Thank you , but excuse me if i'm going to exercise a certain modicum of skepticism every time an apocalyptic scientific scenario is breathlessly delivered as the next big thing. It is hardly going to go to the top of my worry list Bzzzzz...indeed

Why Doesn't the US Respect Canada More?
leonardcohen replied to jbg's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Where did you get the idea that Canadians are not proud of Vimy Ridge and Juno Beach? Is this the joke question of the year? Only 36% can identify any type of association with Vimy Ridge. In Quebec they faired much worse. http://www.ipsos-na.com/news/pressrelease.cfm?id=1474 Juno Beach failed the popularity test also. "Sadly, today, not a lot of young Canadians remember or even know what Juno Beach is. Perhaps only their grandfathers and grandmothers would know how important Canada’s role was in World War II. It is important for all of us to remember, especially now. By looking at Juno Beach as an example, we can remember how hard we Canadians tried to fight for and restore peace in our world." http://www.histori.ca/fairs/studentProject...omcat1?id=16009 Canada really does not have any war in which it fought to protect the actually country, to claim some sort of identity. The closest Canada could have came to this one IMV, was participating in the Iraq war which Canada declined. Both countries experienced loss of its citizens relating to '999' terrorist attack. Canada participating in Afghanistan is a noble effort, but is not on the same level as the direct '999' attack had on America, affecting both Americans and Canadians pertaining to loss of life. No Joke, I did however make the erroneous assumption that most Canadians were as aware of these battles and their subsequent effect on the Canadian psyche as i am. That effect has lessened so much in the intervening generations, I wonder whether our educators really give a damn about giving their students a sense of their past,...my mistake -
Has Any one alerted Gorzuki yet? { insert sarcasm here!}

Why the rise of Anti-Semitism in Quebec?
leonardcohen replied to jdobbin's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
You know the first thing that came to mind, that it was some pur laine separatists were trying in their own pathetic way to foment some unrest and thus drive the ''ethnics'' out of the province, but i immediately rescinded that thought, because everyone knows that french-separatists can't be racists-that is the unspoken truth-n'est pas? -

This is the point I was responding to, and I don't think I missed it at all. You want to engender guilt in those of us who aren't soldiers, and I refuse to be a part of that. It is self aggrandizing to say that those of use who aren't soldiers are standing back; all of us play a part, overt or subtle. It leads to the question - how much respect do you have for the average Canadian citizen, who is going about the business of being free? Yes you are right - you are always right and I of course, am always wrong. Sorry to have intruded into your world. Borg http://www.ottawasun.com/News/National/200...887582-sun.htmlI'm not sure whether this is appropiate to put this in, but i thought it would be reminded of the price that soldiers pay to do their job..

I've heard a quote that essentially said that lotteries and casinos are a tax on the stupid and gullible. I think that applies here.

The final document will be the product of a United Nations network of 2,000 scientists as authors and reviewers, along with representatives of more than 120 governments as last-minute editors. It will be the second volume of a four-volume authoritative assessment of Earth's climate being released this year. The last such effort was in 2001. I have a deep distrust of any report that emanates from the U.N. I am not impressed by the numbers, the original report would be interesting to see, and i'll draw my own conclusions, thank you. There is no telling how many times and in what ways the first draft has been changed to suit their foregone conclusions.

Dion thinks there maybe a MAY election
leonardcohen replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
1]Yes , but the ads are significantly LESS negative then the ones used against them in the last couple of elections, all he is doing is using their own words against them, not the outright lies and innuendo the Liberals resorted to ,NOW That was desperation! 2]What would you have him do with a larger tax base and economy,? he is giving our money back to us,the taxpayers, isn't that what is he supposed to do with it? 3]This is a double negative, you're actually saying it is, on that point i agree with you:} -
Attention American forum members
leonardcohen replied to Montgomery Burns's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Fear of change. If you say the words "private health care" in Canada, your setting yourself up to fail in an election. People desperately cling to the sinking ship. Can You say Sacred Cow? The existence of private clinics coupled with the denial of the government to acknowledge that, because of this, a two tier system already exists, is unbelievable. What is it about us that we can't see that such a system, existing side by side does not invalidate the current system but actually enhances it,imho, is something i don't think i'll ever understand Is there any country in the world that has such a conundrum in regards to their health system? -
Well, lets bring 'em on. And fix the rest of our justice system while we are at it. What do the police think about these guys? http://www.cbc.ca/news/story/2006/07/07/guardianangels.html Apparently ,the police here in Ottawa are cool to the idea, can't say i blame them , all we need is something going wrong, and the city could be on the hook for a lawsuit or 2.

