I believe the CPC has the best GOTV in the country, period. More interesting is how these Conservative Lists end up in the hands of Christian Conservative.

Fired Teacher Hired - Unbelievable
madmax replied to socialist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Valid Question. Previously we have seen teachers fired over conflict with human rights, promoting anti semitism or challenging/denying the holocaust. Therefore, it is obviously taken on a issue by issue basis. The Schoolboard had the right to fire. I am certain it is within the collective agreement they signed onto and the teacher must follow what has been agreed to when hired. Thus he was fired. It doesn't mean they are right, it doesn't mean the schoolboard couldn't have used a different disciplinary action and its also not the first time a teacher has stood up for what they believe. Not that this teacher is likely to return to work at the previous school board, however, I am curious if he grieved the firing and what the outcome of that grievance will be. Also, I often hear, that it is IMPOSSIBLE to FIRE a teacher especially a LONG TERM Teacher. To those critics I say... TAKE NOTE A 35 Year teacher was fired. -
I have no problem with teachers, and Socialist isn't a teacher. I don't even think Socialist is a "Socialist" based on the posts I have read. So far the positions taken by Socialist have been both provocative and naive let alone successfully promoting the values of teaching or even the value of collective bargaining. If I had a "What NOT to do" to win the hearts and minds or make a valued argument as to the role of teachers within society, I would point towards the posts of "socialist". The Ignorant comment is again offensive and naive. Especially on a forum such as MLW were I have seen very valid positions and arguments put forth. I would suggest that what M. Hardener has put forward throughout these threads is closer to the norm and accurate as to the nature of collective bargaining. From there, I might suggest that people could make arguments pro and con for such actions. Such as.... Smaller class sizes are a win for both the students and the teachers. I would also suggest that Mr. Hardener clearly identified a marketing feel good piece at which is the heart of this post. These kinds of marketing tools are used on facebook and emails and their purpose is to be used a chain letter of sorts to sway opinion or simply make people feel good or motivated about a particular issue , group, or idea.

Fired Teacher Hired - Unbelievable

Why would you disparage a teacher with 35 years of experience...... I value a teacher with that much experience and I am NO FAN OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS!!! When Peter Mitchell, the headmaster of a small academic private school in Edmonton, scouted for a new physics teacher, he found the perfect candidate in the newspaper. Lynden Dorval made headlines when he was fired for refusing to comply with his public school’s “no-zero” policy. Mr. Mitchell saw a teacher with passion, standards, and 35 years experience. -

It takes courage to do something you believe is the right thing to do and risk your job in doing so. I'd say the school board that fired him overreacted if this is the reason for being fired. -
Actually, the Tories are awaiting the results of the "Independant review". We watched how uncomfortable our Conservative MP was with the subject last spring. None of the current MPs will be affected and their gold plated pensions will remain intact. $55,000 for 5 years starting at age 55 is very nice. Pensions will be reformed. Its coming whether MPs want it or not. What the MPs won't be doing is setting the bar, or lowering it themselves, which is what they should do. And its not like they are going to set the age to 67. They will change, but at the end of the day they will still be lucrative.

Would national daycare equal more Canadian babies?

Luckily Mr. Canada can no longer procreate. The mold is broken -
PIK concerns and observations are valid points. Some polls are more formal then others, asking people first if they are a Canadian Citizen over 18. The polster can only continue based on the answer and assume the person on the other end is truthful. And then there are other polls that don't even ask this basic requirement. I have never checked to see if an online poll asks these questions. Always TRUST a MLW poll, we get them right 21 times out of 20

Interesting as I believe you are in a highly educated region of Ontario. Also a region with a strong history support for teachers and the education system. I do believe a teacher wears many hats. I find the upcoming substitute teacher preaching to a forum and not doing much listening problematic. The arguments supporting teachers , teachers pay , what they do are valid. Its open to debate, and it should be done through collective bargaining. The highlighting of the whinge bucket is also valid. Perhaps, one needs to open the eyes of what many people are doing is in order. From what I have seen is that Wages have dropped dramatically while hours of work has increased. Its been difficult, very difficult for many, and yes while many are still doing ok, we all know good people with good work ethics struggling. Stoically

