  1. surplus increasing, middle class decreasing...way to go "New Government"
  2. Are you disputing the figures? Because I've presented data showing that comprehensive sex ed is extremely limited in the U.S. Meanwhile, in jurdistictions where contraceptives, confidential health care and comprehensive sex education are the norm, teen pregnancy, abortion, and STD rates are lower than in the U.S. Surely you can put two and two together here. An educated child will make educated choices (not all the time, but the majority of the time) An uneducated child will make uneducated choices ALL the time) B.Max, you think having Sex Ed in schools promotes sex?? Rubbish. After reading your objections, frankly I'm surprised you allow a computer in your house (with an internet connection, no less)
  3. maybe he is more concerned with soldier morale than the un-educated knee-jerk populace for once. Good on him. or maybe he is more concerned with how it looks to the Canadian people. moot point either way, but judging from his past actions, I'd say this recent trip has everything to do with politics and very little with boosting troop moral. But I could be wrong. Maybe he'll pick up a twig and play some ball hockey with the Boys. Actually, that might mess his hair some. Is his stylist travelling with him?
  4. As to other products, I prefer to spend my money on local products made by local artisans and manufacturers. If a corporation owns the business I refuse to buy. That IMO, is the way to bring corporations to their knees and boost the local economies at the same time. The minute anyone walks into a WalMart they have helped destroy the local economy. ...too true. I always ask where it comes from and try (where possible) to buy local and directly from the farmer if possible.
  5. uhh, no, just that these people have a conversation going on and you and I offer nothing to advance the debate. Both offer points that I was unaware of before.
  6. you're one of those sick people who stop at an accident scene to see if they can see any blood, ya? If you have nothing constructive to add (and I'll take my own advice after posting this) keep your cheerleading to yourself.
  7. You need both a left and a right wing to fly the plane. Thank God for the CBC. Keep up the good work people!
  8. I am against abortion. Having said that, if the baby causes a major threat to the mother OR we are dealing with a rape case, I feel that abortion is "acceptable." So I guess I have to say that I am pro-choice, don't I? To those couples who use abortion because they are too GD lazy to think about birth control until after the fact...you people are worse then scum. To those that have a birth control failure, the morning after pill is available. USE IT! SEX IS NOT JUST FOR PROCREATION, IT IS ALSO FOR RECREATION (if that sounds cold hearted, so be it.)
  9. I would agree when it's a stereotype or when being sexy is presented as the sole criterion for value. But as one attribute among others, sexy is positive, not negative. Seriously, try to actually listen to what I've said ... I did base my opinion on actual observation. another great topic started by betsy. In other news, Prime Minister Steven Harper has said that in order to show support to the Afgani people, all members (including Bev Oda) will be required to wear blue "Canadas' New Government" speedos during question period for the month of September. Harpers' handlers are currently looking for a vest that the PM can wear to "compliment" his amazing physique. When asked why, Harper was heard to say, "If they are focused on me and my "New Government" issued speedoes, they will not be focused on other, less important issues."
  10. Does anyone have any idea, a guesstimate if you will, as to how many manufacturing jobs Canada will lose this year to Mexico? Sorry Mr. Harper, but you and the other party leaders have done NOTHING to garner my trust and support. The SPP NEEDS to be brought out into the open so ordinary Canadians (ie our deminishing middle class) can see what our "leaders" are negotiating on our behalf. Let's name names as to who is benefitting from this new arrangement with usa and mexico.
  11. What in hell are they thinking showing this movie to 12 year olds??? If 12 year olds want to see it on their own (and with their parents' consent), whatever, but to show it in school?
  12. Although Mr. Falwell did some good things in his life (shelters for alcoholics and homes for unwed mothers), he had WAY too much hate for others who were different for me to shed a tear at his passing. Having said that, he was someones' son, he had people who cared for him. My thoughts go to them.
  13. They could give Dyawn a third head and he still would not look as daft as Steve. Not to comment on another guys appearance, but Steve looks like the guy that was always the last kid to get picked for a ball hockey game. Mr. Plastic.
  14. FTA, good info, thanks.
  15. I don't know much about this case...does that mean Radler is not guilty either? very good question.
  16. Army Guy said,"What is your interputation of peacekeeping ? Canada as a nation has always had more troops and equipment on NATO run missions than it has ever had on Peacekeeping duties, Canada as strickly peacekeeping nation is a myth set out by previous governments." What a shame, then. I always pictured us as the buffer zone between the weak guy and the bully. We were there to help out the little guy in regards to clean water, rebuilding hospitals, schools, etc... Thanks for setting the record staight. It now seems like too many soldiers join because it's just a job and they do what they are told to do by those above. No offense, but unless you state differently, you are a soldier who takes orders and is told what to think. Your opinion is "given" to you without question. No matter what you say, it is now clear that you will only spout the "government line" in regards to Afganistans. Cheerio.
  17. BuffyCat said.."Anyways - the post, the sun, the star the mop and pail are all pretty much the same IMV - none give nearly the background needed to form real opinions and all are big on propoganda. Good to scan them all, keeping in mind the narrow ownership of big media in Canada." I agree. It would be nice if there was a neutral media outlet that would just put the news out there, bang, here it is, and let people decide for themselves what the story is. But no, both left and right publications (getting to be more and more right sided these days because of corporate mergers, unfortunately) TELL us what to think. As a result, many Canadians are losing their "critical thinking" ability.
  18. hi Army Guy. I would quickly like to say THANK YOU for the sacrifices you and the others in the military have had to go through in Afganistan and I hope that every last member of the military gets home to their loved ones in one piece. In answer to your question (why are people against the mission), I have heard from many sources that if we were over there on a strickly "peacekeeping" mission, as Canada used to be known for, they would be behind it 100%. However, rightly or wrongly, the mission is being percieved as just an extention on the Iraq war (which seems to be based on false pretenses, ie WMD). Also, some have suggested that we are there to help the American forces secure a southern route for an oil and gas pipeline. I really can't offer an opinion one way or the other, as I have never been over there and I don't really trust what our MSM tells us half of the time.
  19. ...but sounds nothing like what Canada and the US actually did with internment camps during WW1 and WW2. Where are those FEMA death camps? ahhhhh,.......? You tell me, Bush Cheney.
  20. "Hitler was able to persuade millions of other people to become passionate about the ideas that moved him. He convinced many Germans that their nation was under attack, whipping the people into a fury, prevailing upon them to rise up to undertake a "life or death struggle" to save the nation." sounds a little like what Bush has done since 911. Not that I am comparing Bush to Adolf.
  21. Harper is many things, but he is no Hitler.
  22. I'm not sure that it was "hundreds of millions" or not, but if true (ie Radler is correct), then Black will do federal prison time. Yes, this does give capitalism a bad name, but to add some context, this case, which is being tried in Chicago, has almost no attention being paid to it. The reason is because this case is considered tiny in comparison to some of the corporate fraud trials that are going on. I would love to see any corporate ceo or executive who is found guilty of stealing from his company publicly whipped and the assets of his family taken away. I'm all for a pure market economy but we have not had one in MANY years. Let's get these criminal CEOs doing HARD time in a violent prison.
  23. so you're saying that Dr. Suzuki ordered the bus company to leave the engine running? He didn't order them to turn the engine off. ahh, yes, that is true.
  24. Welcome to the forum running dog. Thanks. I've read back through the thread and do much reading on the subject online. Great forum, btw.
