http://www.ctvbc.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20110917/bc_irs_targeting_dual_citizens_110917/20110917?hub=BritishColumbiaHome I'm just stunned the US is harassing people - and putting out information contrary to existing tax treaties between Canada and the US. WORSE they have contacted Canadian Banks in contravention of Canadian Privacy laws and threatened them for information on their customers... what is going on with this? http://www.fin.gc.ca/treaties-conventions/usa_-eng.asp Check this out re 2013.... US law over Canadian banks... The US GOVERNMENT HIRE ACT ( that they say governs Canadian Banking Practice --- since when does the US government pass acts on how Canadian Financial Institutions Operate???) http://goo.gl/rI4O What I don't get is, how do they know to ask if they are US citizens if they don't know if they are American? Can't wait to see the ANTISPAM MAILING LAWS ENACTED TO FINE THE IRS http://www.email-marketing-reports.com/canspam/canada/ Wonder how many unauthorized mailings were sent.. that could add up. Passive revenue for the Canadian Government

$10,000 they wouldn't need to pay? I agree though an equal tax dollar basis is really the only fair way to do it. However in the case of shell schools you could basically get $10,000 for "home schooling" your kid or putting them into a "learning cooperative". Where all that money is profit rather than education related spending. IN this way the quality of education per tax dollar may be less and it would thus effect the overall economy potentially. In the event that person x didn't even pay 10000 in taxes it means they get money from the system they didn't put in taking money away from those who did put into the system.

Yes I did apparently. Post .wav or .mp3 etc.. files if you are going for the sound of your voice. This is a text based medium. I'm actually contemplating this myself, as I have a new mic provided from an educational grant. No more cts fears, just uploading to youtube etc.. all my posts and a link to a video on youtube. Of course I do have more direct applications intended.

The private boards are the ones who set the extra fees, it is their option, it is not forced by the government, they get the same per student funding as public schools. NOTE THIS IS A PROVINCIAL ISSUE NOT FEDERAL http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/general/elemsec/privsch/ http://www.ourkids.net/school/article.php?id=8 50% off $20 registration, is $20 for education really breaking the bank? http://www.ourkids.net/expo/register.php Our Kids gives financing suggestions: http://www.ourkids.net/expo/seminars-and-speakers.php Financial Advice: How to pay for private school A seminar you cannot afford to miss! Join our panel of experts as they unravel the mysteries of educational financing and paying for private school. Learn how to work education costs into your budget while gathering details about incentives such as scholarships, bursaries and financial aid. The bottom line here is, that people from all types of backgrounds have done these things. The bottom line here is, there are options. http://www.ourkids.net/toronto-private-schools.php The rates may seem like a lot in some cases and it is. Some of these rates are hoewver boarding options too. (I do support tax credits for private school equal to the per student rate) http://www.experienceboarding.ca/school-profile.php?id=39 The cost to Ontario tax payers is about $7700 / year per student. So depending on the school most or all of the costs fall within the range of the public board fees (however some are 2x or 3x that cost. (however in some cases these are boarding schools) This may be a $3000-$5000 markup in some cases for a very low student teacher threshold and in Bronte's case a 98% university placement rate. This compared with a "staggering although may be off a bit 20% dropout rate for Canada" Private schools are either business or not for profit, they set their rates. It is a value added service. People arn't being denied an education except for students who are forced to leave school. Even expelled students have options: www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/safeschools/NeedtoKnowExp.pdf Education is expensive even if you arn't paying for it yourself. Foreign students are paying well over $10,000 up here for tuition alone. (where scholarships don't apply) While costs are still low compared to the US not everyone is privileged to have a free education of their choosing there are controls on both sides of the table. It really has nothing to do with the government. Just be happy they are paying your way if you have a free education. While I think there are ample program options to roll out to enhance a 0 cost education to the student at that time, there really needs to be a social contract between the student and the person paying their way through school, so that it is mutually fair, not just a one way street. I think that is the focus that should be taken, programs that attend to this issue but if not line of credit or student loans for post secondary, why can't you expect the same for secondary or elementary for those seeking a program of their choice rather than the public system? (Personally I am very thankful the government pays for all my costs of living and education) - It will be interesting if they will pay for more than one term per year... if the liberals win ontario and introduce the new 30% tuition reduction scheme. None the less I have no complaints with how it works. Even if they pay, you still need to get in to their limited class allotment programs. The more people "able to go" the less people get in. Hell there are "low cost" private schools outside of Canada if you really want to go.
-
False. The Ministry gives equal funding to both private and public schooling, it is based on a levy per student. Both get the same funding per student. I don't get why Americans are posting in a Canadian Federal politics thread when they don't even know how the system works, and they are talking as if they know the deal, it is absolute nonsense.

