I do not think any other nation should have "friends". All nations will and ultimately act in thier "best interest", whatever that best interest is "percieved" to be, and by whom is ultimately being served. example of this is the SPP: Obviously Harper et al, feel this is in the "best interest" of someone, anyway, though it is clear, it is not in the best interest of the populace in general, or the populace would be included, instead negotiations go on behind closed doors, with politicians and business leaders. That makes clear, who's "interests" are being served. Does Canada have friends? IMO, no. And when other nations act on our behalf, to help us out, if they're not doing it because they are our friend, are they doing it only in their own interest? It could be to help out, genuinely and humanely , it could be to gain favour down the road, (self-serving) It's the same as any other act of altruism, why does anyone do helpful acts? There can be any number of reasons. The case of the US is unique, in that it is the sole superpower at this time. That puts the country in a different position then say, Canada. Alot of "sucking up" goes on, and of course, alot of bribery on the part of the US also. Look at the Iraq war, how was the US public interest served by that? The public was under no threat, though, the public was manipulated into believing they were. Yet the government, needed the populace to be fearful, to use them, for support, monetary and otherwise, to justify the attack. Who's interests were really served?

LOL!!! Yah, liked the quickly fixed New Orleans eh?!!!! naive

Aaah, succinct summary of facts! I recall saying this endlessly to Canadians who think "America is our friend" my reply, America, the country has no friends , only interests, stop being so naive. Now the American people? Another story, I know some great ones and count them to be my friends!

Hmmm, so the US is using Taiwan, or at least, trying to keep them on hand, to be used as a destabilizing force in/against China, if necessary?

so jbg, what's your problem then with the 9/11 attacks? "If a country permits its land to be used to organize atacks on another it is putting itself in the line of fire. " The US has used it land, it's money, it's own army to create all manner of terrorism and attacks. From the Contra's in Nicaraugua, to Death squads in Panama, to the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan, who INVADED Russia, to the PKK in Iraq, RIGHT NOW, to terrorist groups in Iran, RIGHT NOW, covert attacks on Cuba, to all the terrorists the US trains on US soil at the 'School of the Americas' and on and on and on!!!! So everyone in the US should then, therefore, according to your "opinion" suffer, the consequences, all US citizens have put themselves in the "line of fire" ? Or, are you just going to promote another double standard ?

http://www.grailwerk.com/docs/nytimes10.htm May 25, 2003 'Charlie Wilson's War': Arming the Mujahedeen So it was hardly a surprise after the Soviets' humiliating withdrawal in 1989 that the C.I.A.'s spymasters invited Wilson out to celebrate at the agency's headquarters at Langley, Va. On a large movie screen in an auditorium at the George Bush Center for Intelligence flashed a huge quotation from Pakistan's president, Gen. Mohammad Zia ul-Haq, who had willingly allowed the C.I.A.'s arms pipeline to flow through his country. Zia credited Wilson with the defeat of the Russians in Afghanistan with the words, ''Charlie did it.'' ( General Zia, another Pakistani military dictator, who worked hand in glove with the US/CIA, died under mysterious circumstances in a plane crash, I wonder if Mushareff, will meet the same fate? http://www.guerrillacampaign.com/zia.html Who killed Zia?) The decisions were made in secret by Wilson and other lawmakers on the appropriations committee. To help make his case, Wilson exploited one of the decade's scandals, the Iran-contra affair, arguing that Democrats who were voting to cut off funding for the contras in Nicaragua could demonstrate their willingness to stand up to the Soviet empire by approving more money for the Afghan fighters. what? the decisions were made in secret! NO one leaked it, for years and years!!! OMG, how is that possible? it was one of the largest covert CIA operations! http://www.amazon.com/Charlie-Wilsons-War-...n/dp/0871138549 Charlie Wilson's War: The Extraordinary Story of the Largest Covert Operation in History All decisions made in secret! sorry, in a round about way, I am answering who funded the mujahadeen, to the tune of BILLIONS of dollars, inc., OBL!

Beverley McLachlin, PC, LL.D, M.A., LL.B, BA (born September 7, 1943) is the Chief Justice of Canada, which is what the Marine and Marine mom, were doing, and the Reverend. "The free flow of ideas essential to political democracy and democratic institutions" and limits the ability of the state to subvert other rights and freedoms But hey, agent provocateurs at protests, are Okeydokey in some minds????? Rather then a subversion of the populaces right to free spech and protest? "They hate us for our freedoms" -
This may possibly be the only time I will agree with you, but, who knows! I agree wholeheartedly!!! Thomas Jefferson "None but an armed nation can dispense with a standing army. To keep ours armed and disciplined, is therefore at all times important."