Danny Williams Goes Nation-wide
leonardcohen replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Two seats...? Don't they hold... well, seven? Not like you to undershoot that badly, Charles. Five are theirs by population, two by special clause. I just checked on my home province of P.E.I., and was a little bit surprised to discover that we have 4 seats,it was a condition of joining Confederation, so based on a population of around 130,000 we're probably the best represented ridings in the Country http://www.cbc.ca/pei/features/tory-drought/clues.html Newfoundland needs more mp's -

OPP Investigating Federal Tories
leonardcohen replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I've being following the issue through the local media, and i get the sense that this investigation, however long it takes,is going to be a cloud over Mayor O'Brien. It will taint pretty well every decision he makes, because if there is any validity to the accusations, and i don't for a moment believe there is, it is a greater revenge for Terry Kilrea for not winning or even mounting much of a campaign, then any mistake O'Brien could have made. Sour Grapes indeed! P.S.-Apparently ,since there are few candidates for the Parole Board, i wonder if i can apply? -
Try to understand that there's none. Or, if there was real serious intent to not have them killed, there wouldn't be so many killed already - as direct result of their actions. If you can not see between the difference in people hating you so much that they're willing to throw away the most precious of their legacies, their own children to kill you, the enemy, and run away like a coward themselves, and accidently killing the enemy because they hide behind civilians, then yes, i concede the point, because there is really no point arguing with someone who can not or will not see that.
-
The point is,we're not trying to kill children, in both cases the children die, but there is a world of difference between accidently killing someone and deliberately killing someone. Try to understand that.

What does it mean to be Canadian?

Okay-Here Goes 1- Quebec will undergo a resurgence of fervent Franco nationalism, sparked by Ottawa's refusal to kowtow to pay one cent more in equalization payments amid the Quebec PQ Governments' refusal to acknowledge that, because of the discovery and development of huge gold and silver deposits which has elevated them to a have province and not a have not. 2- Canada will be ruled by the Conservative Government but not by Stephen Harper, halfway through his second majority term he will be assassinated by a renegade Indian military group. 3- The new Prime Minister will be a former military General who will be catapulted into power after the inability among the government to find a strong leader among their own. 4-Canada, will because of a new Military Leader, infuses massive cash into new equipment, training and reintegrates the armed forces into one fighting force. 5- Canada will pull out of all peacekeeping missions, having decided by referendum that it no longer serves any purpose keeping our soldiers abroad anymore as they are more needed in Canada putting down the homemade rebellions in the west and Quebec...and possibly elsewhere 6-President McCain and his Vice President -Hilliary Clinton-enough said 7-The worlds' supply of oil in the middle east is starting to run low and forces The U.S. to start looking elsewhere for their oil ....cast their eyes northward and to Japan who, unexpectedly, discovery potential oil deposits rivaling anything discovered in the Middle East 8- See 5 9-The U.S. and Europe pull their forces out of Middle east, emboldens Iran and Syria to attack Isreal, forcing them to use nuclear force- WW3 starts with a nuclear strike on Teheran 10-Ottawa Senators win Stanley Cup,Maple Leafs watch from sidelines and cry

This is a very good read, but the global warming apologists are very good at ignoring any kind of data that doesn't support their conclusions,so this report will probably just be added to the pile of wood Gorsuki will use to burn their detractors at the stake. The way that dissent is not allowed reminds me of the salem witch trails, all you had to do to deflect criticism was to yell Witch, and the mobs' attention would be turned away. This is science? Time will turn the tide ,eventually, but not before billions of dollars are wasted and governments will be made to look like fools for believing this claptrap.