BTW there are ample sources for more canadians support Palestine thing.. however they are becoming harder to find, due to a lot of new posts stating Canada is against Palistine (refering to the Canadian government's position, rather than popular opinion polls etc.. indicating the opposite view. Is the canadian left anti-Semitic
William Ashley replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hey man I'm not arming them myself. The thing here is though that you automatically bring up "Palestine" in a discussion about antisemitism. I hate that term it should be antiJewish, or anti-Israel, as palestinians are semites too. Are Palestinians suddenly a state? With responsibilities under international law? Last I checked they were either in Arab homelands being occupied by Israel, or part of territories illegally annexed by Israel. The two don't line up until later this week.Maybe we should just hold the discussion on Palestine, Israel and the brothelbes until later this week. If you don't know there were "graduated controls" on the Palestinians, most were refugees who fled from war or by agreements that would see them have rights and automony in certain areas --- Israel pushing the Arabs out of their homes "within "Israel" then the Israelis started moving into the areas they pushed them into. The Arab council originally controlled the "Arab areas", and of course a state of war. These controls changed hands, whilst Israel and the PLO under Arafat started to deal with the US on a "roadmap" this seems though that someone lost the map, and the driver ran over the passenger, backed up did it again then carried on their way forward. None the less Arafat died and the ball kept rolling, all the fun with the changing faces of groups like Fatah from the 80's into present day "next to Jordan" - going home.. and of course the professionalizing of HAMAS into a almost surface political party (while membership holds between incursions by Israel and mass arrests of party members in the Palestinian Ghetto. Anywho... the thing here is that you can't really pigeonhole a Palestinian, the whole Arab/Jewish Palestinian/Jewish thing has matured and evolved. There are still "issues" but you can only squeeze balls so long before they pop. What does it matter at that point. Get it though that Israel was founded by Terrorists too. All the fun with Ben Gurion etc.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Ben-Gurion they stop calling you a terrorist when you have a government. At worst you get called corrupt, and a human rights abuser after that. Just pull up the "national security" card and you have a rug handy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1948_Palestinian_exodus http://israelipalestinian.procon.org/view.resource.php?resourceID=000636 -
It comes at a cost. There are lots of people out there willing to tutor people. You don't need to go to high school, and home schooling is an option also. People can take the GED equivalency for their secondary education also. There are many alternative education options out there, but vary on your locality. There are even new programs finding their way into Ontario such as Montessori based learning programs. the boards often make up the rules for their own schools. They are given the "minimun" requirements, but they have wiggle room. Most of the stuff like knowing english, math, and basic science, a little french, and knowing a bit about health and fitness, don't seem like bad goals. Its really not that much, when compared to say college or university. Well teachers have something to aim for. Students don't have to learn, also many high schools have ISUs that allow the freedom of self study. The amount of learning in the classroom at the secondary or elementary levels are very minimal, as compared to the post secondary level. Education has taken a long time to evolve to its current state. There are many many options out there. There is the standard, but there are options for individuals who don't want to conform to the mainstream public system. It is not forced on people. There is a market in education, the vast majority choose the public system. I need to restate though there are many options for education, and home schooling is an option. The requirements for GED and homeschooling are very minimal. I should state I moved a lot as a kid also, every year or two right up until grade 7, which I continued into 8 different schools/programs before I graduated from high school (even though I live in the same place between grade 6 and graduation). I think I'm definitely someone who has enjoyed school though more or less. I've always had a positive outlook on things. Still now in post secondary studies I still enjoy learning. There are even self study options as the post secondary level. Independent Studies programs, masters programs, and doctorates that allow a lot of independent study. So I really don't agree with your position, I think it is a false dichotomy due to not knowing what the options really are. I think though it is after the fact. What is really the point is that there is not enough education about alternative learning methods for parents. There are people who home school or put their kids in alternative programs (Even within my own relatives) Fact is the grass isn't always greener, and it works for most. The key to education is keeping task focused, and good sleep habits, proper nutrition and health and avoiding screwing around, just get it done, that's all there is to it. http://www.ontariohomeschool.org/ http://www.ehow.com/video_4950097_i-homeschool-ontario-canada.html http://www.ontariohomeschool.org/highschool.html Unfortunate to a certain extent a lot of kids don't have parents, or parents who care, or know how, to reinforce the values they need to be successful and involved in their education while being successful and happy in academic pursuits. Heh, its better than nothing though eh, back to the day of paper boys and chimney sweeps. IT seems positively progressive over the long haul, what would you seek to improve or change?

