  1. I don't believe that Harper has some secret agenda. I believe that these attacks on the census is purely to calm the Libertarian Conservatives, as Harper always appears to be more Authoritarian in practice. As such, he will no longer get my vote. He has been a terrible Conservative. I am not convinced that he has ruled much more to the right than Chretien, once you ignore the chatter. The only attempt he may have made to eliminate social programs I can see would be he is trying to spend us so far into dept that we will no longer be able to afford them. And to me that is not a true conservative move.
  2. I thought he was home schooled to make sure that he remained only a documented Canadian and to remain appalled by all things Canadian? Our refugee system is obsolete. With the shinking globe, we need to adjust to the new reality. This is just another example of our Government not changing with the times.
  3. 32/35. Ashamed to say that it was the muscle cars that I got wrong. Where I work there was a mint Grand National that was all orginal that was sweet.
  4. Should the federal government have the ability to charge an additional tax to the businesses that seen a huge windfall from this event. I rarely see any news reports on the huge money spent and the cash that was brought in to many of the businesses in TO. Maybe we should make sure that the people who were charging thousands of dollars t rent there place out for a month and make sure they pay taxes on that income. They barely were any protesting or violence for this type of event, yet TO think is it was the worst ever. WHINERS!!! Really, where did a majority of the 1.2 Billion end up being spent?? How much money does it take to shut TO up?
  5. The first I hear of police going to innocent peoples houses to harass them for not agreeing with the government is the G8 Harper harassment police. Dalton, being what I consider the worst provincial politician ever, never had an original thought in his life. I believe he is just following suit. Harper made such behavior the norm in this country. And you know what happens when the president is set. This is truly proof that libertarians and conservatives have very little in common. At least 500 MILLION was wasted as the windows got broken anyway, and there was too little coverage of hippies having there heads bashed in....
  6. I always thought that the protesters at these summits were mostly idiots. Unfortunately, the plan the government had to control the crowd is the idiot. After seeing on the news the guy with the chainsaw they busted, this security approach is ridicules. I thought this security was to protect the world leaders. If anyone thinks a guy with a chainsaw was a real threat for Obama, then they are the idiots... And with the scrutiny that they are attacking potential "window breakers", I know feel like I know they are wasting the Billion dollars. This is far more offensive than the Libs stealing the 100 million... Harper not only stole my money, but privacy and rights!!! I have read how this goes beyond the G20 even. A Woman outside of Windsor has been harassed to make sure she never attended a windmill opening ceremony, as she is known to be a critic against it. OPP from Toronto are showing up at her house now to harass her... http://www.windsorstar.com/technology/Turbine+critic+alarmed+intimidation/3184139/story.html I am starting to think that Harper is not making our country more right wing, but communist. Man, we have a sad crew to choose from federally...
  7. I think it is funny that the area of the country with the cheapest houses, is Boardwalk.... In Chatham-Kent you can buy a fancy house with an attached garage for less than most apartments in this country.
  8. We felt something outside of Windsor.. Thought my fan was resonating at first...
  9. I voted for the Republic of Canada, but I wonder if it wouldn't cause more headaches than it's worth to do the change. I think Monarchy's are obsolete, and the fact that ours is the royalty of another country, it is more embarrassing than anything else.
  10. I really don't want us to become more polarized like the Americans when it comes to politics. And I think networks like Fox News ramp up the polarization. I see this as a negative to our society. Having said that, I put a majority of the blame for this need to have right wing channel on our current news channels. And more specifically on CBC TV. As Stated throughout this topic, you can view left wing documentaries and commentaries. Although, the At Issue panel is balanced, I rarely see the right wing perspective properly presented on Canadian TV. It's unfortunate that we need to get a channel dedicated to the right wing voice. That the voice cannot be heard on another channel today. I cannot ever see CBC showing a documentary that is against Abortion, GW, etc. I put the blame on them for putting us on the road towards having channels like Fox News in Canada.
  11. No, the private sector is a more heartless entity than our society. I trust the government more than the private sector. I have a hard time believing that people in this country wanting to see fellow citizens seeing gov't employees be the poorest members of our society with unfair treatment. Private obviously could care less, as we see how much companies care about there employees in China. I do think the current private unions have a bit too much power, and like how described in the video, do not care about the company. Not a good situation for a company when it's employees are indifferent to the success of the company. In fact, unions are big companies themselves now, and inherently evil as such.
  12. I agree with this. Large companies CEO do what ever it takes to get a quick bonus. No concern for the long termviability of the company. They definitely don't run companies like an owner would. I have no problem with a company owner making tonnes of cash when times are good, as they lose it when times are bad. Business' now are run by people who seem to do well either way. And that's why I think most have failed recently. As much as I loath the CAW, the Execs are what screwed up the Auto Industry.
  13. I would stop worrying about the old fellas that are still brainwashed against pot. I see the only 2 real issues preventing full legalization are, determining if a driver of a car is high and the reaction from the US. The US has a bit of an insane perspective. This to me is the largest concern I have. I go to Juarez Mexico for work, and would not want to see the war come to Canada. And if we had it legalized, I'm scared our border would be like the Mexican. Back when I was a student, I seen about 20 engineering students sitting in a circle passing a doobie. If those guys/gals were criminals.... then we are all facked. And that was back in the '90s. Our current pot laws are probably the silliest we have. Despite our silly laws and the USAs sillier laws, I agree with Marc being extradited in this case. That is assuming that for this level of crime (Wither pot or not) would justify extradition.
