  1. I've recycled as long as i can remember,it's something that became such a habit that if i don't, i feel slothful. I used to compost but that was just messy and a pain in the butt. I buy energy efficent appliances and the new light bulbs. I cycle alot and when i need to drive i belong to a local car share company. Also i buy recycled products. Doing so makes me feel virtuous but whether i have any effect on the enviroment, i don't really know.
  2. There seems to be little doubt that climate change is real, i mean on a earth wide scale it is hard to believe that climate is static, we wouldn't need weather forecasts if it were not. The belief that humans have an impact on climate,to me at least is arrogant despite what Gorsuki tells us.
  3. This is not a christian theology forum.Why do invite scorn by posting such questions,you know most people are going to mock you. This is ,in case you haven't noticed a political forum.
  4. Life is too short to waste on 'making' money. (What an English expression - make money.)I make money in my basement,does that count?:}
  5. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Party_of_Canada Judging from the incremental increases in voting for the party election to election, i can't see it translating into a seat for her or any other Green,even with the chicken little voters scared into their camp from the warming climate kerfluffle. Green+ Gorsuki = 1-2% increase in popular vote= NO SEATS
  6. Thanks for making me feel old, alot of that happening lately{:
  7. I'm afraid to expect any kind of intelligent theological discussion on this board is expecting too much,judging from the content of this forum. It would be interesting to see what the make up of religion beliefs we have here. I would like to post a poll ,but am i allowed to here?
  8. Do not we base our laws on agreed upon morals. Marilyn Vos Savant was once asked what was the difference between illegal and immoral and she replied ,Illegal covers the daylight hours and immoral covers the night,. Does ILLEGAL= IMMORAL? ,IF so Morals are tied to laws,you can't have one without the other.
  9. WTF?how we've got a federal bureaucracy that can't even fulfill its simplist mandate: count people in the country. Instead, it can provide complex data with complex analyses for complex questions that no one ever asked. Aren't you being a bit hard on them? Perfection is hard to come by. Two questions 1},what does the fertility rate need to be to maintain our population as it now stands? 2]What is the average response rate for other census being taken in other western nations and how do we compare with them?
  10. It's a strange and disturbing world you live in, assuming that even a part of what you say is true, how do cope,knowing that the world is comprised of secret cabals and world wide threats that threaten to control and or destroy our way of life or even our existence ? If this is true ,HOW DO YOU DO IT?
  11. This self-esteem movement may have had good intentions as far as making children feel special, but to me the logical extension of that philosophy is that we are all equal or better then our peers, and are entitled to certain privileges. We're not. A dunce repeatedly being told that he is as smart as a scholar does a disservice to both the scholar and the dunce. In the dunces' case the sooner he realizes he is not as smart as he thinks he is the sooner he can try and find something else to do. In the scholars' case,he is free to learn without being held back out of fear of damaging the dunces self-esteem. The realization that you are not as smart as you thought you were can be equal parts freeing and disturbing.Trust me on That! I realize the potential irony in that statement but there are other qualities that should be instilled such as persistence,compassion, a willingness to take responsibilty for your actions, among others.
  12. http://video.sympatico.msn.com/v/en-ca/v.h...d1d&f=37&fg=rss What do you think of this? I tend to agree with the various veterans groups that the tomb of the unknown soldier should be left unadorned as it represents all soldiers that gave their lives. The Victoria Cross is given for Valor to an individuals actions, giving it to someone unknown would somehow cheapen it. I wonder why Veteran Affairs didn't ask The Royal Canadian Legion and others representing Veterans their opinion or even a heads up?
  13. On the plus side,this experience might put them off smoking altogether:}
  14. Finally something i fully agree with you on ;}
  15. http://www.babylon.com/. This is my opinion a better translating tool as well as a dictionary.
  16. It is time Canada stopped worrying about how the rest of the world perceives us and stop basing our actions on the world stage on what might happen if we're not in lockstep with the majority. The most popular course of action is not always the right one. A person who is concerned mainly with pleasing everyone doesn't please anyone. The only thing that should concern a government is the best interests of it's own people.
  17. Well Said.-The Truth Hurts. I personally hope the Liberals keep him as Leader,it just makes Harpers job easier and the possibility of a MAJORITY Government more likely. That should make a few people heads explode in sheer frustration
  18. I disagree with your opening statement,racism is practically ubiquitous. Hate is a human trait that stands the test of time. You can say whatever you want in private life, but as soon as you broadcast it in a public forum you are history,rightly so. As for why,three words,''White Liberal Guilt''
  19. Religion is a set of beliefs,what a person believes and how they are willing to take responsibility for their actions based on those beliefs says more about the person rather then the religion.
  20. I would also like to see a reversal of a convicts' right to vote
  21. Yes, and he has so much to arrogant about, doesn't he? the little s@#t. If anybody wonders why the latest polls has him and the Lberals falling behind, look no further. I know polls are fickle and at times unreliable depending on the wording of the questions, but if Dion doesn't stop shootin himself in the foot those numbers are going to get worse
  22. Sorry to be blindingly obvious, but this is politics,by it's very nature it is patently absurd to expect decorum and politeness. The schoolyard yelling and namecalling,i for one really don't see a problem with that. Good solid entertainment, who can forget ''Pass The tequila,sheila,lie down and love me again''. I miss Trudeau and his eloquent insults, too bad there is nothing like that nowadays. A well placed insult ,well there's something in the political correctness of the time that is very rare to see or hear.
  23. Is this true? I don't speak French, but I was under the impression the Stephen Harpers French was very good. As for Dion, I watched him ask a question, and his timing in English was completely off. It was a long question and by the time he was done, I couldn't figure out just what he was trying to point out. Then Stephen Harper gave a textbook answer. But I have to wonder, if you can't ask the question well in English, and it is important, then say it in French. So,neither Leader speaks the others official language too well,the question is, are the French more forgiving of Harpers French or the English more forgiving of Dions' English?,or is this just a tempest in a teapot?
  24. Well, alcohol prohibition is a reasonable parallel case study. What happened after prohibition ended was the government made a lot of money from selling alcohol, and organized crime lost a major source of revenue. Why did your scenario not play out so that bootleggers are competing with the government? Probably because your theory is like me--half-baked. Weed is so much cheaper and easier to produce though. Making home brew is a big pain in the ass. It's also way easier to regulate alcohol production. Also EVERYBODY drinks now, and there are lots of people with drinking problems, why run the risk of something else. Not to hijack the thread, but i just can't believe how easy it is for me to buy drugs where i work, in a workplace of 40 employees i can buy drugs from no less than 5 people, and i work in an area that by any standards is a low crime area. I guess reality is just to much for some people,if i want to escape it,i'll read a book.
  25. If the Liberals know what is best for them. The Liberals only know what's best for you.;}