If you heard teachers saying general workers/labourers/ were overpaid and under educated..... How would you respond?
-
OK, if you are right, and that's a big ifffffff IF IFIF well, then we'd have to find something else to talk about lol.... But other then that.... pretty straightforwardanalysis quoted above

NDP 36% and the PCs 35%. Liberals are in third place at 22%. Thats a statistical tie with the PCs even though its a one point lead. http://www.torontosun.com/2012/09/17/ndp-support-soars-while-liberals-plummets-poll#disqus_thread Ironically the NDP in first in voter % would receive a 3rd place in terms of seats according to forum research, being pipped by the Liberals. IT would result in a PC minority government. Interesting to say the least.

Digging a deep , deep, deep, hole.

I don't blame the Electorate one bit. That same Electorate Elected Rob Ford, and Elected Federal Conservative MPs. The also Elected a number of NDP MPPs and MPs. THerefore.... I think Hudaks done a great job of keeping Dalton in office. Congrats Tim.... and blew 2 by elections too.... Whats that 0 for 5? And while you got your Hudak blame game fingers pointed at 416 Might I ask how Popular Donna Scully , TV persona , seen daily on CHCH lost in a Very Rural, and Conservative Urban riding outside of 416? Oh wait, that was the Unions.... or something...

I think it would be foolish to write off that effect. Prior to this turn of events , Layton would outshine Harper in leadership. But that didn't happen overnight and Layton did lead his party with strong leadership skills. I believe Mulcairs numbers will increase as more see him and at this time the Liberal Leaders numbers are not a sign of future leadership numbers as they Liberals will go up or down with the new one. I think anyone who dismisses a 98% index is making a mistake.

LMAO Makes you wonder how Ford could run an office year after year after year and yet claim no expenses. Yet as Mayor he's got the Football Train knee deep in gravy. I thought this was what he was going to weed out, not weed in.
-
So you hire football pals to teach football on the public dime.... Nice gig.
-
23 or 24% isn't all that great. What is encouraging is the Ontario Numbers. But the Conservatives maintain a lock on Ontario.
-
Generally news tends to be current. And the answer to your query above would be yes. And I would also agree with your previous post about this being about nothing, thus the subtitle in header. I think its going to be a failed tactic and the Conservatives will move on to something else, looking for a smear that will stick.
-
I don't think its the right move, I don't think it wins hearts and minds. I have heard the reason for this action and I just think its an unwise and poor choice and makes the teachers look bad. If my job was crap and it got crappier, I doubt I would stop volunteering just because I am getting dumped on or scape goated.

You might wish to read the blog in context and quote within context. As you're are highlighting the FARCE and presenting it as fact. meanwhle it appears more Conservatives are getting caught on their misleading talking points. http://www2.macleans.ca/2012/09/13/the-farce-is-strong-in-these-ones/ ----------------------------------------------------------------- With Thomas Mulcair visiting Brantford, Conservative MP Phil McColeman uses the phrase “carbon tax” three times in the space of a five-sentence quote (and his remarks are reported without being challenged). And with Mr. Mulcair visiting London, Conservative MPs Susan Truppe, Joe Preston and Ed Holder send a letter to the Free Press to complain that, while in the city, the NDP leader didn’t mention a policy he hasn’t proposed. Mr. McColeman, Mr. Preston and Mr. Holder were Conservative candidates in 2008, when their party platform included a promise to pursue a continental cap-and-trade system. They were duly elected Conservative MPs when the Harper government included that promise in its Throne Speech ------------------------------ I used to laugh at American Political Rhetorhic and wondered why they lied so much and twisted the truth and fabricated pure BS. Seems this style has been creeping into the Conservative Communications. No wonder they have a difficult time in the US sorting fact from fiction.
