Toronto - Is Our Fiscal House In Order ?
scribblet replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Ford will do what he can but he does have only one vote. Reading this one would think that Liberals just never lie or make campaign promises they can't keep Thought I'd post this because it is funny http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2010/10/26/kelly-mcparland-latte-futures-plummet-as-toronto-contemplates-ford-mayoralty/ excerpt: -
CRTC holds hearings on rural broadband
scribblet replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In that case I can expect broadband up north at the cottage very soon, I hope. -
I had heard of no go zones many times, if you read more about European issues you'll see more of it. The original video might be satire but it does speak to a real issue which is embodied in the unsubstantiated allegations and smears made by Glenn Murray Lib. MP.

Speaking about the original post, Glenn Murray Lib. MP is a poster boy for the argument in the original OP as he has made unsubstantiated allegations of bigotry and possible libelous statements. http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2010/10/28/national-post-editorial-board-whos-the-real-bigot/ http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Front_Page/JB12Aa02.html http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/10/nyregion/10gellerb.html?pagewanted=3 There are hundreds of references to no go zones in Europe but don't forget that a big issue is that the media usually doesn't like to report on these things and often white wash such issues. They can't all be making it up http://www.economist.com/blogs/newsbook/2010/09/swedens_general_election http://vladtepesblog.com/?p=13161 Interview with firefighters in Sweden’s ‘no go zones

CRTC holds hearings on rural broadband

What tax breaks? I live in a rural area where property taxes are almost double those in Toronto for the equivalent assessed value. -
CRTC holds hearings on rural broadband

Will the Prime Minister have to get involved? -
No go zones are not a myth, just google it... you'll have to start another thread

Should broadband internet service be a 'fundamental right' - sheez, we don't need the CRTC medddling into this. Should taxpayers have to help fund service to rural areas and should this include cell phone service. Okay, I'm not clear on why there are dead zones, probably because there are no towers, but really - a 'fundamental right' I have a relative who lives about 15 mins. outside of Marmora, Ontario, he has no cell phone service, broad band or even regular phone service, therefore no dialup either. He has to pony up for satellite phone and internet because of his business. We are talking about 2.5 hours north east of Toronto where there is zip all - but really - a fundamental right to have broadband ? Heck there isn't even a decent library, should that be a 'right, maybe a Tim Hortons should be a fundamental right too - CRTC holds hearings on rural broadband http://www.cbc.ca/technology/story/2010/10/27/crtc-riural-broadband.html cont....

Well, look at this, Canada has gone up two spots in the transparency rankings, another reason to be proud... Last year we ranked second in the Best Country Brand index, getting top ranking for the ‘Best Place to Live’ , ‘Safety’, ‘Family Friendly’,'Tourism’ and ‘Political Freedom’ areas. http://www.transparency.org/policy_research/surveys_indices/cpi/2010/results

This is funny, also note the comments about Heather M. http://www.nationalpost.com/todays-paper/dark+Toronto+Star/3732257/story.html#ixzz13bBjB0N9 Having decided that personal attacks were fair game, the Star unloaded columnist Heather Mallick on Ford. Here's what she had to say:

The article said: (that would be Afghanastan)While I hate to see billions of aid go to corrupt regimes and generally into the local despot's pocket, we don't have much of an alternative, can we stop all foreign aid except in emergencies e.g. Haiti ? I do agree we need far more accountability and transparency in where the money is spent, and more strings attached. Worst despots - I'd like to see a dollar amount from each country next to the name. I'm not sure about Mugabe, it may be that he only gets international food aid now and or funds from the U.N. http://www.afrik-news.com/article17839.htmlA United States based think tank, Foreign

It talks about France stunned by rioter's savagery, I did mean to post the link shady provided as well http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/429 http://www.brusselsjournal.com/node/2584 the other link may not be an 'authority' but it, along with many others from Europe tells about the no go areas etc. N.A. doesn't have the same demographics or problems as Europe. You might want to read about what is happening in Europe - however this is off topic, but then, pretty well most topics on here end up going way off on tangents.

I love how you make things up - classic Lieberals.

There are quite a few pieces on them, D. Pipes thinks it's just a euphemistic term - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/europe/article2983714.ece http://www.geographictravels.com/2006/11/no-go-areas-of-france-and-rest-of.html

I watched a good part of it and found it pretty much apropros - You know how it goes - definition of a racist: someone on the winning end of an argument with a liberal. There are no go zones in France, they are called Zones Urbaines Sensibles or Dar al-Islam, they have them in London England and elsewhere in Europe.

Toronto Municipal Elections 2010
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Council has changed, Bussin has gone there's new blood, it won't be all bad. One thing they won't go along with for sure is cutting the number of councillors. LOL -
It's a Liberal controversy, not a Ford controversy, there's nothing to lay on Ford here. Nice to see you guys have nothing intelligent to say, only asinine comments and smear tactics. Keepitsimple is correct, Ford has done a lot of work for a diverse number of people who voted for Ford because they cared and so did he. A Sikh chap in his ward called about water pressure problems, Ford went there personally to look into it, guess who voted for Ford along with many other people he's helped. I bet there won't be any extended garbage strikes during his term either.

Amazing isn't it !! He'll get a much earlier parole in Canada.

Toronto Municipal Elections 2010
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Well, the fat articles weren't particularly impressive, but now he's won, they are hoping for a heart attack... What will the Toronto Star do now. http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n148/User91_2006/for%20forums/seriously.jpg The mayor doesn't have all that much power, he's only one vote, but Sandra Bussin going down will help him. What will Smitherman do now, wait for Federal seat to open up? -

Can you deduct donations to NPR ? -
It could be for many seniors because of the pension splitting, we saved over $2,500,it would be nice if all families could income split. There was also a new $1,000. employment tax credit and a drop in the tax rate...
