NDP could support Harper to avoid election
madmax replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
.. don't call me a Lib. Dems fighting werds! .... I have no short memory but you are a hypocrit Conservative. It was because of Chretiens unnecessary election that the Conservative party drafted up an fixed election date. However, the Conservatives just couldn't help themselves from their opportunistic intentions and undermined their own bill. No one was calling for an election other then Conservative Party using $300million dollars of taxpayers monies on nothing more then a Political Parties Gambit. 2008 was the most Unnecessary Election In Canadian History. -
If there were no NDP members in parliment during the 60s, there would be no Canada Health Act. Regardless of whom was in power. It does appear the most progressive pieces of legislation only come in during minority parliments. The 2 Major Parties don't implement that kind of legislation, such as HealthCare, when they hold majority power. Regardless of whether its Social Credit, Progressives, CCFs or NDP, and going back in time, all the other parties of the day, its only when the government is squeezed, that the juice comes out of the lemon.

The Ontario Liberals are an Enigma. I also think they are going down the toilet.

Maybe you think Tommy Douglas was a Liberal?

He certainly has a credibility issue.

That sentiment didn't stop the Conservatives from pulling the plug on their own government. Creating The most Unnecessary Election in Canadian History. -

How about we have the HST on OIL and HYDRO lifted across Canada... Or do you only point fingers at teh Ontario Liberals and not the Federal Conservatives who enjoy taxing Heating Oil and Hydro and brought in this extra tax with the GST and Mulroney then Reinforced it with the HST and Harper never once choosing to take it off Oil and hydro when in power, but not hesitating to implement it, and not hesitating to force the Ontario Liberals to follow their directives and add this tax to those items. Thats called HARMONIZATION -
The CRTC, and Useage Based Billing.
madmax replied to Battletoads's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Interesting reading. I have counted on MLW for interesting discussion. This might be the first thread, where "The Right" looks both confused and conflicted. But one thing is clear, I would want few in this thread to be making any decisions for myself and the internet. Some of the comments here are downright scary, naive and backwards. Luckily the techies got the message, mobilized and the Liberals then the Conservatives fell in line. (Still gotta watch these klowns, keep your eyes on the ball) Charlie Angus was fighting this over 1 year ago because it was the right thing to do. He didn't have to wait for 200,000 petitions to get the message. Tony Clement, obviously was lost in the wilderness, until all the petitions came in, then he "Got it" and good for him. But that doesn't mean he knows his way out. The techies and the General public will keep this ball going in the right direction and UBB will not only die, but Net Neutrality will continue to be fought for. Once again, its nothing personal, its just amusing that the Looney comments, would be more dominate on MLW on this issue. Just a rare anamoly I am certain. The mainstream public are whom us Politically amused are here follow. Not just the political parties or cheap shots on the Media not involved in the dispute vs those that are directly involved in the gravy train ruling. -
I love reading the comments in this thread. I will refer all Liberals to it, whenever they start preaching that the NDP should merge with the Liberals, or Unite the Left or any of that opportunistic garbage. I feel an election in the air. Liberals and NDP are pointing fingers and Conservatives have turned whiney.

The CRTC, and Useage Based Billing.
madmax replied to Battletoads's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
NDP MP Charlie Angus has been all over this issue. I see the Liberals are slowly understanding the CRTC ruling, but that happened after some 200,000 people signed a petition with more and more coming. The Conservatives... Hmmm.. Still waiting.... -
Your post has nothing to do with media bias.

5 years of Harper: Your report card?
madmax replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Report Card... Well, I have to downgrade the Report Card. I was at C. But having taken a straw poll on whether we are better or worse comparing today to 5 years, the people all said, Worse. C downgraded to C - -

Harper's 16 Billion Dollar Fighter Jet Purchase Plan
madmax replied to William Ashley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well said Army Guy. I also don't think Canadians understand that the US has been a trusted defense Partner. Personally, I don't think the timing is good for the purchase of these Aircraft. A case can be made for anything and their is always a need for something. I often think (although I am open to debate on this) that the Airforce tends to get the cream of the crop when it comes to spending, and our other forces are not held with the same level of commitment. -
No its not what anyone is saying, except Liberals. Its why Liberals look like such a bad option today. That has not always been the case. But the public has possibly tired from Liberal Flip Flops. Keeping a Government in power that is doing harm to its citizens with bad policies is worth taking down and falling on your sword if you must. What is the point of passing the POOP and EATING IT, if the consequence is that u lose an election and you have to watch CPCs pass the POOP and EAT IT. Fact is Liberals Supported many of these bad policies, for many reasons. This is not unsual for Liberals to campaign on one side and enact the opposite. However the Hypocritical position of Ignatieff cannot be hidden. And this is the problem. Unlike previous about faces and campaigns.... Free Trade being one (Remember the Liberals wanted Free Trade Style Reciprocity for over 100years) but when the Conservatives changed under Mulroney to Go for it, changing their position after 100+years, it was rather rediculous that Canadians Voted Liberal as an option against Free Trade. Liberal Little Red Book soon lost its luster after 12 years in office. Thus the Liberals can campaign on many things, but to campaign from "the left" on issues such as Corporate Tax cuts, hits the highest levels of Hypocrisy. I don't know whether or not Canadians will bite or not. But I wouldn't trust a Liberal with this issue. And that is the position Ignatieff has decided to lead his party on heading into an election. It would also undermine all the historic tax cutting of Liberal Parties term in office. OF course, don't look at the massive numbers of Corporations that left the country with Billions in their pockets leaving the employees high and dry. And don't look at the Depleted EI funds , which weren't depleted by EI Claims. Just look at the Liberal Party. Thats their benefit package to the Citizens of Canada and the effects of their corporate tax cuts. Or is there a Mea Culpa coming?

