  4. Hi JC, while I think that communities need to network for this function, it would be great if the CBC functioned as a federal community network, rather than a crown corporation, if it is for that reason. It'd be nice to see more of a PBS like CBC (even if it didn't replace the CBC. I really think that crown corporations should be self funding or operate from donations. So as to allow for reduced taxation. Or ideally 0 taxation. Even a "tax deduction" instead of for political parties but for crown corporations would allow direct funding of tax appropriation that is the tax payer decides where their money goes.. 40 billion dollar jets or the cbc, etc.. Much like the Radio station I am a volunteer at 100.3 Sound FM in Waterloo, community based radio is required to be "self funded", sadly as 100.3 is a definate example of how funds arn't always there. Sound is in dire need of funding to continue operations and must raise $4000 or more a month just to meet the bills. Needing to pay for an auditor for charitable status makes it even more difficult for these small corporations.. they can't even get the charitable status because they can't afford the auditor not because they don't want to but that auditor is a month of paying the bills just to get the status. http://soundfm.ca/ CBC has a funding of over $1.5 billion/year that is over 30,000 of our tiny radio stations. That is one radio station per 1000 people on the funding of the cbc for a year. While I think that organizations such as the CBC are important JC local community radio stations and federal and international media networks for community programming and news be it independent media local media or major news stories or segments are all things we should not loose sight of, we need to understand that we need multiple sources of media and many inputs and shares of information to insure that we have reliable information community based information and trusted news sources and people of experience so we can raise the creme and have the best programming resources available. If you donate to a local media outlet you are helping, and in many cases these are charitable organizations thus a tax deduction. I don't support taxes for anything but essential services. A means of government communication should definately exist, but I think that this requirement resting only on one organization such as the CBC is not sufficient, as if that station were to be disrupted you would not have news. That is why "networking" of radio stations in groups such as NCCRA are useful. We can't focus solely on the CBC it would be great if donations poured in for community stations, or the federal government funded more community based programing, including northern areas. CBC is suppose to be the cream of public media. Yet I see US programming on it. That is where it has gone wrong.. american programming. http://arts.nationalpost.com/2011/01/26/vive-la-difference-cbc-moves-away-from-u-s-programming/ What we need is all that dead air filled with community based programming. Why watch reruns of the same shows at night when community based programming could fill the air waves instead of that same 3 year old episode of the mercer report. Nothing against mercer but a 4x rerun is overkill. A CBC model is one that should actively network and cooperate with community tv and radio, newsprint and other forms around Canada and the world to get low cost good content on a nationally broadcast medium. I'm not seeing that, fund it but spread the wealth. We need to understand though Media is politicized. One can only hope with active community involvement local media can be representative of the community likewise local communities can share with one another on a national basis.