  14. From what I heard is that a lot of the health concerns regarding Wind come from Germany. To show how little concern McGuinty has for the people out of the city, the distance from a residence in Germany is double that of what is required here in SW Ontario. Also, if you want to have a windmill on your farm, you essentially have to go to a Big energy company to be able to get a permit to construct one. If people here think Wind power is going to be expensive, wait to you start paying for Solar here in Ontario. I knew a couple of farmers that are about to install 20' X 40' solar panels onto there farms. Not to power the house, but to go directly onto the grid. The province is offering 20 year contracts on the electricity generated. They are guaranteed over 80 cents a KWH. That is 10-20 times what we end consumers pay. I historically spoke out against nuclear power, but I am slowly coming over to agreeing that it is the only logical solution. (WIP maybe to blame). At worst, far superior to what we McGuity is currently doing with a 24+ billion deficit and no plans to eliminate it despite his annual tax increases. McGuinty may even shame me into voting for Hudak before our economy is completely destroyed.
  15. I also voted in support for the hunt. I also find it unfortunate that as a result of the animals being in the wild, vs literally stuffed in to cages, caused this silly ban. My question is, if all of the opponents (Europe and US) have banned all seal products, then why we don't again allow the white coats to be hunted again. I bet Asia and other regions would buy far more white coats than our current product lines. I just don't see any logical reason to keep up this ban.
  16. I have 2 close friends with the same story and feel the same as you as a result... I wonder as an alternative, leave the current laws as they are and offer good money for the pregnant money for her child if she carries it to term. There are a lot of couples who would like to adopt. Try that course of action, and reduce the need for Immigration to keep our population numbers. I think this may workout to be a good move for Harper in some ways. The highly offended, probably never would have voted for hi. And this is the first carrot he offered to the social conservatives of his party since he has been in power. Thus guaranteeing their loyalty for years in voting. Without actually doing anything for them here in Canada.
  17. See Bold above Also, Haven't some of the Liberals backed Harper on this?
  18. To answer the OP, I think STFU is totally classless and unacceptible for somebody in that position. I do understand that she was warning against biting the hand that feeds, but do it with some class at least!!!
  19. Are they not already? If my testicles release something, that I later want killed, I have no rights to that decision. I may have to pay big $ for 18 years+ because a woman disagreed. Or do you think making father forced to be responsible is wrong? Unlike Waldo, I do respect that others have a different opinion than I about whether abortion is murder and think we a country should respect others opinions. I never argued against whether or not early abortion should or shouldn't be legal, not sure they should be free. But I think we have to still respect that a lot of people still think at that point it's murder. I don't know why letting a doctor's opinion have the power is seen as superior to some regulation. I believe that the doctor should make the decesion based on regulations. Regulations doesn't mean "making it illegal. Or is that what your fearing? And if anybody caused the death of my pregnant wife's child (fetus), then I think it is more than just an assault on my wife. It's more than a lump of flesh that is no different than a pimple to us... I am not sure why that isn't understood?!?!?!!?
  20. If it's not done here , as a result of it being too immoral, then why not have a law either against it or at least making sure that the people of this country won't pay for it. There is a large group of people in this country that thinks abortion is murder, not just a small routine procedure. And they fund this "murder". I think the Liberals are missing the center of this country by not proposing at least some level of regulation. Instead they'll look like losers as usual under Iggy. I don't think they will gain much support on this issue as they are pushing it. I doubt that many people are going to vote Liberal instead of NDP on as a result of this fight, which his party even, is split on. I wonder if this will be the end of the CPC pushing support to poor countries. Seems like Iggy won't let him look good doing it, so why bother?
  21. I am personally a fan of the CBC radio and do enjoy Canadian TV. I think it would be a shame to lose the radio. It is the only source I have for local news. I am not sure we need to keep the TV in it's current format. Maybe government funding towards individual TV shows on private Canadian networks would be enough. I can understand why people are against government funding for the TV, but feel it is necessary with our location being next to an entertainment juggernaut (US). Most of my friends, when they became interested in the community and politics, started listening to CBC Radio... I would like to see more right wing views on the CBC. It is not as extreme left as it used to be, but I would like to see it more center. It's left wing agenda will be the cause of it's own demise...
  22. This debate is starting to make this perspective mine... I just think if we can't figure out if some starving people who aren't expected to live into their 30's should have abortions, why bother doing anything for them. We have enough women & children with problems within Canada. The far left wins again...children die...
  23. I was never a fan of Nuclear power. I always felt, with current knowledge levels, that it was just passing the buck to the next generation. We have pollution that does not go away naturally, and we have no way to deal with it but to bury it. I bet in 50 years, people in Europe would be wondering what our generation was thinking in polluting our planet with radiation. I have a hard time believing that there isn't radiation spills on some level on a somewhat regular basis as the reactor age. With the extremely long half-life of the waste, the consequences of the spills will remain here for generations. We have so many opertunities to become far more efficient that I think a combination of improved efficincies and having green technology at residences (Small Wind/solar setups) that I think we can eliminate coal without Nukes... Maybe I'm dreaming...
  24. Do we live in the same riding? It seems to me that Dave is useless, and I am yet to see any evidence to the contrary..