Mike Harris The Progressive Conservative Premier, created the Families Responsibilities Office in 1996. It was part of the Common Sense Revolution.

LOL... Its Mr. Canada. Seriously, his points aren't that much different then your own. You waffled in those early threads. You both believe in it for Heinous Crimes, but then all the 'variables" and problems get in the way. Every individual has a different criteria. There is a reason why this is a dead issue in Canada. I am not certain why the Conservatives wanted it in the question format for the PM. All questions are submitted prior to the interview and only those approved are answered. Just saying that any individual could be radicalized into supporting the death penalty if something happened to their family. Just as there are some that I see change their opinion in a victim impact statement. There are some bizzare stories and life is stranger then fiction when it comes to the death Penalty. I don't see the trap door opening. Canadians will stick with the cell door closed.

If I recall correctly the LPC voted with Harper some 150 times in row and received NADA for Canadians. They aided and abetted some really bad policies because they were afraid of an election. In the End Harper Pulled the Plug anyways. Iggy hasn't performed much better, infact its been poorer then Harper and Layton. I believe when Jack Layton was put in the Squeeze play of 2009, he received something for those being hit the hardest in the recession. For the Conservatives to put monies back into EI that they had Diverted away. While its was impossible to get back the $8billion the Conservatives took, just like its impossible to get back the $46Billion the Liberals gave to their corporate friends in Tax cuts, which was monies diverted from EI to give these cuts, the fact is, the NDP didn't have alot of leverage and they got something and the public got something. Something that benefited those in need nationwide and what they had already paid into and created the surpluss. Those Canadians didn't steal/divert those monies. The Liberals and COnservatives did, and while it was "Legal" it was morally wrong. If anyone should have received $56Billion in tax breaks it should have been the Average Canadian, not the Corporations who then through those same Canadians out of work and the Government sat there looking like jackasses with no money in the EI fund cause they gave it away. Iggys been around 2 years. He has flipped flopped and really hasn't a clue what to do. Its more electioneering then policy. And if you can change positions this many times in such a short run, I wouldn't put any faith in the LPC on how they are going to govern. I believe the balls in Harpers court. He will decide if he wants to continue governing or go to the polls. If he wants to go to the polls, there will be nothing on offer to the NDP Conservatives will orchestrate this election date. Other parties will have to wait and see what the Conservatives want to do.

Corporate Tax cuts haven't prevented a single Operation from relocating operations to China, Vietnam, Mexico or anywhere else. It often helps the company move. Regardless of that fact, and lots of other BS that people spew about corporate tax cuts. The Bottom line is corporations will pay less tax. Someone will have to pick up the slack. With regards to local business and local economies. The NDP Government in Manitoba is the First and only Province to have zero per cent small business tax rate. This from the Canadian Federation of Independent Business http://www.newswire.ca/en/releases/archive/November2010/30/c8938.html Never get trapped in 1 or 2 parties propoganda. The public always has to reach out for alternatives to move the ball forward. It may not be the NDP or it may who implement good policy, but often the chimpanzees bang the drum for tweedle dee and tweedle dum regardless of their actions or the net benefit to Canadians.

Ban Senators from Fundraising for Political Parties
madmax replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Going down those lists of Senators, its a list of patronage appointments for Party Operatives and Bagman. Call it a pot, call it whatever u like. You like the concept of the Senate as drafted in the Original BNA. But it never panned out as penned. The rest of the talk about the Senate is more what u would like it to be rather then what it really is. The thread topic is about how the Senate is used as a tool for Political Parties and Not for the Country. That is fact. And thus the kickoff of this discussion. Yet the Senate Defenders like this Practice of Liberals and Conservatives appointing SEnators to then do fundraising for their Parties while being paid by the taxpayer as a Senator. These parties milk the cow and the taxpayer pays and the parties benefit. The defenders of this practice. Are Liberals and Conservatives... So I am not surprised at the responses. The general public, would never miss the Senate. And I wouldn't miss Mike Duffy swinging into to town on the taxpayers dime to raise TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars for the Conservatives while billing us for his trip and meals, and party vacations.