  5. Unfortunately this measure is not enough. 1. Elections Canada should have no recognition of "party status" everyone should run as independent in the eyes of the law. Political parties should be treated as corporations if they want legal entity status. No priveleges whatsoever should exist on a party basis. They still get tax refunds.. and individual donations are funded 30% that is not a 2$ per vote that is money wihtout voting.. that is 3$ of a 10$ payment or 5$ of a 10$ WHY SHOULD THE PUBLIC BE GIVING MONEY BACK FOR A SERVICE? CUT ALL FUNDING FROM THE TAX PAYERS.. THIS PER VOTE THING IS JUST TO FAVOUR ONE TYPE OF FUNDING OVER DIRECT DONATION REBATES>> THE RABATES COST MORE!~!!! SHAME ON HARPER FOR THIS WHOLEY PARTISAN AND UNFULLFILLING UNFINISHING FAILURE OF A MOVE .. CUT IT ALL.. not just the parts that give other people a break. SHAME ON HARPER! Donations shouldn't be capped but the public shouldn't rebate them. Likewise all legal entities should be able to pay people or transfer funds.. THE PUBLIC SHOULDN'T BE PICKING UP HALF THE PRICE TAG THOUGH! SHAME ON HARPER AND HIS 10 MILLION DOLLAR CONSERVATIVE TAX. CT... END THE CT. That 50 cents from everyone because other people like them. a 2 million of them.. maybe they should pay in whole not as a tax break... END THE TAX BREAK FOR DONATIONS RESPECT THE VOTERS. THE TAX BREAKS FOR GIVING MONEY TO PARTIES SHOULD END FIRST!! SHAME !!! Conservatives stealing from your pocket and public purse.... What lowbies.. taking more than the other parties from your wallet whether you vote for them or not. SHAME Conservatives need handouts from the poor taxpayer joe public. Conservative Party the Welfare Party vote Welfare vote conservative. SHAME. If the government wants to help the parties PAY FOR A FREE AUDITOR OR ASSIGN THE CRA TO AUDIT CAMPAIGNS TO FULLFILL THE CONSTITUTIONAL OBLIGATION TO ALLOW THE ABILITY TO RUN FOR PUBLIC OFFICE UNLIKE THE FARCE OF PUTTING A MULTI THOUSAND DOLLAR BARRIER ON DEMOCRACY (along side a professional non governmental accredidation group on the right to run for office due to the UNCONSTITUTIONAL ELECTIONS CANADA ACT) IN UNCONSTITUTIONAL CANADA. MAKE RUNNING FOR ELECTIONS FREE DON"T GIVE PEOPLE WITH THE MONEY TO RUN IT BACK IF THEY ARE PART OF A PARTY THAT IS HYPOCRISY.. DIRECT FUNDING FOR ELECTIONS NOT FUNDING FOR PARTIES WHO WIN ELECTIONS CORRUPTION SLIME AND SCAM THEIVES AND CROOKS BOOO SHAME

  7. NATO IS A DEFENSIVE ORGANIZATION>> COLLECTIVE DEFENCE>>> NOT COLLECTIVE OFFENSE. ITS ROLE IS DEFUNCT AS THE SOVIETS ARE NOW UNITED RUSSIA NO MORE USSR. ONLY RUSSIA.
  8. I find it funny that Saadi Gaddafi is called in by INTERPOL for "intimidation while heading the Libyan Soccer Leauge" but totally doesn't do anything in regard to the fact he was a special forces commander in Libya accused of cracking down on protesters. The red card on "intimidation" / "extortion" --- while involved in the Libyan Football League YET>... NOTHING FOR his role as a special forces commander... seems odd... any other sports administrators get carded by INTERPOL?
  9. THIS THREAD IS IN THE WRONG FORUM.. US POLITICS OR US/CANADA RELATIONS OCCUPY WALL STREET IS NOT CANADIAN FEDERAL POLITICS.
  10. the ramming is different when you are making things easier rather than tougher. tougher equates loss of personal liberties.. which is anticonstitutional as canada is suppose to be a free society life liberty and security of person section 7 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Section_Seven_of_the_Canadian_Charter_of_Rights_and_Freedoms it seems more fit to shutter parliament under this threat than one of democracy and free association "Section 7 rights can also be violated by the conduct of a party other than a Canadian government body. The government need only be a participant or complicit in the conduct threatening the right, where the violation must be a reasonably foreseeable consequence of the government actions." I think the view is clear "The purpose of this Act is to deter terrorism by establishing a cause of action that allows victims of terrorism to sue perpetrators of terrorism and their supporters." did personal damage suits not previously exist?