Is the canadian left anti-Semitic
William Ashley replied to PIK's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It isn't a left right thing. There are neonazi's who are on the right, Aryan Guard sorts etc.. who get lumped in as "anti Semitic" I hate that term though because Arabs are Semites too. It should be called anti-Jewish, not anti Semitic. I'd just like to state I am not antisemitic nor anti-Jewish, although I do criticize Israel (as a state) a lot. I actually rather like many Jews and have no bias against the Jewish religion (It is actually the religion closest to my own, but I'm more on the free the goat side, rather than the slit its throat side" of things (I'm more Pre-Adonai and holistic in my beliefs). The reason I criticize Israel quite often is that I support human rights, rule of law, and proportional response. Israel often positions itself against those values - so it is not the idea of "Israel" necessarily that I am upset with, I often am upset with the acts of the Israeli government, their positions, and their international activities such as ignoring international boundaries, assassination, other war crimes, ignorance of international law, and "unequal treatment" of Israeli's within Israel (a non equal segregated state based on religious affiliation) I needed to clear that up that Jews are fine by me, and any criticism of Israel is due to their position and activities not as an anti Zionist statement. (Everyone deserves a home - but I would have picked Madagascar over the levant personally speaking.(Such easily defined borders - the ocean) relatively defensible with a navy or US/British EUropean naval supports etc.. Its a different timeline of course, but the rationality doesn't make full sense to me its almost like asking for the world to end to play into John . So no I don't think it is a left right issue on anti Semitic, actually the Right wing is far more biased in terms of racism because the left believes in "fairness, equality, and human rights, this includes anti racism" So no, it is a trait of the right wing to be racists because it is traditional and the right wing upholds traditional values, paternalism, statist control, corporatist mentality etc.. . A easy way to frame it is to just think, there is nothing new about the right. -
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5hs2tpcWDsdpC4srAoldoyouUcMNQ?docId=CNG.b6d207691ba28c0711d32cc4f2496bd7.4f1 Once again like Afghanistan, the majority of Canadians support Palestine yet, the Harper Government says no. I think this is definately another snub at the majority of Canadians. The reality of this bid is that it would give Palestine an equal footing rather than inferior status. The only way you have peace is when it isn't in anyones interest to attack. Because Palestine is defensible, give me a freaken break. It seems like Israel would sooner give me west jerusalem before the PLO I think that the west has a real chance of looking like the bastards they are by this time next week. It is a historical blunder on the image of western europe and America (and its Canadian satalite) Sarkozy showed himself to be "out of touch with palestine" stating they wouldn't do it. Not only are they doing it but they are also going to put it up to the UN security council not only for observer status but outright membership. Even with the US yanking its aid bottle as a threat of asking for rights. Israel is out of touch on the fact of the occupation and millions of arabs and palestinians living within Israels occupation zone. They are indefensible now, they will be indefensible regardless of their situation, hence the billions of dollars of military spending each year, and the mandatory service in the military by its Jewish population) as it is a state of appartheid, run by its masterace of jews.. The only doubt in my mind is if Turkey will have the balls to confront the world on the aid flotilla issue whenever it arises. It would be far more symbolic to have the flotilla on the day of the proposed state recognition. http://kiaoragaza.wordpress.com/2011/06/24/freedom-flotilla-3-may-sail-after-ramadan-august/

