  1. Correct, he was installed after an Anglo Soviet Invasion during WW2 to replace his Fahhzher.. Might I just add. that 1953 is when the Shah flees and returns after the failed coup attempt and then a successful 2nd attempt.
  2. The HST will create jobs. Harper and McGuinty say so.
  3. AND HE POSTED IT ON JULY the 4th THE HORROR THE HORROR THE HORROR!!! Wait till JBG heres about this. I'm tellin. Besides there is only one Merican I can listen too. I'll flip a coin between the two of you. Cars, I will listen to you. Law. JBG has you beat. Canadian Politics... Both you seem to know alot about our government. But I got CSIS on you!!!
  4. Now that I have enjoyed my Canada Day Holiday. I will comment on the "Politic" you just tossed in for good measure. Have a very Happy Canada Day Would have been Non Political on its own. Its a great message for all of us and a great country we live in. So Kudos to Canada. However.... you just couldn't help yourself with tossing in the Politically Motivated HST. The HARPER SALES TAX came in on July 1st and the Conservatives did a great job of Ramming this down our throats back in December 2009 in 3 short days. Since You wish us a Happy Canada Day and HST Day... You can thank STEPHEN HARPER and the CONSERVATIVE government for this Tax shift.
  5. I think it was to get people talking on a polling thread for what is essentially a yes/no answer. Take the question and choices with a grain of salt. Yeah, me too.. the wording sucked. But this thread has been excellent reading in spite of me creating a loaded poll. It was in fun.... Not to be taken seriously. But the choice of Fall/Spring... and the points made here by the in touch MLW crowd always makes up for my indescretions.... Next poll will be more direct and less of this.. Seriously, there is a combination of factors/variables in this thread that could tip the balance. I do think the economy is going to be important in the decision making. Ignatieff is unpredictable. Harper is always going to go for it if he smells a majority. Layton And Duceppe I am not sure of their reactions. Layton is scoring high. Duceppe has proven that the BQ can rally when down in the polls. Polls/Economy/Leadership I am going with Fall Election, even though the CPC didn't get the G20 bump they were looking for. Now, if they had made a campaign around the Queen in English Canada..... The might have gotten rid of some of the G20 STink.
  6. I used to think the cost of an election campaign was high at $300 million for the 6 or 7 weeks it runs. In comparison to blowing a Billion on security alone for the G20 and more for the fake lake, It becomes clear why governments do not worry about the cost. And its not about when elections are required. If you think about it, the moment the economic report shows growth and jobs, expect the hammer to fall.
  7. I agree with FellowTraveller. Never thought to work that into the poll but it makes sense.
  8. Shady.. the best way to get out of hole is to stop digging. Since you wish to compare violence in a futile attempt to defend.... not certain anyone knows what you are defending... but its not the smartest tactic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-abortion_violence I do support those with passionate convictions to their cause, although its one I do not share. But you know so little about which groups I help and support you failed to miss the point of what good people would like to see and mean no harm. Those persons are my friends and we have discussions all the time on what many call a third rail. It is no different with the regular protesters who went to Toronto. That is correct, I posted in a non hypocritical manner. There is nothing wrong with that! We have alot of people on MLW that are good at stating their positions and not be hypocritical. Other posters.. it would appear... I have given far more time and consideration then they may deserve.
  9. Like when Anti Abortion protestors cross the line and murder doctors.
  10. I think alot of people are following this story. It reminds me of a trucker from Air Liquide travelling in the Southern US about 15 years ago. Also found himself an accident and was not allowed to leave the country. Two weeks later, the Lawyers for Air Liquide and his own lawyer and the USW lawyers managed to get him out of the country and return when the trial was to happen. He was found not guilty. I doubt without these pressures he would have spent the whole time in the US.
