  1. They have them throughout small towns in Ontario. And my friend who works for the LCBO is dead against them. Thinks people should be inconvinced to support her store.... Not sure why large companies should have a right to open a Wine Rack store within there store, but smaller privately own businesses are not. I guess the large corporations need the money more than the mom & pop shop who's owners live upstairs and work 80hours a week don't deserve to have a profitible business
  2. In defence of the LCBO is the price of specialty beer is resonible here. I find the high volume beers in the USA are far cheaper there, but once you get into the specialty beers, they are about the same price. Kilkenny and Shiner Bock are not cheap in the US.
  3. I think they should allow beer and wine at corner stores as well. With the smoking habit disappearing, the corner stores need something to have people come in. I am not sure why it is government business to be in retail. Having said that, the LCBO does have nice stores. Too bad we tax the hell out of booze. I travel enough to the US, that I rarely need to shop there. I paid $16.50 for a 24 of Keith cans at the Buffalo crossing a few weeks ago.... Not hard to see where the $billions are coming from... I don't think that going private will change anything for access for minors. I used to be too young to drive, but was able to buy booze at a government store.
  4. I wasn't too interested in the governor side of the story, but I have changed my mind. I don't think I have been this anxious to see an episode as much as I am right now. The small group of elite killers vs. a bigger less capable group. It will be interesting to see how Andrea reacts next week. I think Merle is going to rejoin the group. Glenn is officially my favorite character..
  5. I don't think PEI has too much power within confederation becuase of the 4 seats.... In fact, I think this is one of the rare times I even noticed PEI mentioned on this forum...
  6. I live in a subdivision that is 3-4 miles from a wind turbine. And when the wind is blowing right, I hear a swish - swish noise from outside of my house, despite having trees!!! It is likely a boom from when the blade passes the tower. I think it is university of Windsor is doing a study on the frequencies that are below the audible range that it creates. They are wondering if they are what is causing people the nausea. Maybe causing a low frequency vibration of some of there organs. Maybe an issue that only bothers a percentage of the population. Similar to sea sickness... Here's an interview by CBC with a researcher: http://www.cbc.ca/player/Radio/Local+Shows/Ontario/The+Bridge/ID/2260705164/ I don't have any negative effects, but just because science hasn't fully understand the issue, doesn't make it settled.
  7. Has Europe or the USA done worst than expected this year? I thought, as well or better than I predicted. Have they done that much worst than what the experts predicted? How rosey were the Canadian government predictions that the current is way worst??? What would happen if things around the world go as bad as some predict? Are we setup to go bankrupt?
  8. I am a fan of CBC Radio. I wish the TV news was able to present both sides as effectively as the Radio. I personally think that as media seems to push more and more of their corporate owners agenda, that the CBC is becoming more and more important. I think more attention should be given to improving the CBC to be unbiased, then eliminating it. Maybe the radio is so good because it doesn't need to get advertisers. Maybe the ratings game is why CBC released the story when they did. If so, maybe we should better fund the CBC and push them to become less bias and better represent both sides to the stories.
  9. I am not familiar with the comics, but love this show. I am not a big fan of the "Governor" story line. I think it just takes away from the main group's story. They seem to have to edit out a lot what going on to have the show has fit the time allotted. Like what happened to Carol? I assume they buried her, as Daryl laid the flower to the 3rd grave!? Maybe I will grow to enjoy the town’s storyline.
  10. The problem is the teachers union is not a professional organization, but more of a Labour Union. I am totally against the actions of the teachers union, but I am relieved to know that in my area, the teachers decided to ignore the union, as they themselves didn't agree with the union. I am relieved to know that the teachers are professional enough to ignore their labour union. My concern is that if a union of professionals is this backwards, what hope do we have that the CAW/CEP to become a modern union like those in Germany and Japan. Not good. Also, Michael, you must have more interest in the unions position than having kids caught up in this to have your attitude.
  11. Do you actually have an proof of this ever happening? I heard an interesting interview on CBC radio with an atheist. She was given a medical case that she believed to be a legal case to study, then realised after the fact it that she was trying to disprove a miracle. She said to be considered a miracle, that all of the best medical science of the time had to be used, and the cure to appear to impossible. So back to.my question, have any "miracles" been proven false?
  12. First, I don't think this is much about wages. The Teachers I know were expecting a less than good contract. So for arguments sake, let’s assume that it is only about right violations resulting from Bill 115. Therefor, this is a moral/legal fight between the union (or all unions) and the McGuinty government. I have seen the teachers take 2 approaches to this. One was to disrupt McGuinty's power by working to ensure that he did not win the KW by-election. And likely any legal battles that will come of this. The second is these action this action and with extra-curricular activities. This one attacks students and parents. This does not directly go after the government, but attack parents so that they can be intimidated into joining their cause. "If you don't join us, we will make your children pay for it!" Thus my Thugs comment. It hurts the cause in my eyes. It is almost like they are trying what CUPE did during their strikes in TO and Windsor a few years back, which back fired. And is the equivalent of back in the ’70 when autoworkers threw bolts in doors of the cars they used to build, which they matured from. I think they would be better off trying to educate the population in a more non-abrasive manner. Like maybe another multi-million dollar campaign, like they did so that McGuinty was the leader they got to do this contract with. Can’t all organized labour come up with a way to fight this without taking actions against the population??