  11. Commorants recently had 160+ million pumped into them for spare parts, now it seems for the last 3 years the v22 is in the sights. http://thechronicleherald.ca/Canada/1265705.html I have to say I think current models of the v22 are a bad deal they really arnt that safe, thus nOT suited for sar operations. While trw is not bad perimse I think that the v22 is a very bad model (and 30 years old) to be looking into for sar " The Joint Personnel Recovery Agency issued a report that said that a common helicopter design would be needed for both combat recovery and medical evacuation and that the V-22 would not be suitable for recovery missions because of the difficulty of hoist operations and lack of self-defense capabilities.[114]" the worst part it ain't canadian THESE things also cost 110 million a piece (atleast 50) what about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikorsky_S-92 note the ". The CH-148 Cyclone is a shipboard maritime helicopter variant currently under development for the Canadian Forces. From February 2009, " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CH-148_Cyclone really though canada should be looking at companie ssuch as where are they? that is it right there no national helicopter company
  12. Yeah I disconnected the line this summer. Back to the stone age for me. It is "up" to... $65 a year in savings is going to kick back in on lower health care costs, cleaner energy adds up to savings in other areas, and helps contribute to a sustainable future. It will lower costs, by allowing less overhead in other areas such as health and welfare. It is also going to create jobs. That 65$ goes to peoples employment which in turn is taxed back into the system. 50,000 jobs is a lot of money. Actually it MAKES MONEY.. see 65$ into $20,000 is about 300 people, or for $40,000 is 615 people. Now, this 500 or so people equals one persons salary.. now, for 50,000 people we get a payrate that is far higher than the per capita cost of the increase (something like 30 million people to support the salaries.) What this means is that for every dollar put in $10 is returned toward employment. THATS RIGHT.. this will multiply the employment by 10x... every dollar will bring back 10$ in employment. Of which will return $2 or $3 to the government meaning this 7 billion dollars will return somewhere around 14 to 23 billion to the government, and that is only indirect costs. The savings in other areas are dramatic in health care, due to less pollution, in the conversion to electric vehicles, and so many other areas.. this is a MONEY MAKER... and that 65$ can easily be rebated, as the government has already rebated people on their hydro bills.
  13. I just got to say I'm suprised they keep adding new catagories to the whole sex thing... intersexed? TWO SPIRITED??? I remember when gay was special. These new special sex leaning abilities make gay seem normal and this after they patented Queer. ---- I don't think it is corruption but I've always been against sex education in schools. I think it creates exposures to mature materials at ages far too young. It is like teaching welding to 3 year olds. It really belongs in highschool as an optional course. Much like "Drug Education". It creates a subculture that implants both as "normal activities" instead of attempts to actually prevent them... and if that is their purpose it really is a rape of innocence. There are young users. It is up to parents to protect their kids, and for the schools system to insure a safe school ground by nazi like spying, cameras and chemical analyzers. Handing out condoms in schools is just as bad as allowing sex during school hours on school property. These are private issues and really have no place in the school system, it creates a void of curiousity for those who "rebel" It is totally backward policy. And both are serious public issues. The fact I learned in class the whole sex ed talk completely ruined my birds and bees chat with my father. I sincerely feel that it really didn't belong in elementary school, it is something that should have been explained at home. For negligent parents it is something that there should be more community involvement in. Like mail pamphlets and get people to test on it if it is part of the curriculum. There are safety measures to take but I think that anything involving sex and minors is almost akin to counselling to commit a sex act indirectly. Minors are too messed up to be trusted with such serious knowledge. Protection is much different then expecting self restraint from a minor. Personally I did not have enough maturity as a youth to trust myself to protect myself ---- reality is not fully formed.... kids can't be trusted, I don't think they have really formed a strong enough world view to apply that sort of knowledge. Also people who don't get A's may only remember some parts like the name of the drug rather than the side effects, or how to have sex rather than how to utilize protection. In school drug tests and monitoring, police reporting/investigation are far more effective and/or monthly checkups.
  14. I think its considerate right up there with not hiding bacon in the salad or calling it "fake" bacon when it is real bacon. A bit like giving a sub to a vegan and saying it is "fake meat" when in fact it comes from Daisy (or just saying I know you are vegan and saying it is real meat). Or telling someone they are eating non dairy product when in fact is contains milk product. The Ontario government needs to start somewhere, at least it is with Muslims, maybe the corrections system/police can get on the things I mentioned for other people. As a jew what would it be like if every meal contained milk and meat? It is good people are looking out for peoples religious backgrounds... not nearly enough is done, and this is just the tip of the iceberg. Its people who oppose these things that are racist and really should have no voice in any public decision. Far too many people are religiously non aware of other cultures and religions.. the government really does need to educate the public service on these issues, and I applaud them for it.
