Now thats a coincidence, I've also been building for about 15 years. No way in hell would I ever buy a pre-built machine, its been my experience that for the most part they're pretty sub par unless one goes with a boutique builder. Even then they tend to not be exactly what I want and also tend to get pretty pricey. I agree 100% on Alienware, vastly over rated and silly stupid priced. My current machine cost quite a bit to build but still smokes after about 5 years, you get what you pay for. There are several reasons I'm building a new one when this one is still pretty darn good. I have an itch to play with the new tech, I want to game at 2560 x 1440 with high frame rates and all effects maxed and I just love building these boxes. Some would say I'm going overboard with it, for instance 32 gigs of ram when 16 will do just fine. My answer is why not? Right now 32 gigs of Corsair Vengeance 1866 mhz ram costs $175 so why not? That price isn't prohibitive at all. In case you're interested my preliminary specs are as follows. Proc: Intel i7 3770 K ( This proc runs at 3.5 but will clock up to 4.7 no problem) MB:Asus Maximus Formula ( The board is already set up for liquid cooling of the chipsets) RAM: Corsair Vengeance 1866 XMP 32 gigs Vid: MSI GTX 660 Ti Power Edition x2 (Run in SLI they'll give me great video performance) HD's: OCZ Vertex 128 gig SSD x2 ( Run in Raid 0 as boot/gaming drives) : WD Caviar Black 2TB x2 (Run in Raid 0 for general storage, may go with 3TB though, not sure yet) Sound: Undecided, I may just use the onboard and run it through my TEAC DAC, gotta think about that some more) Case: Cooler Master HAF XM ( A fantastic case with tons of real estate and options) Cooling: Corsair H100 ( Very nice closed loop system with a larges rad and twin fans, should allow me to hit 5ghz plus) PS: Still undecided, with what I plan to run it'll be at least a 1000 watt unit. Thats my tentative build spec, as I said some of it is subject to change though. I already have the vid cards, the case, the SSD's and the cooling system so those are fixed at this point. My big decision will be the Proc since Haswell is set for release next year, it just depends on when next year Haswell will be released. The MB may change as well (it will for sure if I go Haswell) I'm a little undecided on the Asus since there are a few Thunderbolt equipped boards availlable now at pretty good prices. RAM may also change if I go Haswell, at this point I'm not sure what Haswell will require as far as RAM goes. Fun stuff eh! Given all that I'm sure you can see why tablets and other low power devices hold no interest at all for me. It would just be too hard to go from a Ferrari to an Edsel. This is also part of the reason why touch interfaces hold zero interest fo me, all my periphirals are of a same or similar quality to my build components. If anything I'll hold out and see what Windows 9 will bring to the table. Of course there are already work arounds that will allow you to ditch that crappy, garish Metro interface in Win 8 and use an XP, Vista or Win 7 interface instead if you wish. For me I'll continue to run Win 7 and XP on my boxes and Vista on my significant others lap top. Yeah, I know, Vista, but she likes and knows it and it is just a lap top when all is said and done.

By the way, I notice that under my post count it says 5 warning points. Does anyone know what these warning points are? Or how I got them as I hardly post at all anymore? Okay, I found out what they are. They're all from 08, must be like a criminal record, they stick to you for life.

Being a gamer I always build my own machines, as such they generally cost more than a pre built machine. The upside is that I also have far greater power and speed at my disposal, great for video encoding as well as gaming. Curently I'm building a new machine that will run GTX 660 Ti video cards in SLI, have 32 gigs of 1866 ram. liquid cooling and an Ivey Bridge K sku processor, although I may go for a new Haswell proc depending on when they come out next year. Having said that I'll stay with Win 7 on my new box. I have no desire at all to use an interface designed for touch use. Of further concern is the apparent desire by Microsoft to garden wall Win 8 so that applications like steam will not work with it. Win 7 is a good OS, no need to change until Win 9 arrives, if then.

What really surprised me about this list is that Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino are not on it yet actors like Mat Damon, Kevin Costner and Collin Farrel are. As with most lists its highly subjective I Suppose.

Gotta agree. This sounds like a blueprint for the stuff you see posted in the Aboriginal Issues section of Rabble. Just way too vague and lacking in the credibility department for my taste.

Anti Pipeline Teaching Materials in BC
AngusThermopyle replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
My link Here you go. This article is'nt specific to Africa but rather deals with the control of Malaria in rural area's. However a quick Google will bring up a plethora of like articles, many specific to Africa. DDT has saved many many lives on that continent. As I'm sure you already know, Malaria is a terrible disease with no known cure once contracted. Only controls are availlable once one has it. -

So is it your contention that the lives saved in Africa were'nt worth it because of the birds? -
I do believe you are confusing Harris with Klien, he gave street people bus tickets to Vancouver. As I've mentioned before we live just outside of Cookstown, about 10-15 minutes from Barrie and Bradford. Most of my life I've lived in one city or another. Moving out of the city or town is the best thing I ever did. If I had to I guess I'd live in a city or town again but it would have to be a last resort sort of option.

Well I just read through the entire thread and found a great many irrelevancies being voiced by both sides of this debate. What I find interesting is that only one person mentioned a point that I find to be of a particularly germaine nature. That is the public calls for the murder of another. Is this not illegal? The reason I ask is because I'm not sure if such actions would fall under our hate laws. If they do not then I believe this is a serious short coming of the existing legislation. Frankly I was unaware that a person or group of persons can publicly demand the murder of another and vocally as well as vehemently do so. Should not all those who participated in this activity be prosecuted? As for this silly protest. Well let them do as they wish so long as they harm no others and do not break the law.