  13. It does show how poorly they are handling this. They got screwed, and are looking bad at it. The NHL players are probably getting more sympathy, Even though they will still make over 2 million a year. Poor leadership....
  14. Not sure why the teachers are attacking the public. They wanted McGuinty, the people voted with the teachers and re-elected him, now they realize they were wrong, they punish the public. They are definitely not a professional organisation, just another group of thugs.
  15. I agree, I think Quebec should make life easier for the future upper classes by making there education cheaper. To do this, in reality the government will be adding more debt to all future Quebecers... rich and poor... Also, they should water down Higher education to make sure that everybody can have one... haha. Anybody who wants and can handle a higher education is not prevented by getting one by tuition. The cost of lost wages is far higher. Free education means we will have to give up something else. People never appreciate free stuff more than something they pay for... Lets get Parting up at our schools...
  16. I had a buddy at the game, and said the croud was awesome. We used to go to games a few years ago, but stopped when I lost hope in them (and had a kid). I think yesterdays game was the closest score in a while. I think Suh will get a game for the kick. He has had too many fines to just make it another fine. And he is one of my favorite players. My new Lions jersy is his. From what I heard, if the Lion's offense wasn't so bad for penalties, they would have made a better game of it than what the score shows...
  17. Having driven different toll roads, I am not sure how it reduces overall congestion of a city. Sure the 407 sometimes is not busy, but that isn't helping the 401. I think Toronto needs to look at how to improve it's public transit. It's subway system is an embarrasment. I don't know why they pick on cars always to pay for public transit and bike lanes. Should be property taxes. I guess it is always easier to have the other guy pay as transit users likely don't have cars.. In Toronto anyway....
  18. I bet you any money that this kid who is so dangerious and violent that 2 police officers needed handcuffs, will daily be under the resposibility of a single female (@ daycare or a TA at school) that will not be allowed to use constraints. They are the people that we should be wondering how we can make safer.
  19. The TO issue overflows to the outlying areas as well though. This is not just a downtown issue. TO traffic backs up to Milton some days. I like the town of Cobourg and others just North east of TO, but don't visit as the extra hours the traffic TO adds to the drive make it not worth it. I actually visit the city less as well as a result. I have a brother who has a house on the north edge of downtown, and last time traffic added 1.5 hours to the trip to see him... Was the last time I bothered to go. I don't enjoy weekends that stress you our before you arrive. I do find it interesting that people think availability to access roads should be based on wealth. Tolls to reduce traffic are only affective if we can prevent the freedoms to the lower classes... Interesting Black Dog... People who drive cars do pay their own way and subsidies transportation of goods for all....
  20. CBC has certainly picked their favorite, but it doesn't seem to be as bad as when the Leafs are on, even if they are playing against another Canadian team... I am sick of hearing them go on about how dirty Boston is playing when I don't think Thomas made a stop without having 2 Canucks jump on him. The Sedin's make it hard to cheer for the Canucks. All they do is dive. They play like Russians from the 90's...
  21. I voted yes, despite my agreeing with Alta4ever. If the other members of the party wouldn't destroy him, he presents what I think is there best chance, now that McKenna and Tobin are out.
  22. You obviously never been to where windmills are. They build service roads through the farm land to get to the turbine. Your 64 square feet number is WAY OFF!!! hehe.....maybe 64,000 sq ft
  23. As a middle class person in his 30's who does put away for early retirement (then go paycheque to paycheque), I am betting that 66% of Canadians are not so poor that they cannot save for retirement. One of my frustrations is most of my friends still haven't seriously started to save for retirement. They make no less money than I do, definitely don't have the dependants I do, but are part of the no retirement savings demographic. I do sympathize for the people who are unable to make a good living and will retire at or beyond 65 to continue life in poverty, but they are only a part of the issue. It is the people who rather drive new cars and buy toys than buy RRSPs. I personally think we need to better educate the people of this country about Finances. There should be a class on it every year through High school to pound financial responsibility into people’s heads. I think over half the issue is people being ignorant to what they need to do to retire well. I do not mind the idea of increasing employee contributions to CPP, but do not agree with forcing companies to pay extra employee taxes. I actually agreed with Elizabeth May when she said that we should not tax the things we do want, but the things we want to eliminate. And we need more jobs. A worst job market isn't going to help us financially. And I also think the PRPP plan is a good plan, just not the ultimate solution.
  24. I think it would only hurt them if Harper goes forward with building the Quebec Area. Otherwise, this is the first time in a long time that I think he has done something right. We need to get the finacial books in order first.
  25. I watched UFC 20 years ago a few times, and after a certain match found it too violent for me. Since then, they vastly improved it by making it less violent. They stop matches at an appropriate time, and eliminated the blood bath. As a result, it became far more popular. I don't think that MMA is more violent today than boxing was 50 years ago, so I completely disagree with your comment. Though, I only watch it on occasion, but it's more about hanging out drinking beers than enjoying the fights...
