Well, these cartoons are funny. Unfortuneately a picture is worth a thousand words and a cartoon, 10,000.

But foreigners posting here are well received LOL MLW does have a huge diversity of opinion. And lots of crossover in ideas that come from people supporting different parties. Also there is alot of fun partisanship. Follow some of the threads and you will see the directions the discussions go.

The CPC offered Cadman Financial incentives to vote down the government. You may not like the Liberal Slant. I don't like the actions of Finley on behalf of Harper and the CPC. The CPC lawsuit is sucky.

Change the word "Canadians" to "Liberal strategists". "Canadians" (Liberal Strategists) weren't hungry for an election just a month ago, when Dion could actually have challenged the government. Times have changed

You have proof of this? Are you a wholesaler for the distribution of fuels. How many wholesalers are in Ontario setting up indepentdent fuel outlets?

This is probably a more accurate vision along with Wild Bills Assessment of Ontario.

Bollocks.

There are laws that are cracked and this is one of them. It's not usual for someone from the Northern States to be unable to understand a verbal sentence from someone from the southern states. The same is true in reverse. I can just see it. Southern Trucker: "Speeeeeddddddddddddinnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggg TTTTiiiiiiiiccccccccckkkkkkkkket, oooffffffffffffiiiiiccccceeeeeeeeeerrrrrrr?" Traffic Enforcer: you speak to slow to understand english boy. $500.

No competitive is...... lowering the prices and driving out the independents has been the choice weapon of the oligopolies in order to defend their turfs, then raise those prices up after achieving control of the market. Maybe this isn't working ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- History of Anti-Combines Law After 1867, local markets extended nationwide Improved transportation Increased mechanization More sophisticated corporate structures Cartels emerged 1880s – 1890s Cotton textiles, salt, twine, flour, tobacco Widespread opposition Farmers, small business, consumers, labour unions Anti-Combines Act of 1889 Illegal to conspire to restrict trade, output, or competition Became a criminal offence in 1892 CHAPTER 9: GOVERNMENT POLICY History of Anti-Combines Law Combines Investigation Act (1910) Application by six people Judge could order an investigation People unwilling to bear publicity & expense No continuous administration of Act Competition Act (1986) Focuses on activities that “lessen competition substantially” Allows mergers that increase efficiency and international competitiveness Offences are civil rather than criminal, easier to prosecute Enforced by a competition tribunal made up of judges, lawyers, and business, economic, and consumer experts

The market is there. Companies can invest and will invest without corporate welfare. The Conservative Government should not subsidize the oil companies or the United States need for oil. If we cannot subsidize our own nation, it makes no sense to subsidize yours with our money.
-
Nor any good reason to give subsidies to the oil companies to export to the US first. BTW... Is your car forsale?

Are the Liberals damaging Green party chances...?
madmax replied to Savant's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If you are saying Ontario and the Maritimes, then you have to include all Provinces and Territories. I understand why you pointed out these Provinces since yours was targeted. But this isn't set up like the Transfers of which 70% go towards Quebec. Also, those in the Martimes use a significant amount of fossil fuels/ per capita because of climate and the sources of fuel available. Same goes for the Territories which use a disproportionate amount of fossil fuels and this is a requirement for survival. Ontario has Coal, Nuclear (it ain't green so we will pay Carbon Tax on its supply to us) and industry as well as the largest population in Canada. Much like the Transfers, Ontario will pay out far more then it gets back under this scheme. Ontario still is the highest source of wealth, and will have, even under have not status, it will still pay a higher portion of the transfers, as well Ontario will pay a higher portion of the Carbon tax compared to what it would receive "social services". Seeing New Brunswick play the same card as BC, this appears to be a tactic for greedy governments to take more away form the lower and middle class incomes by finding another reason why we should get taxed more. Riverwind isn't a climate change doubter, if you read enough of what is posted. He is more of a skeptic that doesn't believe anything he is force fed as fact. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone is aware that the climate on earth has changed, and will always be changing. Everyone knows humans have an impact on the environment. After that people split hairs on what effects we can influence the best. And the Green SHift doesn't provide any proof of GHG reductions, regardless of whether the LPC implement it or not. It will provide tax revenues for the government like the GST did. -
And internet downloads. Which they have been studying.

