You're seriously blaming Canada for the situation and giving Palestinians a free pass? Zionism goes back a lot longer than WWII. Read your history and do your homework. Every 2-state negotiation has failed since 1947 because Palestinian leaders will not accept final borders with Israel because they do not want Israel to exist in any form whatsoever. Their goal is the complete elimination of Israel and they won't EVER stop attacking Israel until this happens. Not in a thousand years.

Are you comfortable and prepared to import hatred and antisemitism? Bringing in 5000 Gazans will guarantee that 100%. Are you willing to accept the responsibility for supporting that decision? The dancing in the streets of Toronto on Oct 7 and shooting at Israeli schools and firebombing synogogues etc? You can explain why these Jewish families have to live with more of that. All for what? Why can't Arab countries take in 5000? They sure as heck would never take in any Jews.

Canada screens people for health/disease and past criminal record (according to the government records of their country of origin). For refugees, nothing else than that. Most Gazans are taught in school and from their parents from a young age to hate Jews and Israel, to cheer their deaths and Hamas. There are many Arab neighbours perfectly capable of taking in Gaza refugees. Canada could help refugees escape, provide humanitarian aid, transportation, possibly provide temporary refuge. The number of permanent residents from Gaza that Canada should accept is probably zero, unless there's some method of weeding the good from the bad, which there isn't. Canada should be in the business of eliminating racial and religious hatred from its society, not importing it. If Arab countries couldn't take them in it would be a different situation.

A fifth column can only act on behalf of a foreign country. Republicans wouldn't qualify. You swore an oath to the Queen and her heirs and successors. You didn't swear an oath to a person per say, you're swearing an oath to a title, the monarch, the bearer of the Crown. The person, Charles or Elizabeth, have no lawmaking power, and they're supposed to remain apolitical. They're the head of state, it is for ceremony and tradition now. The Brits took the rest of the power away from the monarch centuries ago before Canada was even a country. But all power of the state vests in the Crown, for tradition and symbolism's sake. All laws are the King's laws, but none of them are decided by them. The monarch is the personification of the state itself, as a symbol. King Charles represents Canada in flesh and blood. -

There's no "Canadian oath of allegiance to the British Crown". It literally doesn't exist except in your imagination. The Canadian Crown reigns in our constitution. Long live the King! But start a new religion and believe whatever fables you wish you convince yourself of. -

The only thing I said it was is that it's not called "the British Commonwealth". They share or shared the same monarch, that is all. There is no British monarch in Canada. British citizenship has no title here. They can't vote in federal elections here. Only Canadians. If you don't want to be a Canadian anymore then do the honorable thing and give up your citizenship and leave, instead of trying to break up the country on behalf of a foreign nation. You're a fifth column. -

There is no "British Crown" in North American. It died in America in 1776, and Canada in 1953. https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/crown-canada/monarch.html You don't even seem to know what the commonwealth is. I can assure you it's not called "The British Commonwealth", as no such entity exists. I laugh at all the Brits I talk to who think we're still a British colony. The Brit imperialists are so smug and class-based, "Canadians" being of a lower class to them of course. -

So you're a republican and a monarchist? 😂 You have no loyalty to the monarch of Canada if you seek to break up their country. A Canadian by convenience it sounds like. -
I think it's increasingly clear that any UN body controlled by the General Assembly is apt to be corrupt due to the GA being made up of mostly dictatorship countries. Harper was criticized for wanting to defund and leave parts of the UN. Looks like he was right. We owe him an apology on that. John McCain wanted to create a League of Democracies. I still agree with this.

Poilievre vs Trudeau/Jagmeet -Problem
Moonlight Graham replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Harper had some scandals, like proroguing Parliament to silence debate and accountability. He had increasing issues with heavy handed control on his party. A reason he had to go. Martin inherited Chretiens scandals, those Liberals had to go. Trudeau had to go a couple of elections ago. With 24/7 news and social media it usually seems to take a true narcissist to want to be leader now. Who else would want all that attention? Some people want to be rock stars. -
You don't reward a terrorist massacre and ongoing hostage crisis with calls for statehood. This only incentivizes that activity. Nor do you ever give statehood to a government bent on Israel's destruction. Has nothing been learned from Israel's deoccupation and elections in Gaza in 2005? Calls for restraint in Rafah are fine.