Black and the Order of Canada
William Ashley replied to g_bambino's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I wrote a note intended to reach B. McLachlan on this. I am firmly disgusted that the US justice system is in anyway considered for "The Order of Canada". It was a sham process that ruined a good '' person'' If it (the ongoing events) was such a national interest to Canada they should have extradited him, not put him up in a farce judicial process that even refuted almost all the sham charges levied against him. It seems they hooked the remaining simply to keep him criminal, lest it be an absolute hufa due to wrongful imprisonment and 10's of millions of dollars (if not 100's of millions of dollars' in damages. It is an injustice what Lord Black has been put through. Canada doesn't even consider the equivolent criminal, and the charges don't exist in Canada. I get a bulb of illness in my stomach when I seek to vomit all over the process and how misguided the order could be to even consider a removal of a Canadian honour for a farse process within the US. -
Gap between rich and poor rising faster in Canada
William Ashley replied to Rick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Jacee this actually jogged my memory on the following point: Even though they are wealthy they are not all about maximizing how much they hold, many just utilize the system to have it work for their best interest, as everyone should be doing - getting the most out of the world. (Bearing ethics and the effects on others) The thing though is, this directly reminded me about an article related to Sarkozy and Warren Buffet in France. Warren Buffet was part of a group "Tax Us", ~~~~~ http://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2011/08/wsj-.html ~~~~~ ,that called for an increase in taxation of the rich. So I thought that the whole let them eat cake, thing , they arn't necisarily saying that, but they are willing to share the bread or more of it anyway, in some cases. We can't classify the whole of the wealthy even some of the most as completely ignorant bourgeois bent on colonial oppression of the lesser classes. They could say - adjust their profit margins, and lower the CLI but they feel socialism, and governmental agents as the "protectors" of public interest may be a better option to current low tax rates for the wealthiest. They don't seem to feel personally inclined aside from their own charitable organizations - the government afterall does allow deductions for charity - however even they recognize that they have a lot of money - although in reality it isn't that much wealth --- capitalization is often misrepresented - a lot of things with great value like trees or water often arn't ascribed their "real value" just their current value. Non renewable resources are worth much more now then they are right now, tomorrow, if you don't mind the juttering. Wealth is an idea relative to cultural concepts of wealth. Ownership is a social organization, it is fabricated, however reinforced by common law concepts of property title and rights. When it comes down to it, either you depend on the government to protect your property or you hold your own. If you are the government it makes it easier. You can say as part of a society we hold everything and/or nothing in perpetuity. If your mind is in the right place you are working for tomorrow, not only for yourself, but for the whole of your ideal of society. Qu'ils mangent de la brioche Oddly France has one of the highest tax rates in the world... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Income_Taxes_By_Country.svg It is actually surprising that inheritance taxation is 40% for those very wealthy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taxation_in_France -
Privacy concerns are at the top of the list in the press today about the privacy act needing to be "changed" and less protections on privacy not only to the Harper Government, but also transfer of that information the Harper Government didn't previously have ready access to, now being available also to Uncle Sam. I'm more concerned about joint militry - or US troops in Canada, and even worse US police in Canada on investigations - re FBI "actively" having powers in Canada on a jurisdictional basis. The joint facilities thing is also troubling, why pay for new facilities "outside of Canada" including joint facilities outside both Canada and the US. This is clearly a US security issue, why should Canadians be picking up the cost for US security?

