WHO FUNDED 9 11 ?
Moonlight Graham replied to Oleg Bach's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Great quote from Ron Paul. Yes, the plans to invade Iraq were drawn up by the Neo-Cons long before Bush came to power via Paul Wolfowitz's doctrine of pre-emption penned in the early 90's. 9/11 was just a great excuse to start it. Then you are telling people false info. No Pakistanis. Of the 19 hijackers, 15 were Saudis, two were from the United Arab Emirates, one from Lebanon, and one from Egypt. Why are we painting all Saudis as bad? I've never heard the claim that the Saudi gov't funded Al-Qaeda, in fact they kicked Bin Laden out of the country around the time Wolfowitz was penning his "masterpeice". Who funded 9/11 & Al-Qaeda? It wasn't the Taliban, it was the other way around. Bin Laden was filthy rich from early business ventures, and also came from a well-off family if i'm not mistaken. I'm sure there a few other rich anti-west a-holes who may have tossed them some cash as well. -
This is mostly the car company's fault. Stop making trucks, SUV's, and Hummers, and start making more smaller cars that people are actually buying like the Civic, Echo, Honda Fit etc. If they get any sort of bailout, they would have to pay it back + interest. This is a bit different than the bank crisis. This is just pure capitalism we're seeing.

Obama and the recent past
Moonlight Graham replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
If the U.S. wished to invade Afghanistan after 9/11, most of the troops in Iraq should have been in Afghanistan in the first place. Obama now has to play catch-up in Afghanistan, when most of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda are in Pakistan now anyways. Regarding Iran, Bush has severely deepened this problem. If you were the Iranian gov't, and a massive military power invaded 2 neighbour countries located directly to the left and right of you, wouldn't you be strongly concerned that you'd be next? Wouldn't you want to produce some nukes to avoid this? The entire "pre-emption" philosophy behind the invasion of Iraq even worsens the problem, given that Iran knows that it doesn't even have to shoot a fire-cracker in order to be invaded. Lets also not forget a missile-shield being built in Europe in order to "defend against a nuclear Iran", which has ruffled the Russian fur. Better? Doubtful. Stronger? At what cost? Hundreds of thousands of innocent lives, thousands of casualties to Western soldiers (both physically & psychologically), a deepened resentment/hatred toward the west among Arabs, a defiant Iran, steeper oil prices, and a world of nations that went from sympathizing the U.S. after 9/11 to despising it. Quite the cost for "liberty". Possibly. I highly doubt that. Bush's final legacy is up in the air due to what's happening in the middle east. His legacy could worsen or get better depending on how time plays itself out. However, nothing about time can change the lies made that were responsible for the Iraq war & the torture/human rights abuses under his admin, as well as his response to Katrina and the fact that the greatest economic purge in 60 years came under his watch. The middle-east needs to become a lovely land of licorice & lollipops before Bush is ever considered a good President. -
Knives out for Palin

Palin doesn't need any knives. She needs a library card. -
Next President: Barack Obama
Moonlight Graham replied to Mortui's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
So what does that say about those that voted for McCain instead? -
Next President: Barack Obama

I would add Bush & the economy to that list, which i think are far more a factor than that idiot in heels. -

Next President: Barack Obama
Moonlight Graham replied to Mortui's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Thank God this happened. Let's hope things get back on the right track. The popular vote was scary-close considering what has happened the last 8 years. But change is awesome. Here's to better things to come! -
Obama wants to Redistribute Wealth
Moonlight Graham replied to Mr.Canada's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You sir have your mind & your heart screwed into the right places. I couldn't agree with you more. Not just Republicans, but many Christian conservatives in Canada also have their heads high up their behinds. Un-Christ like indeed. I'm not overly religious, but i thought the whole point of Christianity is to try and live your life as Jesus did & taught? Jesus certainly wouldn't be a proponent of dog-eat-dog laissez-faire capitalism many conservatives trumpet. Or maybe he would, but certainly expect more of us give to charity and the poor & do more to fight poverty. I also love the Christian conservative hypocrites who chain themselves to the 2nd Ammendment. Do you think Jesus would own a gun? I love the Christian conservative hypocrites in favour of corporal punishment. Did Jesus not say "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone"? I love the Christian conservative hypocrites (including Palin) who support the Guantanamo torture rooms, and those Christians (both left & right) that are so eager to bomb the crap out of Muslims & anyone else overseas. Did Jesus not say: "...Ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." (Matthew 5:38-39)...Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you. (Matthew 5:38-44) It is all so stupid. Are these not some of THE fundamental teachings of Jesus? Why do some people even bother going to church if they don't even listen? -
Is Bush a Genius?