  15. 4 minutes a page is not a lot to ask. http://parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?Docid=5124131&file=4 I have no fing clue what is in this and I consider myself above lay Act to enact the Justice for Victims of Terrorism Act and to amend the State Immunity Act, the Criminal Code, the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Corrections and Conditional Release Act, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and other Acts This is a massive status quo shift. There is quite a difference in making an act and making an act to amend multiple acts. This is also a "money bill" meaning the senate has nothing to do with it.. and the costs are "non material" the bill is an unlimited funnel. This is not legal. The bill is out of order. appropriation of public revenue under the circumstances, in the manner and for the purposes set out in a measure entitled Absolutely rediculous ammendments like rename the National Parole Board as the Parole Board of Canada.... what the hell does that have to do with getting tough on crime, it is a waste of ink also amends the Criminal Records Act to substitute the term “record suspension” for the term “pardon” ... this is totally just cluster fing nonsense.. Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness may consider in deciding whether to consent to the transfer of a Canadian offender. political interference. International law states extradition is from judiciary to judiciary, the political side of things does not meet with Canada's international treaty obligations. This is seriously infringing independence of the judiciary. "allow officers to refuse to authorize foreign nationals to work in Canada in cases where to give authorization would be contrary to public policy considerations that are specified in instructions given by the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration" absolutely out of order. This bill is nothing but an executive veto -- one that is contrary to the legal basis of Canada. Canada has no force of law over foreign nationals outside of Canada. Canada's jurisdiction does not extend to foreign states -- in this respect the change of law has no legal force. The measure is a violation of the UN charter. This measure is very wrong as a retrosepctive declaration of war -- it is very very imprudent. sooooo loooong
  16. That's the 1812 spirit! U'll be UEL in no time, good stuff.
  17. dna test first then I ship the crossbow no man they kill my flesh god will damn them and if they are delivered to my power i will relish the slow castration and flaying (if women like fish on spools)
  18. no spending more money is not an improvement it is actually the opposite. improvement is getting more for less. and dropping bombs in libya.. not improvement just stating what money is being spent on that is not improvement, those bombs would be 50 new striker ifvs and a 500 -1000 person mobile division
  19. while I wouldn't say shove a needle up his bum , I would say it is not acceptable, and the route cause is psychosis. Premeditated murder for non defensive purposes is also mental fraility. At the very least it is loss of contact with the moral and human basis of civilized social interaction, many crimes of moral turpitude are mental failings due to lack of knowledge or aberancy of mind or social upbringing - only rehab or death will resolve that. Punishing a psychotic is counter productive..
  20. you misunderstand --- I'm refering to the person who proposed the reasoned ammendment to delete every page of the 100 page bill. it is the funniest thing Ive read out of parliament in a while. (I laughed .....twice in three or four bursts...) (I'm still chuckling)
  21. There is always room for improvement. :collective defence: equates being the badguy because canada is constantly at war where as for canada's ideal foreign affairs position is non interventionist and has nothing to personally gain in the wars that expend billions of dollars. problem 2 is major purchases are foriegn tech at the cost of supportung canada local nationally owned industry -- which has resulted in us defence companies buying out canadian defence firms. Mexico's model is far better for canada than the us model - canada would gain from an alliance with latin america and the caribean and dumping nato. the model is all wrong it is just wasting money in wars that threaten canadas long term peace and security.
  22. "Van Loan's time allocation motion was provoked by a Liberal attempt last week to delay the legislation by a "reasoned amendment" which would have deleted every page of the more than 100-page bill." http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/09/27/pol-omnibus-pushthru.html Sounds like this is right around the corner.
  23. no sorry terrorist financing by private companies is illegal. Canada is a terrorist finacier of al qaeda, should the state department put them on a no fly list and freeze their assets??
  24. He didn't do anything wrong. 1. It was the Harper Government that approved the flights. 2. It was the advisory on the use of flights that approved the flights. In direct line they would be in error not him. I think he would be in a conflict of interest in making those decisions himself, and it doesn't appear that was the case, end of story. End of story. If there is any "controversy or problem" here, it is the Harper Government that is the problem.
