  1. In a flagrant attack on freedom of the press, the Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC) has filed three human rights complaints against Maclean's magazine and its editor-in-chief, Kenneth Whyte, accusing them of spreading "hatred and contempt" for Muslims, by publishing an article by Mark Steyn on Oct. 23, 2006, entitled The Future Belongs to Islam. For full article see: http://lfpress.ca/newsstand/News/Columnist...714142-sun.html In my opinion, the Canadian Human Rights courts should be abolished. They operate in such a way as to deny justice by any criteria that any rational person could defend. Any miscreant can file a complaint and place a defendant at huge personal risk and costs to defend himself or herself in a process that has scant resemblance to any normal process of justice and at the mercy of the personal whims of judges with agendas but minimal understand of or appreciation for the rules of law. Edited to fix the link
  2. This is getting to be spam - same old same old... cheers
  3. Oooohh, those damn people, they have no right defending themselves, no sireee, they should just sit back and take it...
  4. Shouldn't that one be in the conspiracy thread..
  5. Not necessarily, they could be hiring based strictly on merit and qualitifications, and if so is that wrong?
  6. Noam Chomsky - wouldn't get involved with anything that has his name on it... bodies - my foot...
  7. Me too, I really don't like the commercialism in fact, we don't exchange gifts anymore, actually we don't do anything other than a family get together. (before we go south - ) It's Called Christmas turn your volume up...it's cute and upbeat
  8. This is within a public school, not a private. Isn't this the same idea as put forward by John Tory. I'm amazed that this would happen in a public school system. http://abcnews.go.com/WN/story?id=3558134 The biggest school system in the United States began the new school year today by opening its doors to controversy, as New York City introduced the first public Arabic school in the nation. It was, to put it mildly, an unusual first day of school for the 60 students at the Khalil Gibran International Academy, where students arrived to see press and police outside the new school, as those who oppose the school fear it will spread radical Islam. "When I came down the corner and saw the mobile police unit and the news cameras swirling around, then I was very nervous," said Susan O'Grady, a parent of a student at the school.
  9. IMO we do have a high romantisised image of natives, they are not the keepers of the land etc. we make them out to be. These days our political/culture system allows a small band of anarchists to overthrow common sense and define peoples rights, identity, lands and entitlements based on collective groups or racially-based concepts and will always end in division and anger. I have a fundamental disagreement with building a society in which rights, responsibilities and opportunity are defined by a person's racial ancestry. Land claims based on an assumption of guilt are another denial of reality. The goal must be integration, not separation and tribalism, racially discriminatory practices within a sovereign state is wrong.
  10. The crime bill is necessary, and will only affect serious crimes why should we allow a gun toting gang member to go back on the street, bail should be harder to get for these types of crimes. Too bad that partisan politics ensures that some think more along party lines and opposing anything the CPC puts forward, than the good of the country.
  11. Good post, I agree, it doesn't matter how many times he's cleared, people will not believe it. Maybe it was his money, his Gucci shoes or his success, heck he was well thought of abroad, he was an ally of Nelson Mandela, an early supporter of Ethiopian famine victims and at home he negotiated landmark treaties on acid rain and free trade. Maybe it was the GST that did it, but the Liberals lived to reap the benefits of that. Heck he had the best economic record in the last half (or more century) he was awarded the Health Research Foundation's medal of honour in recognition of a significant contribution to health sciences. Maybe he's hated because he put the brakes on Trudeau's runaway spending, but it doesn't matter... he could be cleared from here to kingdom come and people won't believe it.
  12. He did? He actually handed the responsibility over the Municipal gov't with Local Housing Corporation (LHC) being responsible for it.
  13. True, otherwise the opposition doesn't have much else to go on about. Funny though, Bob Rae doesn't want an "archeological dig", he wants it to get on with it quickly - some Liberals must be getting nervous... - ( not that I think Bob Rae has anything to hide in this)
  14. The tories gave other tax cuts, and besides that's not the whole story/ http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Columnists/Cor...362740-sun.html Taxes/tax revenues under the liberals since 1993 went up, our net pay went down.... How do we define poverty, there is no official, government-mandated poverty line, if someone's basic needs are met, are they poor or just need more to have a better standard of living than they can earn, or deserve. People on welfare pay no taxes, so do we just up their monthly amount with no expectations that they earn it or try to improve themselves? Again, the key to improving one's standard of living is in acquiring skills, and I don't mean teaching people how to do a resume and a job search.
  15. Define poverty - and didn't the Liberals raise the dollar amount that defined poverty thus decreasing the numbers over night LOL What they need to do is lower taxes and provide training, the best way to get people off welfare is give them the skills to work. I'd like to see more trade schools and apprenticeship programs.
  16. I don't know what you about Hollywood machinery having a grip on them... can you elaborate a bit.
  17. I disagree, at this stage the Liberals can't win a majority, even by spring - I'd bet on another CPC minority, maybe a little bigger than the current one. Dion is rationalizing they are waiting for better times but it's a huge climb ahead of them. He is sleeping with the enemy who will pounce any time as they hack away at Liberal credibility
  18. Exactly - more equality of cultures in Canada's big mosaic -
  19. Cultures are all equal right, just another piece in the mosaic
  20. Air Canada had a computer glitch for a few hours, their booking system was down resulting in a back log and huge lineup. It only affected AC, but the same thing could happen to a train system as they run on computers too.
  21. That's Joe Hueglin's party isn't it, always thought he and his members were closet liberals, is David orchard part of that too, cos we knew he was no conservative ever. The Liberals gained a few new members, not sitting MPs....-
  22. I've no idea if GM has been fighting it, but it is a good idea, but not all that feasible in Canada. GM makes locomotives in London, so I would think they would get into building newer types of rail transport too.
  23. Well, there's an educated post LOL Stephen Harper: "But, Mr. Speaker, Canadians understand that the events in question occurred between 10 and 20 years ago, and these are rather pathetic attempts by the opposition to link them to this government" G & M Page A4
  24. That part is probably true. The rest of that nonsense, who cares, it's irrelevant - but hey - if it makes you happy churning this stuff out - go for it... we need a chortle now and then.
  25. That anyone would actually believe 'the capitalists' are organized and can create natural disasters is mind boggling. This is on a par with Bush/Cheny's 'hurricane machine' in the White House basement LOL To me, this nothing but sour grapes from people who don't like to see someone making more than they do - we should all be equally poor doncha know.