And some who think food for fuel is a great policy.... ......egg on the face for a couple of the boys here. -
The Big Dippers, or the Little Dippers, but I don't know about the "New" Dippers. A former Leader of the Ontario NDP. His father was leader of the Federal NDP. He was known for his social justice stance, leadership in African issues, and general dislike of the United Nations, while serving for them.http://www.stephenlewisfoundation.org/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Lewis Now, if these don't interest you, you can note that he is Jewish and would likely not support the clause to pay fines for killing union leaders. Regardless, I don't think you would feel at home with the dippers, but I could be wrong. That doesn't mean you wouldn't have a tendency to respect Social Justice issues, you just might feel more comfortable in a non socialist environment. Even though many would argue that the dippers are to the right of the LPC platform, the LPC, govern fiscally to the right of the CPC. (Short of smaller government) LOL

I can use Welders. Lots of Welders. I have commercial pilots looking for work, btw, if anyone has a job lead.

Seriously, I would get out of Niagara falls and go to Sask or ALberta and get a General Labour job that pays good money. Industries/Services pay alot more there and I have some guys telling me the work is easy, and people quit regularly, to go to even easier jobs with more pay. Or I would look for what is in demand in the business sector in the West. I receive calls regularly for accountants and book keepers. Contact a firm, find out what they want and get training for that ASAP. Meanwhile here... The MW & Temp thing has become a cancer in Ontario, and it will take a paradigm shift to change it. People settling for the 60 hour work work is becoming the standard, so you may as well go out west where there is Overtime pay and better labour standards. More and more I am seeing people put in 80 hrs followed by 40 hours the next week and get the 60 hour regular pay from averaging. It still is barely above minimum wage at the end of the day for alot of these jobs. Luckily... Not all places use the 60 hour work week, many stay to the 44hours, but they are the smaller operations. Either way, get your skills or your butt out west. You be able to put either to work if you can hustle, and the pay rewards are there. No excuses, just results.

Are the Liberals damaging Green party chances...?
madmax replied to Savant's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
When a party comes out and supports the leader of another political party for Prime Minister before an election, fully endorses the LPC environmental plan without criticism, then it would be expected that people who are turned off of the Liberal Plan will do the same for the GP. The same is true for those who support the LPC plan. If the Leader is endorsed, and the plan is endorsed, then you vote for the LPC. It's a double turnoff of the party and clever move on the LPC part. If the GPs are "collateral" damage, it is deserved. But I think your friend is rushing to judgement. Barely 3% of those polled know or care about the Green Shift. Of those 3% a Majority like it. But in the General Public, this is going to be a losing issue. This will go over as well as the Religious School funding proposal by John Tory in the Ontario Election. Something for Dion to get hit on the head with. Obviously, hitching your wagon to another political party in hopes of a free tow, is going to come back on you. It is the largest tax grab since the GST, and it looks like it will take two parties to sell it. Clearly if the program was selling well, your friend would be estatic that the tax is coming through. But since it is not, she appears more worried about her parties stance in the polls. She can't have it both ways. The Liberals have chosen a wedge issue. You friend is feeling "the squeeze". -
Dion's "Liberal Green Shift" carbon tax Plan
madmax replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It does neither. This is a great way to market the failure of the policy to the CPC type of voter. It is wealth redistribution, and those higher up the food chain are getting a break, and the burden is falling on the middle class and below. The tax will be used to lower the burden of the well off. That said, they LPC claim that this revenue neutral program will be used to fund all sorts of programs that they failed to implement with the revenues generated from the GST. This is because of the tax cuts of the 90s. It is a shaft, and there is good reason to doubt everything put forth. But just as easily as this could be the cureall to end all poverty, it could well be the miracle of tax reduction for the wealthy. But anyone can realize the math doesn't work. Nor does the plan. And the fact that it does nothing for the environment, as demonstrated earlier in this thread, means that this Green Shift has nothing "Green" about it. I find it interesting to see the debate strictly about the tax, and who benefits and who loses. It is a perfect LPC policy as it sounds nice and does nothing. Perhaps there are many well off segments who will benefit greatly from the income tax cut, and perhaps there will be more hospitals built, nurseries and world peace. All from the miracle of a tax shift. And pigs can fly. -
We definitely require refining capacity in Canada. Just like military equipment. Sell it in the US for $10/gallon first... Bush Cheney is a fitting handle indeed.
-
I think that a bureaucrat put this together and botched it up. I would expect CPC minister was unaware of the implication of the clause if not brought to his attention. Someone probably thought this was a "good deed" on our part. On a side note you would probably feel more comfortable in the CPC/LPC. Unless you are really close with Stephen Lewis. You would still have to learn to spell "COLOUR" properly
