  1. The injunction was successful. But GM has some splainning to do.... (I picked this up off another site, but thought some of the posters here might not be aware of this ruling.) Ouch.
  2. I guess Mike Duffy isn't the press? 1) He is talking about it. 2) He needs to use Google just to make certain he fellow journalists are no longer following the story. 3) HOT OFF THE PRESS, THE STORY THAT KEEPS ON GIVING!!! Choose your favourite pub. 54 articles this morning. A most interesting statement Followed by comments from the "government" New slogan. "OUT TO LUNCH" I wonder where Cote is today? Who has hired him, is he still with the government? I think Mr. Duffy will be talking more about Couillard in the upcoming weeks.
  3. McGuinty has stated he is staying on as Leader of the Liberals. No surprise having won back to back majorities, although one might take issue with his rosey perspective of the economy and the role of the Liberals. They are the photo op and image party, and McGuinty has managed to overcome the image that was formed of him by the previous PC campaigns. It is not that people don't view him as "not up to the job" it is that they don't see anyone else or party equipped to take over. Tory has wandered around the wilderness. No one wants to offer him a seat, and they tell him to be a good lil red Tory and campaign outside the Legislature. Show up in ridings to help the Feds win, but more importantly, just lay low and keep quiet. Not that anyone is listening. He dropped the ball on Religious school funding, and is not well respected in his own ranks. People question whether he could even win in a Bi Election. And not to miss a beat, while McGuinty is saying he is leaving, Hampton has made the decision to step aside. Like everything Hampton did, this was telegraphed like all his policy announcements. You always knew what he was going to say in advance. Hampton was a grinder, and the NDP stayed alive because of his workman like performance. Nothing flashy, just a steady as she goes approach. Of the 3 leaders I liked Hampton the best, only because I believe he was sincere when he spoke. Oh, that in itself is hard to stomach at a time when no one trusts a politician of any stripe. John Tory is going to have the roughest ride in the next election. It is going to be difficult campaigning, as an Alternative to McGuinty. And Mr. Tory has fallen short, in all of his campaigns, and not made it onto the playing field Provincially.. McGuinty is going to be wondering of the piles of cash he is handing out is going to pay off or if the economy will be in rebound by the next election. Regardless, it looks like the Majority Liberal Government gets a free ride from the opposition for the next 3.5 years.
  4. Bush Cheney is 100% correct when he speaks of the process and requirements of Tier one suppliers and the timelines for PPAP and implementation. The time frame you suggest can only be achieved when moving from one location to another (IE changing suppliers) but the product remains the same. And even then their can be difficulties. And yes, you would have to "NOT" take down the entire platform as you mention. WHoa there little doggie. IF this were so true, the extended warranty packages would not be so popular or expensive. All dealerships operate on the same principle. And quite frankly many dealership owners have interests in at least 2 of the manufacturers listed above. Having supplied parts to all the above, and knowing the processes involved, I think that there has been an well established marketing plan that has been very effective for the manufacturers you list above. Clearly you miss the irony of the GM truck plant being "Best in its class". That would suggest that the Products of the other manufacturers were inferior. However, for myself I find much of this splitting hairs.
  5. Bernier is a dupe and incompetent who is being treated with kid gloves by his party. He has learned the Liberal, sargent Shultz impersonation. One also used by corporate heads being investigated for fraud in the US. (I am the CEO/CFO I know nothing of finance or how the company was directed) However, Berniers biggest contribution, just might be to the issue that caught my attention earlier. Someone here pointed out about Couilard being the "Travelling" Companion on the taxpayers dime. Free trips around the globe paid by us suckers. It looks like this has caught the attention of the media and the public at the same time and the governments dirty little secret is out there. One that the CPC want to keep. http://canadianpress.google.com/article/AL...tL8KpuFrWTnwFrA On top of that the CPC was getting such bad press they rushed out their attact adds, to cover Berniers incompetence. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/sto...PStory/National
  6. Well, I have been hearing some feedback on those adds. And I haven't seen one of these adds myself. Guess I tune in at the wrong time. Regardless, these adds are not being warmly received, nor having much of an impact. Perhaps these require a slow burn.
  7. Take another look at RUEs post. And your point is not there. Not that it is an inaccurate statement, just that the previous post does not allude (At least what I have reread) doesn't apper to allude to your position at all. You only have to drive to a japanese/korean dealership and see the number of lighttruck/SUVs on the lot. The rant was setting blame on one manufacturer and its workforce while ignoring the same practice of the Asian Manufacturers. But as to your statement above, don't forget the last line of Bush-Cheneys post. Which you know is happening
  8. Send your comments to the BQ or the Edmonton Sun.
  9. Are the Majority of AGW climate scientists? How many "scientists" on either side believe a gas tax on Canadians is going to cool the planet? Or is this just a Dion thing?
  10. The Edmonton Sun has provided a timeline. Also in the article is a problem of accountability. Fortier, declining to testify. Here is the timeline. There is a sucker born every minute.