I noticed the refusal of Germany to go along with this. Interesting. Wondered if Russia, played a roll in that decision? -

There is not a "Poster ban" in TO. Not one that I could find anywhere. If you know differently please provide a link. http://www.publicspace.ca/postering.htm Toronto's by-law is available there.(2006) and much of the concern over the banning of poster's was, a free speech issue! As posters are a way to communicate to members of a community , hence free speech. -

we don't need to change our voting laws, they are perfectly fine! I've worked polls myself.(scrutineer) Suggestion, be careful what you wish for. Demanding, concessions from others will eventually lead to YOU making them also. I know, I know, right over your head.... Are you gonna go for the verichip soon? It seems to be something you would love, so I am just wondering.? It gives cancer ya know, something to think about before you so willingly give up your own freedoms. -

The "blanket insult" is to deny some people there religious freedom, because a xenophobic society, doesn't like the way it is practiced. Now either society denies that freedom ,equally, or not at all. If people can mail in there vote, and ID is in fact never checked, the relevance to these people going in to vote, dressed as per their religious custom, is much ado about nothing! -

SADLY, there are to many non-thinking people demanding, invasions/reductions of personal privacy, for the illusion of security. Of course while there at it, the opportunity to scapegoat Muslims is always good! -

hey I'll wear my bra, on my face, cause this is a load of shite! Maybe, I will wear my Canadian toque and scarf, if it's winter! When we vote, we aren't even asked for ID, and most of the time we know the "people in our neighbourhood" who are workin' the polls! -
How do you KNOW that, you KNOW the Taliban did that? Because they actully said, they did not! In fact there is a journalist, CANADIAN,Ibid Ullah Jan who interviewed OBL prior to the attack on 9/11, and he could not even communicate with OBL, as the Taliban had taken away his means of communications, and in fact the journalist had to send word, by foot, to OBL, prior to the interview. Then when he interviewed him (OBL), OBL complained to Mr Jan, that the Taliban were not taking him seriously. So you KNOW that the Taliban supported OBL eh? Sorry, no link available, it was an interview, but he speaks of it in one of his book's. from one of the articles I posted links to CIA spokesperson "I have no doubts they wanted to get rid of him. He was a pain in the neck.” "Allegedly, Hashimi also proposes that the Taliban would hold bin Laden in one location long enough for the US to locate and kill him. However, this offer is refused." Give Him an "F" in the War on Terror: How Bush Was Offered Bin Laden and Blew It http://www.ccmep.org/2004_articles/general...ve_him_an_f.htm yah, the Taliban just supported OBL to the nines , they tried so many times to give him to the Americans Inc. Clinton But MDancer , you de man!

This is when BC totally surprises me, cause, bs is bs, and the US wanted in to Afghan prior to 9/11, then along came 9/11 giving them the perfect pretext! Unocal and oilpipelines my friend, is the way it works! God, the US oil co. loved the Taliban so, they brought the good ol boys to Texas, to talk oil! Bush has intimate ties to that sector was he there, or Cheney? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/world/west_asia/37021.stm World: West Asia Then along came Bridas, that made things messy. Taliban offered Osama up, as early as February /01, http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15046240/ transcript from video clip then in March /01 http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/context...nvoy#a0301envoy March 2001: US and Taliban Discuss Handing over bin Laden Edit event Taliban envoy Rahmatullah Hashimi meets with reporters, middle-ranking State Department bureaucrats, and private Afghanistan experts in Washington. He carries a gift carpet and a letter from Afghan leader Mullah Omar for President Bush. He discusses turning bin Laden over, but the US wants to be handed bin Laden and the Taliban want to turn him over to some third country. then again June 2001 Early June 2001: Taliban Leader Claims Interest in Resolving bin Laden Issue Reclusive Taliban leader Mullah Omar says the Taliban would like to resolve the bin Laden issue, so there can be “an easing and then lifting of UN sanctions that are strangling and killing the people of [Afghanistan].” then they offered again and again!!! The US was not after Osama, it was the pipeline deal, that was dear to them. Taliban could have handed Osama to the US on a plate with dressing and the US still would have attacked Afghanistan. Utter nonsense to think otherwise.
-
Do you KNOW for certain the Taliban did that? Cause we KNOW the Taliban said they would give Osama to the US, hardly indicative of a government, giving unconditional support.

Prosecuting criminals and decimating a country are 2 entirely different things. I expect criminals to be held culpable! I don't expect, everyone, and everything to have to suffer ,in an entire nation for the few.
