligent to say on the subject now? Take care, I look forward to your well thought out pap in answer. Sincerely yours AT.