  11. The optics are great for media, and according to the polls the scandal is not affecting the government. So we still have a good story with great legs and a body of evidence, and a chestful of questions. I am curious about this aspect of the scandal, just as much as its physical presentation. No doubt, Bernier has seen the early polls like the CPC and now come out to state he is going to run again. I received one of those polling firm calls. I think Bernier can provide the country more entertainment by running again. Perhaps Coulliard could challenge the nomination, and run against him as the CPC candidate Besides she has met with BUSH and is more articulate and competent then Bernier, and the CPC isn't concerned about her private life
  12. I do not trust anyone. I sign contracts and have lawyers. Regardless, I recall personally one of GM suppliers who turned their backs on all their contracts and skipped town with a pile of cash, and GM reps from the US came up here and made things happen. Many of these difficult proceedings were done on a handshake and clear understanding before put to the bean counters and lawyers. GM understands the need for a proper closure agreement. Particularly with the state of affairs with many of their suppliers who are "contractually" obligated not to let their production lines go down. They have seen plant meltdowns with announced closures and no agreements, and they have seen meltdowns with industry folding up as little as 2 weeks in many cases to 48 hours in extreme cases. If you trust signed contracts, I can provide lists upon lists of Salaried Staff still seeking their wages, vacation pay, severance pay, reimbursements for benefits. I can show you many many many many many many suppliers, big and small shafted as large profitable/unprofitable companies relocate and don't give a rats ass about who they stuck it to. If you have a magic wand, that knows how to collect these monies owed, I know a government that could use your help as well. Nothing like a company buggering off and owing the city too. The law and lawyers only go so far. Even a closure agreement can be ignored, and their is little that can be done about it. But those companies that are sincere about there closure and want a harmonious closure are wise to do so. This is not a new practice for GM or some unheard of endeavour.
  13. I understand . I have done the same. Sorry about the rush to judgement. There is an Quebec MP who probably could use some of those Pain Meds about now. Yes, I have seen heavier screening for a minimum wage job. That would be true if she were running as a CPC candidate. But as a person flying around on taxpayers tab and moving within circles to meet with the President of the United States, it is clear that she was "Known to Police" and should have been vetted prior to any of these free trips. A "feminist" on this board? Sorry, I like a good story, and so does the media. Its a fact of life. I buy into that.
  14. No kidding. Who was the last nutbar to try to impeach the previous President.
  15. And if you lived there, one of the cheekiest people in Canada, and on this forum.
  16. why should they fight for their jobs or why won't Oshawa look like Flint.
  17. You are correct in your assessment of how a large corp such as GM behaves. So you trust GM to give back the money And they will. A closure agreement is there to ensure that the people of necessity remain with the operations until the lights go out. It is smart business. Even under the most extreme circumstances I have seen court appointed monitors create adhoc closure agreements for both union and non union facilities that do not have one in place, and it is critical to retain key employees and have a timely, orderly, winddown that meets the needs of the customers. I do see many companies that do not retain employees for the lack of a closure agreement causing a run on labour and a panic from customers. Regardless, I have seen the ugliest side of some corporate decisions, that deserve a different thread, when it comes to plant closures. The Oshawa announcement is standard fare on the whole.
  18. I think this is going to build over time as people realize that the "spirit of the law" is not being followed. I believe there were 300 convicted and 800 not convicted of the charge. I can't imagine a situation when a judge would say. "You have been found not guilty of stunting, your car will be impounded, your licence suspended and the information forwarded to your insurance company. You will pay dearly for the retrieval of your vehicle. Which is exactly what is happening because you are penalized first. There are speeding laws. Careless Driving Laws. Dangerous Driving Laws. Racing Laws. and now the stunting and street racing law. I doubt that the previous four laws had the same rate of failure to successfully prosecute as the current law. We know that this law was to combat the rise of street racing within the GTA. The people being brought before the courts, the vast majority it would seem have been charged with the wrong offence. How so? I was very troubled by the law, but we know it was good PR and people wanted something done about the increase in street racing by urban youth. There are problems that need to be addressed. But the jury is still out.
  19. What we do know is that their record of productivity and quality has put the GM Oshawa facilities as the BEST in North America, against all Manufacturers, right up until the day of the announced Closure. and in the top 10 among 2 continents. Not to be lost in this is the fact that.
  20. I am surprised how long it has taken them to wake up, after ignoring the 200,000 people they are about to join. Regardless, GM has mislead the employees, the government, taken taxpayers monies, bargained in bad faith just week ago. They should have been negotiating the closure agreement, not an agreement for concessions based upon the intent to continue production. GM didn't make this decision in a vacuum. IF GM does make an about face in production in Oshawa, it will be because of the efforts of the employees and nothing less. The same efforts that made it the award winning facility that it is. GM also made this announcement after the comments made by Flaherty. I wouldn't be surprised to speculate they are sticking it to him. Regardless, there is something about Auto/Truck production in Oshawa.
  21. I am surprised. This story continues to have strong legs I am not surprised that.... Would you want to associate your "accountable" government with this.... I have never been comfortable with the appointment of CPC "Bagman" Fortier to the Senate and to put him in charge of "PUBLIC WORKS". We were worked over by the Libs in Quebec. Why would the CPC follow in the same footsteps? I am curious to know how the French Press is covering the story.
  22. That is correct. That goes across the board of all makes at a time when the Big Three were the Big Three and the Japanese Cars were.. problematic in a different way. My roots are in Autosales during this period. But my heart beats with Mopar, even though I have none in my driveway. GM is still GM and it is going to take alot more time before they come around. Yes, any Ideas what GM has been doing...... ? And yes, tooling changes are not trivial, nor insurmountable when there is a plan enacted. It is not like the money isn't there. The quality, the production, and the profit can all be achieved in the same fashion as Honda and Toyota retool and offer newer/different model lines. That is why we have a ballot box. I didn't vote for the Liberals last time over this very issue of corporate handouts under the guise of technological grants.