  11. That is also not the only country in the Gulf that poor people attempt to leave and risk their lives doing so. And its not like any other country is waiting with open arms to aid the people trying to leave the country. Infact Canada and the United States sends them back or turns them away while drifting in the Ocean. Now, If you want to see how two different governments operate. Try setting up a small business in Cuba vs one in Canada as a citizen living in their respective countries. The number of small business operations in Cuba surprised the heck out of me. The only reason this thread has turned to Cuba is because one of the posters arguments lost traction and a diversion was required. And once again, its stereotype nonsense.
  12. Guess you have never been there, which once again makes you an expert. Yes they do speak out about Castro and their government lead by Raul. Infact they have been the most engaged in how they want their country to move forward. The level of Apathy here is an engagement there is something to admire. Cuba is a poor Country. However when you compare it to Haiti and the Dominican and many other 3rd world and 4th world countries, they have done well. Cuba could be wealthy, and it will become a very wealthy country when the embargo is lifted. Compare that to countries of wealth like Haiti and the Dominican with similar histories and their ability to have been part of Free Market Capitalism during the same 40 year embargo and you have to wonder.... why is Cuba able to provided services their neighbours, with the support of the entire western world, can't. You would probably have more luck moving this discussion to the Foreign section, rather then shifting the discussion every time you box yourself into a corner. Who knows, maybe this thread can get back to its roots on Protesting. You know, the right to speak out and challenge the government (our government) and to have Freedom of assembly. Pretty good thing.
  13. Nice... LOL. Didn't realize people were still reading these comments... thx.
  14. We live in a society based on Capitalism. It CANNOT fix societies problems. You made a case for Welfare. You have not offered any sort of Reform, although you have complained about abuse and women having babies. One would be foolish to believe that there is no Abuse in Capitalism. Conrad Black got away with 40 years + of abuse and is now a Convicted Fellon. But not in Canada, only in the United States. Canada needs tougher laws to go after these abusers of Capital.
  15. Yeah, but are you going to vote? Haven't seen you in awhile..
  16. Hold that thought Argus..... Argus detained for four hours in the rain... Ok carry on......
  17. There is no one who favours of abuse of any government program or handout or scheme. Not solely those who bottom feed. Why have you taken the time only to finger point at a certain target group? Then you support the Socialist value of welfare, as does every Province in the country. Maybe if top feeders weren't scamming the system, and conning the government of Billions, good people wouldn't have to take a long hard slide to Welfare. It is not an easy place to get to. Particularly if you have been a person of means. Thus it is not an easy thing to get back out of as the the trip to get there might take a few years and the trip out a similar length. It is a government program with specific rules and services. And yes people who are on Welfare do believe they are entitled to the medical care that working poor cannot receive without it. Thus people are on welfare and working and paying back into the system because the medical benefits are a necessity to their quality of life.I have no problem with this and wish medical/drug benefits could be extended to more people, especially those caught in the middle with too little work and too much for welfare, to qualify in order to receive drug coverage. You have a solution to prevent women from having babies? Nope but you made a case for welfare.
  18. Funny, alot of the monies went to security firms with ties to the Conservative Party.
  19. This post is so good, it has to be repeated...
  20. Nice find. Seems the Mayor was wrong. TO was turned into a fortress and people stayed away in droves and left for green pastures before the circus came to town. And the Exhibition Place never happened, which defeats the whole rational behind having it in Toronto. The Mayor drew the short end of the stick and TO and the people of TO got the shaft. The Mayor is leaving.... Harper could return the favour.
  21. Regardless of the Damage, the choice to have it in Downtown Toronto was Harpers. He over rode the Mayor of Torontos choice of venue to have it in the Exhibition. This whole thing has been a disaster from start to finish. So little accomplished. SO much money wasted. You try and Get $1Billion for the military and see how long it takes and over what timeline it is to be dispersed. Then compare $1 Billion and counting..... for 3days of snafu and fubar. This has been a dogs breakfast and its would be great it this circus act never came back in the form we just witnessed. A joke and a complete waste of money and resources.