People who switch from Liberals to CPC, especially these days, I see as questionable, since they are so opposite ideologically and policy-wise. What could have changed within his mind since 2021 to want to be a CPC member instead of wanting to join the NDP? The guy is probably just looking for power and wants to sit with a winner, no different than in 2021. Given the sexual assault thing also AND failing to report it, the guy sounds like a POS. In conclusion, he would make a fine Member of Parliament.
-
He has the vibe of a guy who is dejected and checked out. Pretty clear they won't run him in the election next year, they may be timing his resignation closer to the election so the new leader doesn't get blamed for any of the mess in his wake. Maybe a Fall or even Spring 2025 Liberal leadership race. If I were a Liberal I definitely wouldn't put my hat in if I had any serious ambitions.

Pro-Hamas Rallies in Canada
Moonlight Graham replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This assumes the Palestinians and their leadership want peace. History just doesn;t back this up, going back a century. Peace for most of the them means Zionism and the Israeli state is eradicated from the reigion and 100% of the land is back in control of Muslims. They will never, ever accept a 2-state solution longterm. These are children playing in the sandbox and unable to share. -

My general stance on the 2020 indigenous railroad blockades, trucker convoy, anti-Israel protests, and all other protests are consistent: illegal actions during protests should not be tolerated and the laws should be enforced, including fines/arrests if they won't stop. My level of personal support for their causes is irrelevant to their breaking the law. The reason why i'm the harshest on these anti-Israel protestors is because there's quite a number of them all over the US and Canada on video chanting and cheering support for genocide, mass murder/rape/hostage-taking, and ethnic cleansing as well as engaging in ethnic discrimination. This is not comparable to being illegally parked and honking horns to annoy people. -

1. Why do you keep misconstruing my arguments in all of your replies and creating strawmen? Please stop this. I'm talking about the protests too. 3. Since virtually none of the convoy folks were chanting Nazi slogans or brandishing Nazi symbols etc then generally no. Were a few of them Nazis? Probably. I think I saw one or 2 people with Confederate flags, though they were in a pickup truck, not a big-rig, so probably outside agitators. Were there some far-right folks among the convoy? Yes i'm sure there was. That one guy sounded like a nut, and they stopped some guns at the border. 4. I'm objectively against pro-genocide pro-terrorism supporters and racial harassment/discrimination. Are you against those things? Or would you prefer to stay silent about them? You seem to have a strong opinion on my comments, but no opinion of protestors supporting and calling for more Oct 7 events and ethnic genocide. But go ahead, sit on the fence and claim "objectively". Would you have done that during the civil rights movement in the 60's too or during the WWII holocaust? -
Pro-Hamas Rallies in Canada

I just specifically explained to you how I don't see this issue in a binary way and never have and then you completely ignored it and accused me of classifying politics in a binary way, which is absolutely ridiculous and based on no evidence. Do you see me on Team Biden or Team Trump? Do you see me on team Trudeau or Team Poilievre (who I have always despised as a slimy weasel)? Did you see me on Team Convoy or Team Anti-convoy? Absolutely not. I already explained that I agreed with the mandates the convoy were protesting but disagreed with their illegal protest methods and always maintained that the truckers should have been fined and/or arrested. But you have ignored all of this. The same thing should happen to the anti-Israel protestors. Protesting the alleged genocide (which could very well be happening, but a legal investigation needed IMO) is fine, and wanting divestment? Ok sure protest for that if you want, but their methods are against school regulations and the law, including Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act which makes illegal racial/religious discrimination on campuses. They don't own the campus, can't block people from classes, aren't allowed to pitch tents unauthorized, can't put up barricades and physically block people to keep out those with the wrong views or wrong ethnicity, just like the truckers don't own the streets of downtown Ottawa. If Nazis marched down the streets of this country shouting and cheering genocidal antisemitic violence like some of these anti-Israel protestors are, would you accuse someone of being "black and white" for being revolted by it? Disliking Nazis doesn't mean you dislike all Germans. If there were recent German immigrants in Canada in the 1930's and a lot of them were Nazis then yes I would also want all of them who were chanting threatening genocidal Nazi chants deported There is no difference here. None. You want to pin me down as a characture in your own mind, leaving you as "objective". You're the one who is biased here, not me. One thing offends your politically correct sensibilities and the same thing happening by a different group doesn't. That's a you problem, not a me problem. I have consistent ethics regardless of the race, religion, ethnicity, but you don't, and I can say the same about a lot of progressives these days who have double-standards for everyone based on some victim hierarchy. -