If your vehicile was a business vehicle couldn't you claim it as upkeep on your vehcile and have the cost of the wash tax deductable? Likewise a portion of the lawn mowing might be deductable if it was upkeep if you had a home office for your work, or rented a portion of your property to your kids or inlaws. http://www.bookkeeping-essentials.com/business-vehicle.html Don't quote me on that though. Likewise if you had a "personal assistant" for your business needs perhaps you could get them to wash your car and mow your lawn and deduct the entire amount as an operating expense. http://sbinfocanada.about.com/cs/taxinfo/a/maxtax1_3.htm http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/bsnss/tpcs/slprtnr/bsnssxpnss/menu-eng.html Even if you don't have a business you could always start one. Obama's Protectionist Job Bills Is Bad For Canada
William Ashley replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This should be in the US/Canada forum. Of course Canadian businesses being locked out of US business is bad. What good is an open border if money only flows one way? Or rather what good is another border around Canada so that money only flows one way, rather than having easier dealings with the other countries now Canada is on the verge of becoming a protectorate where the US decides who can travel into Canada. Of course we can buy US goods, but America isn't allowed to buy Canadian goods. Wake the hell up Canada! The US is about itself canada is just a tool, they are using Canada. Americans arn't above stepping all over Canadians, actually they enjoy it. Canadians are grouped in with Gingers to be victims of hate crimes and entertainment via attacks. If it wern't for Moslems Canada would likely be a victim more often. Although you got to ask, just how many Canadian natural resource companies are still Canadian owned... US companies have been buying and scuttling industry here for years now. -
The Maxim, don't put all your eggs in one basket, unless you are a chicken. A prudent profolio will have a mix of assets, whether booked or material. You can store gold under your bed or in your bunker, but when it comes down to it you might need that bank account to pay for your groceries, unless of course you have a farm too etc.. but then what of the tractor. Money is not needed, but it is tied into the modern western life style. Having a gun for the fox may actually be the chickens best investment. What it all means is, finding a good institution whether a credit union or somewhere to cash your checks at face value is a good thing. This is why I'd like to shape the federal service around a bank. THE SECOND BANK (the first bank being the central bank and government sovereign wealth fund.) However if you deal in cheques, it is next to impossible not to have dealings with a bank or use services like money mart that take a chunk of money out of that as a service fee. Its your choice but if you have income in the form of a cheque it is hard not to have dealings with regulated industries.

However sometimes your goods are more secure with someone else that with yourself. Example having a million dollar bill in your pocket whilst in a place known for pickpockets, as opposed to having it in a safebox under someone elses kitchen floor. Although I do think it is always a safer bet to secure things that need secured yourself, this is not always the case. But yes if you depend on others for your security a certain degree of trust is involved.

Edible money. The cree saying: "Only after the last tree has been cut down, only after the last river has been poisoned, only after the last fish has been caught, only then will you find that money cannot be eaten." sparked me on well why not edible money, makes enough sense. There are lots of edible fibres so why not make it edible and like wax coat it or something to seal it. Then in times of hunger you can eat it. Any thoughts on this. It currently costs like 2 cents to make a bill or something, but I figure that currency will hold a real value again rather than just to act as kindling (and the ink burns lousy) so why not multi flavoured bills? Great in famine.. the more you circulate now it acts like a giant grainsilo. You know multi flavoured. Sweet, vegetable, nutty, spearmint etc..
