  1. I give BC credit for being PO'd. In Ontario, its a slow bleed.....thats the intent of the tax. It takes time for its effects to accumulate. I recall a few businesses saying its had little to no effect... after a year and a bit, their tune was changing. People don't realize they have less money as quickly when they are being nickled and dimed. Meanwhile Ontario re elected McGuinty and gave the Conservatives more seats in Ontario despite their $4.6billion dollar role in the HST, but I would call it voters remorse today.
  2. As Macleans has pointed out. The farce lies with the Conservatives, not with what you are saying.
  3. ERm.. NO!
  4. Considering the NDP rejects Regressive taxes , that Conservatives normally prefer to put onto the middleclass, it is with open arms that the NDP and Conservatives campaigned against the Carbon Tax. That said, Its been the right leading government in BC that implemented it$, while the NDP campaigned against it. And I don't believe that the BC environment has improved since implementing the tax. That said, the carbon tax is a regressive tax much like the HST. Something the Conservatives are paternal fathers of in BC and Ontario. The biggest thing here is the Conservatives are engaged in a smear campaign.
  5. I prefer facts over farce.
  6. Cap and Trade was part of the Conservative 2008 Throne Speech....
  7. Only the desperate smear is misleading.
  8. It sure was. And thus why do the Conservatives want to implement a Carbon Tax.
  9. JBG this ones for you. http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/dailybrew/canada-party-offers-viable-candidate-u-presidential-race-204828868.html Enjoy
  10. It appears that while Stockwell Day preaches to save Carbon Tax Christie in BC, the rest of the Federal Conservatives are busy sending memos fabricating a Carbon Tax boogeyman. And why not it worked well the first time with Dion. Only thing is, Dion, much like the LibraCons in BC would have implemented such a tax. Considering the Federal NDP campaigned against the regressive tax, its ironic that the Conservatives have chosen this field in which to drop there first allotments of horse manure to kick off the fall session. http://www2.macleans.ca/2012/09/04/the-carbon-tax-farce/ So, will Conservative Orwellian tactics prevail or common sense.
  11. Yes you were at a rally in August when teachers weren't working. Participation =5000 Number of Teachers affected= 114,000 That is a low participation rate, less then 5% for a rally, when everyone affected could attend if htey so choose However, Of those 5,000, not all were teachers. Many were from various public and private sector unions, supporting the right to collective bargaining. That is a staple product of any Union. On any given day all the Union activists could pull 2,000 to 5,000. So, that leaves very little rooom for people outside of the choir that WB has described. Regardless, if you have people onside, I don't believe it will take much listening on their part to be turned off by your opinion. You have developed a tin ear for a teacher or upcoming teacher. I hope you realize a discussion is a two way street. And if you held a rally and the majority of those in attendance were not teachers..... That is a bad omen.....considering the size of the rally and the timing. Now, part II If you want to turn off those onside, Work To Rule is just the tool. no one is going to accept voluntary removal of participation of student activities as a smart negotiating tool against the government. The Teachers need only target the government that overrode the bargaining process. Targeting the classroom is a flawed strategy as this battle is not withing the classroom or even schoolboard. It will require more smarts then the current tactics on display.
  12. No deal... Canadian Icons.... Besides... Leonard Skinnard rollin in the grave.. wouldn't want to start a civil war...
  13. Nah, you've been around here a long time. I am sure you have been right before. That said, I rolled my eyes when Obama won the Noble Peace Prize. Still can't figure out what he did to receive that.
  14. crap, I should have seen this post first...
  15. That is a benefit of a high dollar. You can purchase the equipment with Canadian dollars and ship it to Mexico, China, Or Central America etc. However even if the equipment is solid, more productive and remains in Canada, it productivity has to offset the decline in demand of a good caused by the high the dollar. It makes sense if a company plans long term, however, many companies plan for the short term. Just an observation. There are exceptions. Before I comment, exactly what are you talking about? could you clarify. He could have..... It doesn't mean he is correct. I don't believe he debunked anything, but if he did, its would go against the governments own reports on the effects of the dollar on manufacturing and the % of effect attributed to the dollars rise and Dutch Disease.
  16. Don't worry, Mcguinty will be toast. that however...is No reason to ignore the recent Conservative Denial of basic trade economics.
  17. Sometimes when an argument is going so bad for one side, I stop, toss in a couple facts to help support their positions, especially if I think the debate has merit or integrity. The problem with this thread, and we have had threads before on the transfer payments and such that have been very detailed, factual and heated, but the ones jumping on the anti Quebec Bandwagon (An ez scapegoat cause of many of the positions that the Separatists present) Are attacking the very thing they want their Province to do, and their Province can provide these very things if they had the political will to do so. Blaming Quebec For Affordable Child Care Lower Tuitions Is a fools endeavour. However, if one lived in Quebec and stated, hey, we are running a deficit and can't afford $7 childcare...... That is a different argument altogether. I also found it absurd that the CAQ was presented as a separatist party. the PQ was more concerned with the Fringe QS splitting the Separatist vote. I can see that CanadaJames wants to fan the flames. But to do so, you need to have a few facts to start with beyond "I hate Quebec"
  18. Warren Kinsella Maker of Whine. Eater of Sour Grapes. Tuned out the crybaby some time back.
  19. Leaders often receive awards from organizations. This seems like a nice award. Gordon Brown received it. I am not sure why. Obviously one would think that Rabbi Schneier received a private audience with the Prime Minister.
  20. People in Quebec pay higher taxes to support day care. If you want, move to Quebec, pay higher taxes and access the day care. Otherwise it will be a very long walk for the 3 and 4 year olds. Could you explain this quote above?
  21. Good to see you still around Mr. Canada Would the NDP put a Torie in the Senate? A: No, I doubt the NDP would appoint anyone during their term in office. You suggest the NDP would never form a government. Well, it will be interesting when they do.
  22. Ideals sound like A fair days work for a fair days pay from what I have read.
  23. Its unfortuneate that you live in Quebec and have no idea of the political parties, their platforms and the difference between a sovereignist party and one that isn't. You need to educate yourself Your ignorance of the Province you live in needs to be improved. Your understanding of transfer payments is incorrect. But you do have an opinion like everyone else. You might be successful in fooling someone else with your knowledge of Quebec. But many people here are well informed and others are crazy constitutional policy wonks. There are a number of Quebec oriented policies you could speak to. They should go into the Provincial Section of the forum. But your federal argument is sadly flawed. Some of us have been around since the before the inception of the PQ , the growth of the political separatist movement of the PQ. And todays Quebec doesn't compare to the past. This is the first time in 20 years that a Federal Party controls the most seats in Quebec. This is the first time a PQ government has taken power with a lowly 32% That means 68% don't support the PQ at the ballot box. And that is after facing a tired worn, and corrupted Liberal Government.
  24. I really don't know what you are trying to say. 1) The People of Quebec made a major shift and dropped the BQ federally. The Separatist party is at 4 seats I think? 2) You expect the People of Quebec to stick with a corrupted Liberal Government? 3) If I recall correctly the PQ got is in the 30% range, a weak minority government, and many people who voted PQ aren;t voting for Separation, they are VOTING OUT the Liberals. Your rants are radical and full of puffery. Oh and I hate it when people bash Canada. That includes bashing BC, Alberta, Sask, Man, Ont, Que, NS, NFLD, NB, PEI, and the territories.