More Than Just Teachers
AngusThermopyle replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Most other people do not claim to be something that they are not. Once again, as you appear to be unable to grasp the concept at first saying, you are not a teacher. Dont give me any crap about someday. You simply and truthfully by your own admission are not a teacher. Understand? -
Favorite Place in Canada
AngusThermopyle replied to TheRightWing's topic in Travel, Leisure and Sports
What I find strange is the way so many people equate best/favourite places in Canada with restaurants. Its just my personal opinion but restaurants are pretty low on my list as defining characteristics for a great place to be. We love to go up to the farm in Lindsay and camp. A private lake, great fishing, miles of trails and cooking over an open fire are some of the things we enjoy far more than a restaurant. -
I've read several versions of what happened and find it quite troubling. What troubles me is the way the RCMP appear to be jumping all over the board trying to justify what they did. First it was restricted airspace, then a security threat and now hate speech. Seems pretty obvious that they are reaching on this one. There should be a full inquiry and disciplinary action if warranted.

Organic Food not better for you
AngusThermopyle replied to Boges's topic in Health, Science and Technology
It's not too often I agree with you but in this case I do agree for the most. We find it does taste better but we grow our own for the most part. For some reason it tastes even better when you grow it yourself. Of course what we grow is'nt certified organic so I suppose the organic snobs would turn their collective noses up at it, however it is grown with all natural ammendments and zero chemicals so thats good enough for us. -
Political Correctness Destroys Great Retail Chain, Best Buy
AngusThermopyle replied to jbg's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Gotta agree, stupid thread title. Best Buy isn't in trouble because of some exec doing the bone dance with an employee, Best Buy is in trouble because of a number of far more significant reasons. As mentioned they can't compete with on line retailers, they also happen to have very uninformed employee's who know next to nothing about the products they sell. They stock a completely unremarkable line of average products, have a record of poor customer service and treat their employees like dirt. These are just some of the reasons they are in trouble. Want some more, just google Best Buy Sucks. You may be surprised at the amount of sites this brings up. I remember doing it around 2000 and being surprised, this company hasn't improved since then. Small wonder they're going tits up. -
Favorite Place in Canada
AngusThermopyle replied to TheRightWing's topic in Travel, Leisure and Sports
What a question, what a list of possible places in answer. Lets see, Okanagan Falls, the Cabot Trail, the Badlands of Alberta, Algonquin Park etc, etc. The list literally goes on and on. My exceptions would be any major city in Canada. Lets face it, a city is just a city. Lots of people and a bunch of non descript buildings. Having been to many major cities around the world I can attest to the fact that their is nothing remarkable or truly noteable about cities. Canada is such a beautifull place that mentioning a city on this list is merely being unimaginative or displaying a lack of experience in knowledge of this country, in my opinion that is. -
Michigan Cop visiting Calgary - what a world view!
AngusThermopyle replied to msj's topic in Canada / United States Relations
And what I'm talking about is an adult who thinks making faces at people is normal behaviour. As for the rest, the point is that just because people in Canada do not carry guns is no guarantee of ones safety. Having ones jaw broken is a pretty serious injury. If a person goes around deliberately provoking others then they really should'nt be surprised when they draw a negative and even forcefull reaction from them. Personally I saw one incident in a parking lot where a guy took after another with a tire iron, that will kill you just as dead as a pistol. -

And you are what? Five years old? You may not have a gun pulled on you in a road rage situation but did'nt you hear about the off duty cop who pulled a guy over on the 400 and broke his jaw? Good thing you did'nt flip that guy off is'nt it? -
Sorry, double post.

Ironic that you speak of corrupting childrens minds when that is exactly what you have said you want to do. Let me ask you a question. Why do you think you have any right at all to indoctrinate and pollute the minds of other peoples children? How did you become so arrogant as to believe you are entitled to meddle with others children in such a potentially harmfull manner? As for the rest you posted about not teaching that irrelevant stuff such as Mathematics and English, well I think that alone speaks volumes about both you and the quality of teachers entering the work force. All I can hope is that yours are isolated views on these matters.

My link No longer do we need to be bamboozled by all these claims of some magic invisible gravity force that makes things fall, now the truth has been discovered. It all makes perfect sense if you think about it, after all who has ever seen or touched this gravity thing, the answer, no one. Once more a great step has been made in understanding our universe. Hmmm, for some reason I can't get the link to work, perhaps someone is trying to hide the truth. Okay, got it working now, enjoy the real truth folks.

ROFL +1 post. Now I'm laughing so hard my peacefull easy feeling is all gone...thanks!

Well let me simplify things for you, you are a student, nothing more. As to being a teacher at some point in the future, well I have my doubts as to that. Is that simple enough for you? Should I draw a picture? In crayon perhaps? Indeed, all one has to do is read your opinions and that fact becomes very apparent.
-
What I find interesting about your posts is the apparent disconect from reality that you appear to suffer from. You yourself have previously stated that you are a student, not a teacher. Yet you repeatedly refer to yourself as a teacher, very curious indeed. As such I can only take your views with a grain of salt as you do not seem to know the distinction between teacher and student, a very basic and fundamental distinction.

The main problem with this statement is the fact that it is not a public educators job to create a just society as you claim. Their job consists of teaching the curriculum, no more. Their opinions on what constitutes a just society can and will vary wildly and as such should remain opinions and nothing more. By the way, I feel I should congratulate you. Although the content of your posts remains highly dubious I have to admit they have become far more legible than previous attempts you have made.