Is this thread a joke? -
Unbelieveable. Those darn "gotcha" 3rd-graders. Honestly, she has absolutely no business being in the position that she's in. She needs a few years of poli-sci studies & a newspaper subscription. The scary thing is that she has a pretty good shot at being nominated by the Republicans for Pres next election. P.S. i found this interesting bit i didn't know: She was elected to Wasilla city council in 1992-1996 before she ran for Mayor of Wasilla. That gives her a little bit more political cred IMO.

The banks were extremely eager to cash in on all the mortgages they gave out. Less regulation would have done nothing, quite the opposite. Laissez-faire capitalism doesn't work. We figured that out after the Industrial Revolution, we figured it out in the 30's, and we're seeing it now again. The best system IMO is free-market capitalism with just enough socialism to protect the little guy & those who can't help themselves (disabled etc.). Laissez-faire has proven not to work, so has an all-socialist system. Clearly a mix of both systems has made for the most success for nation-states since the Industrial Revolution (see: current Europe, North America).

agreed. Regional parties are B.S. Parties like the Bloc do nothing but divide Canadians.

Powell Endorsement
Moonlight Graham replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Obama isn't black? What is he, fluorescent pink? There's a legit argument for black people to vote for a black candidate. A lot of them probably believe he will look after their own interests better than whitey has, and they're probably right. Is that racist or is it common sense? -
Biden Warns Of An Obama Presidency
Moonlight Graham replied to Shady's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Ahh the politics of fear. Republicans nowadays love to pounce of this type of stuff, or fabricate their own "fears" to the people. Obama is a Muslim. Obama is a socialist. Obama is a terrorist. And ya, someone like Iran or Russia will test Obama by doing something to try and bully him and see how he reacts. Same with JFK. What would truly be frightening is if Palin became President and they were to test her. She can't even get through network TV interviews, what chance would she have? -

Powell Endorsement
Moonlight Graham replied to BC_chick's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Powell was great on Meet The Press, except on the questions on Iraq where he doesn't regret supporting the war, and that everyone in admin thought Saddam had WMD's etc. & he was just working on the best intelligence the CIA could muster. That's B.S. Powell is awesome, minus that part. And his fatal flaw may be in his being too loyal. Sometimes you do need to refuse to follow orders, but i'd find that very hard for him being a lifelong military man. I hope he's just still being the good soldier & not wanting to snitch on Bush & co. after the cards fell. Does anyone have a link where Powell says that he disagreed with the report he presented at the U.N.? -
You have a link about that? From what i've learned, the ACORN scandal has been about lazy ACORN employees who are paid to register as many voters as they can. The lazy greedy ones are making up names/addresses and registering them so they don't actually have to register real voters. The problem with this is that nobody can vote as "Mickey Mouse" or the Dallas Cowboys unless they have a fake ID's saying they are these people. Though id welcome some legit evidence to the contrary. If ACORN really wanted to do voter fraud they are being extremely lazy and obvious about it.

Final Obama - McCain Debate
Moonlight Graham replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
i watched about 20 minutes of the debate. I know their policies & where they both stand. These campaigns are much too long. They could easily slice a month or 2 off this broadway show -
Good for a chuckle: http://www.palinaspresident.us/

IMO the Greens and NDP should unite, or the Greens just go away all together. They have proven a rather useless party thanks to Ms May, unfortunately.

Quebec - Shall we kick them out?
Moonlight Graham replied to JerrySeinfeld's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If you wanted to kick out Quebec, just take away all the money & handouts the fed gov't gives them and they would almost certainly vote to separate. I dearly want Quebec to stay, but I'm tired of the gov't giving all of this money to Quebec to appease them and prevent them from separating. They should want to stay because they are a wonderful part of this great country, not because they are being bought. People voting for a party like the Bloc because they represent what is best for themselves, not what is best for the country, is simply wrong. JFK of course said "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". So what the hell is this? -
Elizabeth May's mixed messages
Moonlight Graham replied to capricorn's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yes, May did sell-out her party. Though it can be argued she did it for the good of the country, in her opinion. Elizabeth May is an odd duck. Why the heck would she run in Peter MacKay’s riding? Did she WANT to lose? She’s ran in a few different ridings around where she’s from in Nova Scotia, plus a by-election in London North Centre, and in the Toronto Star she said she ran in MacKay’s riding because she didn’t want to run against a sitting Liberal or NDP candidate to prevent a Con majority. What the heck? Can this party be taken seriously at all? Why not just join the NDP, Miss May? I respected the Greens, but much not anymore. Along with her hints of wanting supporters to vote Liberal to prevent a Con majority, its obvious she cares more about keeping the Cons from power than gaining it herself. Maybe i should admire her for that? But as the leader of a national party, she shouldn’t crap on her party & supporters she did.
